The fruit loops colours are different because the dyes used in North America are banned in Europe. Go on a week day for smaller crowds.

In the US it’s said the best time to go to Costco to avoid crowds and craziness is between Tuesday and Thursday, arriving between 3 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and weekends in general are crazy here, too.

Loved your Costco video!! I am thinking that the signage was in English because they are an American company, maybe? Some of the prices were excellent and loved the different products from France. Paris is my husband and I favorite city!! I have never seen a Costco that busy except for here in Florida when the snowbirds arrive and stocking up for the winter. Love watching Jean expressions. Tomorrow we make our trip to Costco, cannot wait and always enjoy the hot dogs!

Good point, Costco is USA (Seattle) company. But... France has a French language regulation on products sold in France. I think it was 100% mandatory French language must be on labels and ads and whatever language creator has listed.. It has been decades since I got BA in French and covered French Academy rules (think Merriam Webster & word officials, centuries old).

We live in Houston, TX. Costco is very popular here. We were just on the Big Island of Hawaii and were surprised to learn that every island in Hawaii has a Costco. We went on a week day and it was amazingly crowded. The food court was outside and was quite busy. We went back on a Saturday, just for gasoline, and when we drove by the food court, it was jammed packed! Note: we used to be brand name ‘snobs’, but anything Kirkland brand is excellent! We even buy their Toilet paper, now.

I think all products are for the whole European market. It’s cheaper to sell european products to Europeans than shipping from the US, plus the norms and laws are different so you would need two different line of production anyway. They’re mainly labelled in English, but there should be small instructions in French or else it would illegal to sell here.

Merci, merci ! I live part time in USA and part time in Paris. Each time I am in Paris I am tempted to rent a car and go to costco. I will do it next time, my flat is 39m2 and there is no space for all those food deals ! But I rent is out on AIrBNB and it might be worth it for the paper towels, cleaning products and Toilet Paper! And the membership is cheaper that here in USA. Question, How long does it take to get there from Paris ? I drive here in California, but never have in Paris ! Thanks again Guys for the video ! If I got , it would be on a weekday for sure.

Nope ☺️ like I said, jean and I do the vast majority of our bread/fruit/veg/meat/fish shopping from local organic shops as do most French people. Costco is great for big household stockups (toilet paper, dish soap, appliances) but I don’t see people sacrificing the quality of local produce

I live not far from the Costco, lol, but I still have NEVER gone. When I lived in Korea I went at least once a year (there are more Costcos in Korea anyways, like one in each major city) mostly for turkey and frozen green beans for Thanksgiving because we couldn't find it on regular stores there. When we moved to France, me and my partner talked about getting a membership since we knew we'd be living close, but we decided not to because we realized all the things we'd normally get at Costco in Korea was available in regular supermarkets/hypermarches here in France. Plus we didn't have a car, still don't, and the bus to get there is slightly complicated.

You are so cute! I thought your reaction to Paris Costco was so funny 😂 As a US citizen and frequent Paris visitor, our curiosity got the best of us to compare what the difference would be if any. Of course being a US company the labels would be in English lol. The "French" products here have English labels too, so they probably wouldn't want the expense of relabeling everything. We always rent a car when we visit Paris because we choose to stay in the suburbs and having a car is more practical for our activities and travel needs, so we of course had to visit Costco there. We found it a little smaller than the Costcos in our area and it wasn't as busy because we went during the week. We were wondering how practical it would be for the French with much smaller places and fridges but for the suburban dwellers with more square footage and possibly 2nd freezers, it makes sense. It was not lost on us that consumerism is more of a US/N.American thing but apparently the appeal of Costco knows no bounds 😂 It was bittersweet to experience Costco in France but not everyone can have the charmed life of living in the city and frequenting farmers markets for their daily meals, so it's understandable to me that Costco would inevitably become a thing in France too 🤷🏽‍♀️ As an American I loved it tho. Your reaction was how I feel every time I shop at Costco so I totally get it 😁 btw, there used to be a delicious boulangerie not too far from the Costco out there, which is rare because the boulangeries outside the city are rarely as good as the ones in the city. Not sure if it's still there since our visits were precovid

Thank you for showing us a Costco in France! Was your Canadian Costco membership card not accepted in France? The experience is very similar to our American Costco. It's very strange to see some products from France with unilingual English labels, while the same products from France of the same brand sold in a Costco in Quebec all have bilingual French - English labels. It is really surprising that France does not have a law on compulsory signage in French.
@chucku00
@chucku00 2 месяца назад
This English-only labels is forbidden in France. IDK how Costco is able to get a pass, or maybe the DGCCRF (French commercial business regulatory administration) still hasn't catch on this infraction. But it's really puzzling unless it's related to the fact Costco clients need a card to buy products and accept this situation by contract when they subscribe.

