I’m from OpenToAll and that was the first time we finished a ctf with 0points, this was the hardest ctf by far but we learned so much too. Great experience as well. See you next year maybe! @Liveoverflow, just a suggestion, but maybe don't mention the fact that your team participated in hacking something on an airplane as it implicates you in endangering the flight and you could get in trouble with aviation safety people. They take this sort of stuff quite serious, even if it was just a monitor. There was a case earlier with a team accessing in-flight network and I believe they almost got sued.

8:39 From the picture, they're security guards from property management. In China it is required to have some sort of crowd control method onsite when conducting event at that scale, otherwise local authority will probably refuse to give them the permission to run it.

Guards here are common, they're not police, just security - they're not threatening at all - and the x-ray machines are a lot of places, just making sure people aren't bringing in silly things like knives. But glad you enjoyed your time.

Hey this is unrelated to the video but I was playing with dotpeek and an application apparently made for exam simulations and I found a string that looks like this: \xF19C\xF19D\xF19E (It's actually longer than this) I tried searching it but I still don't know what it is, at first I thought it was hex but I don't know how to convert it, it was labeled as VM password.

These guards were just outsourced security guards, likely employed by either building or event management. The emphasis on this CTF competition really shows where China is focused on for the future. Province of Henan, particularly its capital city Zhengzhou, is being positioned as a logistics centre for China due to its strategic location (centrally located, away from oceans or borders). This city is also very rich in history and culture. Awesome video, I enjoyed watching it from Canada. Hope that your team had many yummy pasta dishes in Henan!

Hey LiveOverflow do you have any advice on how to find hackathons/coding competitions in China/Asia in general to attend? I've been looking but can't find a good website that lists them.

Just last week or so I went to a data science hackathon with my friends. We are only in high school, but there are university students and people from company all over the place in this hackathon. TBH we just know basic loops and functions in Python and didn't actually know anything about ML at the time. Luckily we got a team with other 2 people which have more knowledge than us. However, we still didn't pass into the finals. Overall, it was a pretty fun experience.

I am really interested into hacking and all of this from a young age. Currently I am 19 and I haven't seriously gotten into it but obviously I am very tech savvy and all. All the tutorials online aren't that helpful for the real hacking that I believe and most of them are aimed at cyber security and stuff. I was wondering if there is a free way to learn online about real hacking in the practical world and whether its worth it right now since I am still young, I am quite enthusiastic about it

Yoh if this is the next to be “espots” then I need to get cracking on my hacking!! I was at one point in my life top 10 in the world at CoD and I held that for 6 years!! Unfortunately I never truly pursued it and now I’m to old and slower reaction time than back then... /bummer

Although Henan is the ancestral birthplace of most Chinese civilization, its a economic and cultural backwater now. Likely why those officials hosted those competitions to convince more young people to work and start businesses there.

It's a very cheap way to get all the hacking know how on a spot, observe and learn the tricks from the best. You have been mined. That's all about the extraction of knowledge. What do you think? Not that knowledge isn't available, books of Nietzsche are, too. But it needs bright minds to understand it and apply the knowledge. And those are sparse. And also you get to know who are the people actually able to do it world wide. And most likely it was like Endors Game. So you think you are doing CTF, but in reality one of the challenges was a real hack. And the solution now gets applied. It is like this problem of the military to get scientists to tell them where to put nuclear bombs. They refused. Then they changed the challenge to, "where do we need to place hospitals in this city to optimal serve the people." They did it. And the military knew where to place their bombs. Just do CTF, it's a game. Nobody ever would go and actually hack some vulnerable security site for the Chinese government. You most likely did.

I very liked this video and it was very enlightning to see how Chinese province try to promote their provinces as the future hub for Cybersecurity. Keep it up !
