Yooo that’s so fucking funny lol. I rock with Stone Sour but I would have to leave before they started so I could put my face back together. That shit was fucking brutal as fuck man I pray I get to see them perform this one live one day
When I first heard Gojira I thought to myself “holy shit, how the fuck does that guy hit the drums so hard?” and “he must go through drum heads like crazy.” Then I couldn’t stop listening to more.
@@donovinskates0062 i think it means that the music that gojira creates is so huge and captivating that when it is over... the silence is just as powerful as the music as everyone stands in awe of what they have just witnessed
plays some ambient sounds for a whole minute at a metal concert, then 5 minutes of the same riff on repeat. and it's arguably the greatest metal outro i've ever heard in my life. that's what it means to have raw emotion in your music, all the "complexity" and stuff fades away and that's whats left. more of todays metal bands trying to do this 'technical' thing need to understand this
As a drunk rightly said near me during a Gojira concert ... "They are scaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" Then he vomited on my shoes, but that's another story ... Best metal band, for me.
read an article in 2010-2011 time frame. randy blythe was asked who the best undiscovered band was. he answered gojira, and I searched youtube. no regrets. these guys are awesome.
Randy brought Gojira along with LOG on a tour here in the US. They played a venue in Fresno, Ca that my friends and I attended. Gojira was the opening band. I was already fully aware of them and had been a fan for a while. My friends and I walked right up to the front of the stage as there were only about 50 people in the entire venue paying attention to them. When Gojira finished their set, everyone was talking and asking questions about them. I've been lucky enough to have seen them a four more times since that show. Every time was equally as good.
@@tdub6106 bro I saw them same tour chico CA ...I'm a musician and music nerd myself, i never thought i get to see them for some years and when I heard they were coming to our small little town I literally had a single tear roll down haha needless to say fucking amazing that was like 12 years ago it seems like
@@vinnytheevyllpopcorn8291 i think there's a band called sleep. It's full of stoners and stoners listen to it. They make songs of fucking gigantic length, like the one i think that guy is referencing which is called dopesmoker and it's the only song of its album because it's like an hour long. There's full albums less than that.
Kai Peters Two great bands! Been a die hard Trivium fan for years but only listened to Gojira for a month or so now but they are becoming a favorite very fast.
Saw then live on a knotfest and i was crying the entire time they played, i was in nirvana just letting my feelings go wild, i just recently lost someone close to me, my friend asked me on his death bed to play this song minutes before he left us, he was with us and then the solo came, and he was no longer there, he went with the whales of the cosmos, and everytime i listen to this he this he is here teaching the beauty of life, its a small fragment of live i cant never let go, everytime this come on my playlist i can only crie to express my love for him, my friend is not here, but his love is with me. Long live him!!!!
@@mihaistoian478 I saw Gojira last year. I wasn't into them at all back then, as, well, the only songs I'd heard back then were Stranded and Silvera which definitely aren't really good songs to start Gojira off of. In 90 minutes, they had mesmerized me and thrown themselves into my top 5 bands of all time. That's how fucking good these guys are live.
Unearthlywhales - I've actually thought of this exact thing. Thunder, rain, and lightning during a Gojira show. During a breakdown have a big bolt of lightning go across the sky. Haha.
I have seen them in the rain and moshing was a bitch xD but it was pretty epic underneath a giant tree in Nijmegen, Holland. Was just missing the wind/lightning and this song.
In 2014-2015 gojira were playing flying whales aroud midnight in vagos metal fest in portugal and it started to rain when the song was about to drop hard. It was the most insane brilliant mesmerizing thing ever in music for me.
This song is just brutally powerful. At the same time, it's very meditative and relaxing. I've come back to this performance of the song many times. It has so much power and energy that it consumes me. Gojira has to be one of best metal bands out today (and potentially of modern rock/metal) and I am glad to have been around to experience this while its unfolding.
This version is so much better than the studio version. The bit in the ambient interlude at 5:10 with Joe screaming along with the droning tremolo picked guitar and cymbal swells is just so much more bone-chilling and ominous than the build up to the outro on the album. It evokes the emotions of terror and awe that one would probably experience in witnessing some kind of lovecraftian behemoth rising from underneath the waves of the ocean (which is fitting considering, you know, they are called Gojira).
