Man was just reflecting era 2012/2013 or so when one of your earlier a10c videos convinced me to try DCS. Now all those years later I'm thousands deep with modules and peripherals. Thanks
Even though the T model is more capable of doing ground attack, I favor the old A model. She just looks better without that Shkval nose and the bulky back behind the pilot. Besides, it is satisfying going in with a sh*tload of S-8 rockets or manually laser aim the most beautiful missile ever created on earth, the Kh-25. Those smoke trails make me giggle everytime.... Nice vid ralfi, the third part gives such a great soviet-afghan vibe
That would be amazing! I reckon something like how Aerges is doing the Mirage F1. An old analog Su-25A as well as one of those Israeli-modified glass cockpit Su-25s both included in one module. That would be so damn cool.
@@gordslater You can't really adjust specific details like that in this particular aircraft. It's meant to be easier to use than the full-fidelity ones, so you don't have to worry about stuff like setting up radios
Cool vid with a retro vibe to it and relaxed action for the most of the time... It's good when there's no enemy CAP, but we all know by now that even the Froggy can hold on it's own. Nice job, man! 👍🏻
@@ralfidude Always a pleasure, man. I've yet to find a video of yours that I wouldn't like. Keep on doing the great job - as long as it's fun for you, of course!
I really enjoyed flying missions on this thing, there is something really satisfying in getting the job done in them, and they fly pretty fast once you dumped all of your ordnance on the enemies, i would love to have a full DCS level module of it. That pair flight was really nice to see at 9:20.
The Frogfoot: single-engine ground attack plane that always carries a spare engine. (Never know when you’re going to need that.) Now, just figure out how to carry a spare tail.
It's "smoke grenades" launched by the attacked unit. Armored(tanks...) units in DCS can launch smoke grenades if they are attacked but not killed to "cover" their position. It's an old effect and not quite nice to look at in 2021 but it is what it is until it gets overhauled.
Without knowing your level of experience with the Su-25, the S-8 rockets carry blast/frag warheads which is probably why they were ineffective against armoured vehicles. The S-25L rockets are effective because they have massive warheads (150 - 450Kg depending on version). The S-8's are only really effective against troops in the open & unarmoured vehicles.
Despite being HE-FRAG, the OFP-2 are the better rockets than the KOM. OFP has enough explosive to kill BTRs and SPAA like the Shilka or SA-19, and they don't require direct hits to kill unarmored trucks or AA emplacements unlike the KOM. Also like someone said it's better to just salvo off the entire pod in one run, due to the inherent low hit probability of rockets in general.
Back to basics. I like it! P.S. Also, too few rockets in each salvo, compared to real live usage (on TV). I guess it's because you don't want to RTB after only a few passes? They are really not a precise weapon system, but rather "statistical", that's why there are so many of them on each pod/launcher. It's no criticism in any way, just my thoughts aloud.
4:23 if I'm not mistaken the SPO-15 RWR has a limited elevation angle (according to the manual it is +/- 30 deg.). So I think it is possible that during evasive manouvers (especially at heavy banking angles) the RWR goes silent.
Exactly. You'll notice that when getting spiked from 9 or 3 o'clock. As soon as you turn into the source with more than 30° of bank, the thing goes silent.
@@ralfidude BTW thanks for the upload, after watching your vid I've went for a few rounds of target practice with the 25A and I found it quite fun! (My choice of froggy is the T version usually.)
10:44 Always feels good to find yourself head to head with a SAM at short range 😳... ... in fact, immediately following that encounter I thought you again were a goner given all the debris as you flew past the SAM site explosion.
God damn! That voice mod adds an unreal amount of immersion. Amazing! Is it something you do on your end to change their voices, or are they doing it on their end themselves? I wouldn't mind using this myself. I use Discord for voice comms but I only play IL-2 Great Battles at the moment. I want to get into DCS. I was thinking of just getting a multi role module to start. F-16 or F-18 maybe. Definitely a Westen aircraft. Great video!
It's a radio app that we use alongside of DCS in which you tune to frequencies and the radio transmissions are simulated with the radio effects and such. Very much like Task Force Radio for ARMA.
I've found that the S-8OFP2 rockets are quite good against soft-skinned targets like trucks and infantry. Not so much against anything armored. The S-8KOM is pretty much worthless, since they have no splash worth anything.
Try using the rudder pedals when you turn. Coordinated turns will make it easier to line up the target when you come out of the turn. Keep practicing, keep the bubble centered, and you'll soon be maneuvering like a pro!
I know you're just trying to help, but for someone who flies IRL and has flown virtually in DCS for over 10 years, I really couldn't care less. You tend to forget which systems have SAS and don't need rudder, but again, I really don't care.
"These rockets suck" Nah, DCS' damage model for ground targets is just absolutely horrible, and probably won't be fixed any time soon (my guess? at least 2023)
That was an Armored APC capable of standing up to 14.5mm AP and you are tossing 80mm rockets with tiny warheads at it...outside of a direct hit, what exactly do you expect they should do to it? If you asked Nicholas Moran what a 120mm MPAT would to do a BMP if it missed he'd tell you "well...you missed." The ground damage model is pretty bad, I grant you that...but people overestimate the capabilities of tiny warheads blast and fragmentation against ARMORED vehicles...
@@Chrinik how about near misses with 1000lb and 2000lb bombs that do 0 damage.. I'm not underestimating the damage model, it's broken. Always has been.
@@Munky332 I did my own personal testing on this and dropping a 2000lbs bomb into a cluster of tanks destroyed usually 4-6 of them and damaged a couple more. If I used trucks I would get considerably more kills. The damage model is broken and very basic, but not in every concievable way. Tanks are insanely resilient to blast and fragmentation, as is expected. They're tanks.
Not that it matters in a video game, especially since you’re just playing for fun- but if you wanted to be more accurate with your brevity terms: Visual- I see the aircraft in my formation Blind- I don’t see the aircraft in my formation Tally- I see the airborne threat No Joy- I do not see the airborne threat Contact- I see the target on the ground Negative Contact- I don’t see the target on the ground Either way - still cool flying in a cool video, and the music at the end was a cool combo, too. Lol the morse sounded like you had a navaid tuned in with the volume all the way up.
@ralfiedude, how do you move croshairs AFTER you locked them up successfully...in my hotas x56 after i lock up, that shit moves only up, lol..i can go left, right, up and also up..wtf..is it because plane is jiggling too much and some gyro stuff happening in the background... also can you explain how precise you are when targeting, do you more or less just target on first pass-to put reticle basically on target!? or do you just lock somewhere close to target and move locked crosshairs back to target?..
Ah yes, the actually fun Su-25. I hate flying the T, I only do it when I absolutely have to. Too sluggish, shit visibility, and I like the older weapons on the A better anyway. I've also learnt that while the S-8KOM sucks against light armour, the S-8OFP is surprisingly deadly. Just DCS damage model things I guess, a near miss from HE-frag does more than a direct hit from HEAT. Also: no Cold War experience would be complete without Alpen losing his shit over SRS while someone teamkills, lmao
Just ordered the cougar MFDs so I can finally play the non-clickable cockpit aircraft without instantly raging :D why they've never updated to an interactive cockpit I will never understand...
The music worked really well for you montage, how do you find it? Just a ton of manual searching? Or is there some database out there for soundtrack music suggestions?
