About Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator:

It is great to both see a good simulator and give attention to this story. Poor lads, lied to, given only the option to enter the disaster zone with no idea of the consequences or go to war. Those who survived the extreme conditions lived with health issues related to radiation, and died horribly. I hope this gives people a reason to study similar stories and pay respects to the unsung heroes of the nuclear era.

I recently watched the HBO series. Already had some ideas of how bad it was. So seeing all the lies, the poor decisions, and the consequences made me want to scream, cry and fight everyone at the same time

@@themanformerlyknownascomme777 The government lied to the reactor operators that there may be issues with they type of reactor they had based on other similar reactors having incidents They lied to the liquidators about how dangerous the work they were doing was cleaning up the wreckage. They lied to the world about the severity of the disaster, how much radiation was initially released and why it had exploded. Lying and withholding the truth was one of the USSRs biggest method of maintaining control of the population and their appearance of power to the world.

They weren’t lied to, the firemen were told everything the people at the plant at that time knew, and many of the firemen survived that night with no significant health defects we know that 85 firemen responded to the incident in 19 different vehicles, of this 28 died from ARS in the following weeks and months. We know of an additional 7 who died from radiation related illness bringing the total death toll from specifically radiation to 35.

Hey @Drae, I could be wrong, but I think that the blue bar under the health bar is your stamina bar. I noticed that every time you broke open a door or pushed over a concrete pillar, the blue bar dipped down. However, I can see why you said that it was a radioactivity meter because I also saw it dip down when you were in a radioactive area. If I am right about the blue bar being the stamina bar, based off of what I saw, it also means that any radioactive material or are will affect your stamina.

Yes, and then follow it up with “The Russian Woodpecker”, which is a film by a rather strange guy who experienced the ordeal first hand, as a child. His version of what and why goes against the official narrative.

@@Hick25 , yes. It was part of Russia’s early warning missile defense system. It pelted the west coast of the US, and everything else in its path, with a steady 10 Hz shortwave signal that was so powerful that it came across tv stations, radio stations as well as commercial and amateur radio traffic. There are even reports of people with mercury amalgam fillings picking up the signal in their mouth and it almost driving them insane. The system is called “Duga”, with translates to “curve” or “arc”. There are audio recordings of the incessant tapping sound that the array emitted on RU-vid. Give one a listen and you’ll understand how it came to be nicknamed the Russian Woodpecker.

It looks like that the video effect in 4:07 seems to be radiation. If you look at Chernobyl films, some of the films have similar effects. That is radiation.

The liquidators were the guys who came in after the firefighters to clean up all the radioactive graphite after all the fires had been put out. They were given like shovels to shovel all the graphite back into the core area to keep the radiation contained. They weren’t the firefighters who fought the fires.

Hey Drae, just so you know, the stuff you said was Uranium is actually blocks of graphite* that were used as neutron killers, the reason they glow so bright is because the air around them is being ionized because of how much radiation they are emitting. so that's a fun fact, also this is probably the most accurate game about Chernobyl there is.

The 3.6 on the counter was the max that counter could detect. We know now that it was substantially higher but in that moment they thought that's what it was. So they thought at first they were safe. That's what that room was trying to represent.

15:41 Why is the writing on the counter in polish, though? Surely, it'd be in ukrainian or russian. Edit: After some searching, I've found the funniest thing about that: the fact that they've not used a polish model, but an acurate ukrainian one, just with translated labels, so they've either wasted time searching for a model with translated labels, or wasted time translating the labels themselves, and considering I couldn't find anything about liquidators from Poland, that is even more puzzling than I initially thought.

A lot of the simulators are published by a company called playway and the other simulators like power wash simulator was published by Square Enix for some reason. However I think I remember a demo of the game on Itch.io

I don't know fire fighting procedures, but I think there is something along the lines like giving as little oxygen as possible to the fire so closing the doors seems useful. Closing them to prevent radiations leaks seems legit too. These firefighters were true heroes.

