Narrowband astrophotography is a great way of taking pictures of nebulae, even from very light polluted areas. There is however a common misconception concerning narrowband filters, especially the narrower bandpasses. You have less sky glow shot noise to swamp the read noise with tighter bandpasses, but you that doesn't necessarily force you to expose longer! There is one potential exception: if the bandpass being narrower cuts of a significant secondary source of signal from the target objects (e.g. 3nm bandpass cutting off NII from an NII-rich target vs 5nm filters which keep the NII)
