Gojira is far from satanic. Insane, look at their lyrics when it comes to other songs. They literally talk about saving the environment and talk about self-improvement. It's like calling August burn red satanic when they're literally a Christian metal band. Just cause a song sounds heavy, doesn't make it satanic.

As a frenchman and metalhead, when i heard and saw gojira at the olympics, i was really proud and surprised by how badass the show was. Imo, pepole call it satanism because they just want drama and see metal as evil and "satanic" when in that case it was just a way to honor our history and put light on the metal scene (which is very misunderstood in France).
They just wanna be right like "I told you the devil did this and I'm going to heaven now you're not" nothing divine in their thinking or the way they judge everything which shouldn't even be their thing to do as a Christian 😂 and labeling other cultures satanic is maximum egotistic and blinded by fear

And for them if Nergal is a Satanist and sings metal then they automatically assume that metal equals Satanism. Even at work, I have one person who automatically equates metal with Satanic music. No matter what I say to it, this association works for him on a subconscious level. And because I have heard some information about a lawsuit against Nergal for quite absurd reasons quite often, I have already got used to the fact that some Catholics are simply irrationally crazy.
French here and I was extremely surprised (and very happy) to see Gojira performing at the Olympics opening ceremony. I am so proud of this for many reasons. Firstly, metal music has never been a popular genre in France and French metal bands have to work very hard to get a little bit of recognition. I am extremely proud of Gojira for achieving this incredible performance I never expected to see in my life. 😍 Secondly, it sends the message that France is welcoming everyone and that the Olympics are for everyone, whatever your sexual orientation, gender, musical taste, etc. And that's extremely important to send this message at the moment because there is a raise of extremism in France and in the world. I do not care about the minority of people who call that "satanic". I also have read a lot of comments of people saying they never listenened metal music and yet they loved Gojira's performance at the Olympics. These are the comments that count for me 🥰
To clear up people in the comments that are still wrong; It wasn't the Last Supper. It was the god of partying and wine Dionysus, you know from Olympus.....the Olympics. The rest of the imagery is still centered around Olympus/Olympic imagery. The reason Christians and Catholics think it's the Last Supper, is because the Christian faith stole from a ton of religions and sects before them to shape theirs. You're not offended, you're just ignorant. If you're still wrong and think it's the Last Supper, please tell me when a frolicking man was there with a glass of wine partying. Doing more research I can now see that it is clearly depicting the olympic gods celebrating from the painting "the feast of the gods". I was definitely the ignorant here.

And even if it was about Olympus, do you actually think that they didn't know what they are doing portraying scene almost identical to "Last Supper"? Proud 50 years old French female here, not much in metal but i occasionnally listen to some, an online gamer too, and i thought this was EEEEEEPIIIIc !! Metal music and Assassin Creed, an opera singer and the french revolution all wrapped in one single package....fucking proud !! As a people, we are always complaining and winning about everything , people love to hate us and we love to hate the english ha ha, but we don't give a rat's ass about who is offended by what, and especially religious people. We allow all kinds of religious freedom but will never let religious integrists who don't even know that most catholic symbolysm come from the early ages of paganism dictate what we can do and what we can think ! We paid already a huge price in blood for that but we keep pushing. I myself lost 3 friends in the Paris attacks during the concert of Eagles of Death Metal and right now my chest is bursting with pride because we dared throw Metal music in the face of all these morons. The moment I saw that on TV I imagined how it would be the general "chaos" on the social media over this genre of music, but I never thought people would really get this far calling metal satanic again to be honest. I absolutely loved the performance and it's crazy a band like gojira being seen to a lot of people worldwide and honestly this shit talk made by some people on the internet are not going to change any of the craziness and how badass this performance was.
this was the best part of the olympics (what makes this better is that it was performed at the exact place marie antoinette was held prisoner before being beheaded), can anyone just enjoy a performance that depicts actual history with a music genre befitting of the event

I see people complaining a later part of the ceremony made fun of christianity (which was not what the part was about) and people complain that it's a "circus show" and "all over the place" when it has always been like this.