Little history fact.. the urss at the time gave the choice to soldier between 2years in army or 2minutes to chernobyl for there contract, most of the people who took the 2minutes died or became sick for the rest of there life

@@digitalgaming251 no its actually 2minutes but it was 2minutes at the nuclear plant cleaning debris and in the making of the dome. The radiation level was so high there that it was enough

The 2 minutes comes from the fact that the entire area directly around reactor 4 was littered with graphite and other materials that made up the inside of the core of the reactor. They were so radioactive you would receive a lift times of radiation within that 2 minutes and seconds longer would start to cause radiation sickness. If you ever watch the HBO show about it you'll see one of the initial fire fighters pick up a piece of graphite with his hand and withing minutes his hand starts to go blister and go necrotic from the insane amounts of radiation it absorbed.

Incorrect. The walking ghost phase doesn't happen until a few days after exposure when the patient appears better. The stage the character is in currently is called the prodromal stage and won't reach the walking ghost phase for another few days.

The walking ghost phase is not happening so early. If you saw the series. It was shown when the firemen was at the hospital and seemed fine. They seemed healthy and was recovering BUT became way worse shortly after those signs.

The big blue rocks isn’t uranium it’s actually radioactive graphite from the reactor core when it exploded it through the graphite all around the area and on the roofs. When the fire fighters would pick up the graphics it was hot and radioactive that it burnt there skin and sadly died with in hours or a few days of them touching it.

Todays nuclear plants are MUCH safer then the reactors the soviets used back then, the reactor was very old and had failed its tests 4 times each year, they should've shutdown the plants and rebuilt them but the soviets didnt want to own up to mistakes so they kept it secret.

That computer room was the SKALA automated computer system, it would look at core parameters and give suggestions to the operators on how to keep things running smoothly as well as alert the operators when the core should be put into a SCRAM for emergency shutdown.

Your character is a bit more than just a first responder, you are part of the mobile unit, so you have to go in and save the people that are inside, meaning your job is one of the more dangerous of them if not the most dangerous one

Im sure now if that kind of thing happens again which is unlikely anyone who was working there and is not accounted for prop will be considered dead. Because like with how bad it was so many people died just working on it and the mess is still there its just been cleaned a lot the fuel part is still there and is still very much lethal.

The Soviet Unions official stance was a nuclear disaster wasnt possible under Soviet power……so for the first 36 hours it was acted like it was just a really bad fire, school ran the next day, A May Day parade somewhere in the exclusion zone was held( within a month of the disaster) . They basically was so fixated on humiliation from the world they tried to sweep it under the rug

Pripyat ( which was the closed town to serve for people who were working at the power plant) has been on my bucket list for a long time to visit. I know that have been trying to fix ( Incase) the reactor for years now. I know they kinda let people come back in there but still has a radiation. That town is frozen in time. They were promised that they could come back to get their stuff or come back in general. It is sad that they left that way but they had to.

I wish they didn't make it glow idk if that's for objective purposes or they wanted to make it look radioactive but not all radioactive things have a "glow" to them. The air was ionized and was glowing blue but the graphite only was glowing slight red because it was hot.

Drae, you should watch Chernobyl 2019 HBO drama series. It's as epic as this game. It's very good if you like history and thrillers.

I recommend that you watch the Chernobyl TV show Drea. It gives you a detailed explanation to the accident, from time of destination to the court hearing for the people responsible for it.

And to add some info, those blue shinning blocks are actually graphite from the reactor core that act as a neutron flux moderator. Essentially the material to control the nuclear reaction in the reactor.

This made me look up how radiation makes you die, it basically damages bone marrow, blood cells, intestines and since the immune system gets all messed up, a person either dies from another infection or internal bleeding.

People will basically melt as the body decays. Cells get damaged enough that they can’t reproduce, so in a couple days the skin will begin to simply fall off as no new cells are made. The same things happen to muscles, organs, ect. It gets to the point where the individual can’t even be given pain medication because the blood vessels are all falling apart.
