I swapped out the 19 inch wheel on my 2014 street glide for a 21 inch. I definitely noticed a difference at low speed maneuvering. Took a little getting used to but I love it
Tall thanks for this video I just ordered ruckus wheels for my 2021 road glide special black and red with chrome its going to look awesome harley put a stage 2 new chrome forks led lights just waiting on wheels thanks again
Tall you’ve become a valued source of high quality performance bagger information from a riders perspective. As you seem to put in a lot of road miles, I’m curious about your thoughts on tires. I’m working on a build running 18” & 21” wheels. The rear is 200mm which I think exceeds 5.5” wide? And on the front 21” rim I’d like to run a phat tire >130 but
I have the same size tires and same size wheels as you Tall on my 20 RGL.. 21 and 18 in the back the ride is not compromised at all. Feels really really good. Btw, this is an awesome video. Continue to ride and stay safe. God Bless.
Not Trying To Answer Talls Question, But I See You Didn't Get A Response. I've Heard Tall Mention That He Didn't Want His Hands Positioned Above The Fairing. Me And Tall Are The Same Height However I'm Going With The 12's.
Do you sit higher on the bike.. although your a tall guy ( no Pun intended lol) would it still be possible for a shorter guy to flat foot on the floor? Nice wheels btw.. 🍻
To finish off the look of that new 21", chrome your lower forks and chrome the brake calipers (check out Willy Shiny) I did and he does excellent chrome work
Cool video ! The road test was very cool riding footage .. Ive got an anniversary FXD that has many changes recently. The last change "for now" is the wheels. Ive got a 21 x3.5 on front with 120/70-21 and the 18 x 3.5 with 150/70-18 is a couple weeks out. So, I must say your ride is sweeeeet !
Thats a nice bike. I changed my 17 sgs to a 21 front wheel and I lowered the front end with a progressive suspension kit to bring it back down to stock height. I'm 5'9" and didn't want the bike to sit higher. I don't feel any difference in the handling performance. While I was at it I chromed the lower legs, added polished rotors and changed the fender to a wrap around style. Looks great. Take care. Happy New years.
@traveling tall how are the chrome wheels holding up i was interested in buy a set of wheels from the after watching you video but the I seen they have a lot of bad reviews about not standing behind there product
If the overall diameter of the rear wheel, with tire installed, didn't change substantially... Then recalibration won't be necessary. You typically counter this with a lower profile tire, via aspect ratio, on a larger wheel diameter.
Looks awesome, You talked about it leaning further due to new height on the bike so, what kickstand did you go with to level it up. I did the same thing on my sgs and got a kickstand for when one goes with a 21” wheel, but it just seems to be longer and doesn’t do anything for the leaning
TT I would have put 90 degree valve stems on your new wheels. It would have made it easier checking the air pressure and filling air. I check mine all the time!!!
Hey BigBro, What front tire has been the best for that 21 inch in your experience? I ride a Yamaha Raider it's a 18 rear 21 inch front factory. But I ride fast, I need a good performance tire in that size
Just my opinion . The big front wheel just makes a bike look odd . The old school choppers of the 70s ? Didn’t look all that bad with a lot of rake . Kind of reminds of these kids with a squatted Tahoe . But hey . I’m just old school . Let me know how she rides 😎kind of curious how raising the center of gravity by 2” works
What I'm most surprised about with those wheels is the fact that you didn't do chrome legs to complement them. It's actually not a bad look at all with those stock legs. Actually provides a good contrast. Not bad at all. Tall, are those 10" Six Bend Kicker KST bars?
Lookning good, I’m are changing my Wheeling däringa this winter but are waiting for the front brake rotors to come from USA 🇺🇸. I live inte shoutern parts of Sweden.
The change in tire profile I believe is more impacting than the larger radius...I am assuming you went to a 200 tire in the rear (mine I went to a 55/200). It actually only raises the bike 1 inch, not 2 going from a 19 to a 21 so its not quite as impacting. To me it actually helps the bike to fall into turns. The other thing is that the new wheels are lighter than stock which REALLY helps with rotating mass and reduces gyroscopic effect, so changing direction should be easier (think about spinning something on a pencil and holding the pencil with your hands and and changing directions like its a tire...how much does resistance to direction change is there as you spin a heavier object) This is why sportbikes you will see magnesium wheels and carbon wheels...making them lighter to make direction changes easier....this is exactly what you are doing here.....with rotating mass, the rough comparison is 4 lbs to 1....so if you saved 5 lbs on wheels its the same as 20lbs of mass..... Anyhow, the bike looks and sounds SWEET!!!!! Love your vids!!!!
I have a street glide special. Did you have to make any modifications to go from a 180 tire to a 200 tire Did you any problems with rubbing on your belt
Hey hey 👋🏾 Slim . Late merry Xmas . now to the wheels they look 👀 good you shouldn’t have any regrets if u do then that’s on you . man i have a 23’’-18’’ on my bike i love it . turn and burn knee’s in the breeze . happy new year 🎆. Leonard from cali rackem oh keep striking 👊🏾🙏🏾☝🏽👋🏾
Tall the wheel setup looks amazing!! I recently put a 21" chrome Reinforcer front wheel on my Street Glide. I'd love your take on it do you have an email address I could send you some before and after pictures?
The rear is 18x5.5 inch? That's only 140 cm wide. No offense but that's pretty skinny for a big bike. My rear is 240 cm or almost 9.5 inches on a sport bike. He needs wider tires not taller wheels. And yes it does affect the ride, the handling and definitely the speedo. Not that it's a bad thing but you have to know what you are doing and how it will change everything.
