Going to the Dentist in Quito Ecuador

I'm from Czechia and anesthesia for drillings isn't yet a norm here either, but luckily, I think that's slowly changing. After years and years of suffering, I switched to a dentist who just administers it straight away. I'm no longer sweating and having heart palpitations while sitting in a waiting room and my teeth health has vastly improved, because not only am I not afraid to go there, but she's also very diligent. I was struggling with gingitivis for quite some time and repeatedly complained about this to my previous dentist, but it didn't lead anywhere. This was actually the reason why I started looking for a new dentist. The first time I came to see her, she taught me how to use interdental toothbrushes and made some adjustments so that I could fit them in between the teeth (just like you show in the video). That was actually the reason I didn't clean my teeth properly, because the few times I tried to use a floss, I almost ripped my tooth out :D I may sound like a coward, but I've had dozens of drillings done without anesthesia and I don't think it's possible to get completely used to it. Once it goes past the enamel, it just starts getting increasingly more painful and one just has to sit tight and wait for it to finally end. And for really deep drillings, I often experienced severe pain for many more days due to some nerve going crazy (I'm not talking about the filling settling and stuff, that's just uncomfortable, not painful), which has never happened to me with the anesthesia. If there was an emergency and anesthesia somehow wasn't available, I know I'd be able to handle it, but man... The quality of life is so much better when it IS available :D Instead of having my focus sabotaged for 3 days, it's just a mild inconvenience to go there and I can (mentally) function normally the moment I leave the chair. I guess it's the same story with the dentists everywhere. Some are excellent, some not so much... That's the case with all professions, but we only have one health.

I just came back from Ecuador last night. Had a crown redone. I paid $8 for x- rays and $300 for the crown in Quito. I am so grateful to the dentist who did the work.

Man I went to Quito, and loved the place…but dental work was not part of my experience… such is life….