The last section of the song is amazing. The way its designed the vocalist has the freedom to insert the vocals when he wants because the rest of the band is essentially looping over and over. At the end he motions to the drummer to end the song. At this point the control is with the drummer. The filler the drummer adds at the end signals to the other band members the timing to stop.
There is a lot bands who sound's better/much better than the studio version, but Gojira is the only band that i know who does justice to the song since their first days till this date
Vitor Heerdt It was a bit of an exaggeration, but by far this is my favorite band to see live. When I heard Flying Whales just this past week, my lawd.
A deep voice is rising From the heart of the mountain Vibrations of the stone I can hear in my heart The call of instinct The flight of the powerful I hunger for it It just keeps me alive I met the dragon In a cave by the mountain Now I bring the evidence The beast is alive This ageless army Will strike in the morning And then a star will rise And shine in the sky But I grow impatient Cannot stand the wait And I start to dig Within me This tunnel to I In this region of me A great dragon is lying On the wealth of a mighty world My own world inside I saw I saw monsters And I And I started to dig within When I When I turn my back on them They devour me In this region of me A dragon is lying there Awake Monster Monsters kings Do not scorn them But do not fear them Muster Muster thy army Dragons are the myth alive In the heart of men
No you're right. The lawsuit isn't on yet. Toho is pressuring the band to change the name, just as they did when they were called "Godzilla". But it's one thing you can be guaranteed of is Toho will sue if their demands aren't met.
I can only imagine what the last four minutes must have been like live... That heavy ass riff turning your brain into jelly and Mario's relentless double bass pounding in your chest like a jackhammer
There are just so many bands nowadays, so many sub-genres.. Most are good. Less are great. These guys are not copycats. You can see their passion and their authenticity in their eyes. They command my respect. Real artists. Total professionals. I'm even more impressed that this band comes from France. I'm a fan from now on.
Yeah man, it's funny how Joe, Mario and Jean Michel can all be like rocking off to the maximum, headbanging, running around the stage, the whole shebang and then there's Christian in the corner just playing serenely as if he's just jamming out at his house. I fucking love him
ER nurse here. This song got me through the past two years of the pandemic which still continues. I’m tired of filling body bags. Fuck covid and thank you Gojira.
Obligatory - "Mom, why is my brother named Rock?" "Because your mommy and daddy both love rock music" "Thanks, mom!" "No problem, Gojira - Hellfest 2013 - Where Dragons Dwell"
That very day Rock music bent his knee on front of new masters... Am I the only one watching this frenetically and liking every comment ? I don’t think so. Thank you so much for this Gojira, I listen to Rock and Metal music for 30 years and nothing can compare to this. You really opened a gate to (our personal) Hell that evening , and that’s what Rock is all about. Thanks for summoning these monsters we are.
Thank you Gojira for helping me cope with loneliness. Whenever I feel sad and empty I bike around the forest and listen to your albums - I instantly feel better. Can't wait to see you this winter in Holland
Gojira... The only band to give more than they receive! Giving 200% at aver performance!!! I smile Every time I watch them live! Im old and broken. Every show I've seen them, I was in the pit the entire show. Thank you Gojira for the amazing performances you keep giving us year after year! Please, Never Stop!! \m/ \m/
I remember in 2012 when they first played in Australia for Soundwave festival, In Adelaide they had a signing tent I didn't know about. I was inconspicuously walking passed, dressed in my Chris Fehn #3 jumpsuit and mask, when I noticed in excitement and eagerness to come face to face (sort of) with my favorite band. Possessed, I ran toward them (there was no line) I jumped and screamed with love and admiration, reaching over the signing table and hugging and laughing with them as I got to my hands and knees and bowed in a tongue in cheek manner. They equally met my energy and laughed and smiled as I shook their hands and hugged them telling them how appreciative I am of their music. 9 years later I can safely say that nothing has changed. Gojira, something truly profound and meaningful about your music impacts me whenever I listen to it. Thank you for existing in my lifetime, thank you for your hard work and creativity. Much Love always
Wow your comment is very real and heartfelt. Lovely. I discovered them just some months ago and I'm starting feeling so fond of their music that I'm scared. Ahaha