I wanted Godzilla to appear at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony but I got Gojira and I loved , loved, love it so much. Their performance, the stage, the opera singer, the cinematography was so EPIC I couldn't believe it. I watched them live from my house. The French are trully special. The people who thought putting Gojira as part of the ceremony are something else. It was fantastic.
The bad thing most metal has a good message in their music. Alot of it has better message than most that people love doesnt make sense but yet everyone doesnt give it a chance to learn it. Automatic reaction is it satanic.
Thank you for the video, it was really heartwarming to me after this "scandal"! I was so sad to read all the hate comment for every single posts made about the olympics, and this way after the opening ceremony when it was about the athletes achievements (and they are all amazing !). People's ignorance cannot be measured. I am French, so obviously, for me, seeing a decapitated Marie-Antoinette in La Conciergerie is not shocking at all, it's part of our history. Having a Metal song to support it, makes 100% sense, the people were at the time fed up with monarchy. We celebrate the Bastille riots as our National Day every 14Jul! People calling it satanic is just pure ignorance. GOJIRA rocked it and it was easily one of the best performance of the opening ceremony. And the part about kids? My 10 year old nephew COULDN'T CARE LESS. He recognized Marie Antoinette, and for the drag queens, all he sais was "oh, a woman with a beard", end of story. THANK YOU for trying to restore what this was really about. We need to counter ignorance.

There was nothing satanic about it. The fire is the muskets outside the palace, during the revolution...the red dust at the end was the blood of the executions of the aristocrats and monarchy. "To anyone wondering : the woman at the beginning is a representation of Marie-Antoinette beheaded (she was queen of France during Louis XVI’s reign and she was executed during the French Revolution). The building is the “conciergerie de Paris” in which she was imprisoned before her execution. She sings : “it’ll be all right, the aristocrats to the post lamp; it’ll be all right, the aristocrats we will hung them!” which is a pre-revolutionary song sung by the people of Paris. The boat at the end is the emblem of Paris. At the very beginning of the video you can also see a remake of the very famous painting “La liberté guidant le peuple” (Liberty Leading the People) by Delacroix."

Gojira isnt the best ice breaker for people being introduced into metal but once youve gotten your feet wet and you really want to dive into really heavy stuff Gojira is pretty accessible at that point. They definitely are an elite band on the metal scene that everyone seems to enjoy even if thats not a genre they care for me included. With them being french too it just makes total sense. The mix of opera, and visuals also made it much more accessible as well i enjoyed it.
As a Christian, the gojira performance has nothing to do with satanism. The rest of the Olympics? Sure. Something that looks "dark" rarely actually is. They paid a tribute to an awesome historic event and it was metal asf. Good day for metal

It's the "Satanic Panic" part deux. Metal is supposed to provoke a reaction out of people. It's the one genre always surviving. It goes through peaks & valleys despite being cast aside by other forms of music. The same applies to classal music. I love seeing and hearing people complain how appalled they are. Side note. We too provoke reactions at our concerts. Where I play we always have confederate flags around. There however is a difference between that and drag queens. You need to know where to draw a line.

It is a very strong symbol, it is ingrained in our history, I know this song yet it is 230 years old, we must understand that if France made the revolution, it was following social abuses, pandemic, famine, war, taxes without respite for centuries the French people revolted and it remained in the collective unconscious! as soon as something goes wrong the French take to the streets and demonstrate! hence our reputation as a complainer. I literally saw no one calling that Gojira performance "satanic" but the mockery on christianity made with drag people and kids, yup, I call that "woke", and I'm happy than the people and companies are unhappy with the Olympics show made that night. It was not a mockery of Chrsit or any religion. It was a re enactment of a Rottenhammer painting depicting a classical feast. It had a message of the absurdity of conflict given that it was followed by the Imagine performancs. The Last Supper fiasco was spurred by the media. It came from a single article and spread like fire across news channels and comments.
This is not satanic. I am European and I can understand the hidden meaning of this famous French song. Also, I am a Catholic and they do make a lot of discernment in Catholicism betwreen satanic and non satanic. Something can ve provocative at both a political and a social level, but not satanic. To us Europeans this is just cool.

LOVED the gojira performance and also love gojira anyway but the rest of the opening ceremony was very cringe and I did not like it but I think most of the people were already offended by that "woke" part so they were already annoyed so they couldn't find anything good for the rest of it