We need a Costco in Greece too! Food has become so expensive you're forced to search hours for better prices ! Can you believe that the cost of your food is cheaper in Finland (I'm finnish) than here in Crete (where the salaries are very low) although they produce most of the food here. I'm so angry about the fact that local super markets take advantage of the situation in the world instead of giving discounts to help the consumers ! the cost of living would be interesting to know in your shoes , how much do you spend a month in mandatory expenses?

Its worth the car rental to go every few months to stock up & save the money at costco especially before the holidays you find good gifts there too. Hi ! Just popping, found your video by chance and I think I know why everything is in English, or kinda. The thing is that it's came in France kinda late, and after that the public knew about costco by social media and stuff. We had almost the same concept, wich is Metro, a german branch of "grossiste" (sorry, don't know the name in english) but yeah, same concept of costco, but european and in France since the 70's. So, there are more Metro than Costco here I think, and to not have the same exact stuff in the two places, Costco probably sold stuff from the US. I think, not sure. Hope it's help !

I'm betting the french products are sold for export to the North America markets so the labels are in english. They just divert a small amount to the French costco. Relabing or buying french labels would be just added cost, which isn't how costco keeps prices low.

So interesting that so many items had English point-of-sale material. I'm assuming a) France doesn't have the same strict langugage laws as Canada/Quebec and b) Costco must be importing the same goods meant for the U.S. market. Likewise, Costco is allowing French/European brands to distribute them products meant for foreign markets. The demand for "Club pack" format is also larger in other markets, after all.

@@Ariellelaparisienne 😂😂😂I too feel seen! It's so funny and surprising to me that what we consider the most basic dessert that anyone can make out of a box is something that the best bakers in the world can't even conceive of. When my fiancé was in the U.S. recently we bought literally a Sara Lee cake from the frozen aisle and he was like "wow....rien à voir" 😂. I'm totally bringing a box or two of Duncan Hines back with me this summer. P.S. The wedding cakes we tried were exactly how you described: the cake itself was almost like sponge cake, and kind of dry. And the frosting was either like butter or whipped cream, nothing in between.

Costco membership in the US is about 55euros ($60). The Kitchen Aid mixer was 319euros ($350) last time I checked. The fromage section chez vous is enormous! Some of the food prices you showed are lower than US. I’ve also never seen bread filled with Boursin. The Kraft Mac n cheese was pricey. I eat Annie’s Mac n Cheese for about 1.25 box. You are so radiantly beautiful yet you have that terrible condition that youve told us of but no one would know. It seems that every life has counter balances in it. I just find it poignant that,for all of us,we have some great advantage but also drawback in our lives. Sorry, must get back to the shopping......

Your trip to Costco is the smoking gun as to why people in the West are dying at much higher rates from heart disease and cancer than ever before . What was a skinny slice of cake for a very special occasion is now “let’s buy two of these huge cakes, loaded with sugar and red dye, just for now, repeat, repeat, repeat. It’s sad to think that two beautiful and smart people will be facing the agonies of cancer and heart disease. Costco is the complete antithesis of the best way to eat for humans and also the way the French eat. And where are you going to store all that perishable food? Not in one traditional French refrigerator, that’s for sure, so now you need to buy a freezer or upgrade the fridge. Hello, religion of consumption above all. I know you’re just doing this to highlight the stark difference between the way we live in North America to the traditional French way of life, right?

Fascinating video EXCEPT that the endless "boopety-boopety" NON-Background / NON-Music endless loop / CRAP "music track" made us stop watching. Who wants audio "Chinese water torture" in a RU-vid video. SO totally unnecessary and so distracting. Lost two viewers (who have a GOOD PC sound system, which made the above even worse.),
