Going On My First Date in NYC! 

I recently learned that when you're asked what you look for in a guy or what your ideal type of guy is, you DON'T tell them because then they'd just try to be whatever those characteristics are rather than show you their true self

I totally think you should go on a second date! I’m a therapist in training and my professor said something super simple but mind blowing which was “the only thing you really know about someone on the first date is how they present themselves on a first date”. Who knows, you might find that “something” that you feel like is missing after going on more dates. Or maybe you’ll find that the “something” is just the junkie chaos 🤪

As someone in a longterm relationship I can say that people can become the perfect fit for you even though they might not have every ideal characteristic you imagined. I think it´s unrealistic to think that one person has everything you want but when you get to know each other and start to become a team, they develop into someone whos perfect for you. But people will never experience that if they fear to "settle" and look for every flaw another person has. Then again, if you want to date and meet lots of people, go for it! 💪💕 (My comment is more for people who want to have a relationship. But also like Jen said there has to be a certain threshold. Your partner should already have a lot of qualities you want in a relationship. Don´t "settle" for anyone but choose someone who is like 95 % perfect because I don´t think that there is 100 %.)

Obviously get to know him better, he could be a super villain lol. But don't be too scared of people who are similar to you! My partner and I since day one were basically the same person, it's super nice and super fun to have a relationship like that. I've also found that (as someone who has a hard time expressing my feelings and having abandonment issues) being able to have someone who is so similar and can understand how you feel when you can't quite voice it (in good and bad times) is such a relief and the patience and care we have for one another is so great! I hope you find your person when you're both ready, and I hope its absolutely fabulous

I’m also kinda new in the dating world and I’ve never been in a relationship and it makes me feel so uncomfortable because I have so many friends around me in a longterm relationships (and I’m also virgin lol) and I am genuinely sooo happy when I hear someone else experiencing it so thank you so much! lowkey wanting an enemies to lover story is so valid bc same but also yeah just keep that to fiction bc I promise you it will NEVER go the way you want it to irl. I have realized I tend to fantasize a lot about like bad situations going right except it turns into romance lmaooo that's how my brain copes I guess. like I'll get bullied and then I'll fantasize, not specifically about the actual person who bullied me but like a cuter more redeemable bully I made up in my head, and I daydream about this bully going from hating my guts to falling madly in love with me and doing everything in their power to gain my forgiveness bc they feel so awful for having hurt me in the past. that will never happen irl. I'm almost 27 and have had my fair share of people misunderstanding me or being nasty to me etc and rarely do they ever apologize for what they did and the times that has happened, we just end up realizing we're better off without each other. my last ex was in a bad spot in her life when we dated and I was too so we were just kinda toxic for each other. anyway tldr I loooove enemies to lovers type romance in stories but it's been a hard lesson for me to learn that my taste in fictional partners is NOT the same as my taste in irl partners bc I used to seek out my fictional dream partner irl who was like, cool guy who is obsessive and overly protective and controlling, wants me to themselves etc, but those are literally such terrible traits in an irl partner all I got was abused. and finally I'm happy with a sweet goofy guy who equally hates sharing his opinion and I've realized that's exactly what I need bc I'm so bad at speaking my mind but having someone who also can't decide anything has forced me to make decisions on my own lmfao. he's such a pushover but so am I. he's so healthy for me it's insane. he's a golden retriever and he knows it lmaooo I'll literally send him videos of golden retrievers and be like "this is u" and he loves it. boys deserve to be soft and be cared for!! I will continue thirsting over fictional villains though because they are not real and can't actually hurt me

I think this is just the aftermath of getting caught off guard. I'm so happy for you, for finding someone you had a good time with!! And the only way you'll know if they are going to be a good partner is to continue meeting up with them until you have all the information. It's in these situations where we don't prepare for the future because you've never had to follow up on a date. But now, for the first time, you need to see this to the end, for your peace of mind. And if it doesn't go anywhere and you're still not feeling it, then let it be, I'm sure your similarities would make for great friendship if that's as far as you want to take it right now.

I wanted to touch on your comment about feeling like it’s too late to experience that innocent love feeling, and let me just say, you’re definitely not! I was in your shoes, feeling like at 26 I would never experience that sweet, innocent, butterfly filled lovely feeling because I was homeschooled. Never dated in college- so when I started dating seriously, it was more so goal oriented, not love oriented. I just wanted to find someone I could get along with since love itself alluded me for years. After getting out of a three year long loveless relationship, I got a new job and started making friends. I met this amazing guy that made hours feel like minutes. All I wanted to do was be near him, hear his voice, touch his hands, hug him sweetly. It felt all so innocent, and I was surprised to find he reciprocated the same gentle falling in love feeling. We’re both 26 and definitely not young high schoolers, but he makes me feel like one again. It’s the first time I’ve felt this way about anyone, at 26, so don’t lose hope my darling. It’ll creep up on you without even noticing- Atleast that’s how it happened for me. I stopped trying and just focused on bonding, and it went a long way!
