Dude, seriously... FROM THE SKY!!!!!!! It has the most Gojira slides in it out of everything they’ve done. Others which are incredible are deliverance, the link, embrace the world and remembrance
He probably wont like it at all. Delving into metal takes time, to listen to tech death and all those shitty subgenres you should get used to constant screaming and zero melody. At some point though, it all starts to sound like the same shit.
@@bdlblob Been a metalhead for almost my entire life, yet I still haven't been able to find a soft spot for Infant Annihilator or similar genre, nor could i ever.
You could see it from a different standpoint: Gojira have a message that was overheard. So they dicided to shout it out. And maybe the music is not aggressive but disturbing - and that's just the way it should be when carrying their massage.
"Clone" or "Space Time" by Gojira from their first album, like nothing you've heard from them yet, heavy but with elements of almost sci-fi like guitar work.
And it's a great display of their approach. Gojira aren't fluffy-bunny tree-huggers. They are all about impact. And what music matches the brutality of human impact on nature better than theirs? Of course you could deliver the message even more misanthropic and gore-y (like Cattle Decapitation), but if bulldozing the Amazonas doesn't make you feel massive anger (or even "holy" wrath) - man, I don't know what else does. Silly satanic gorefest? Probably not. Not for me.
What you like is their heavy groove sections, which are so unique. The drum and bass lines drive it and their guitars compliment it really well. Space TIme, Rememberance, Clone and Esoteric Surgery, and Explosia all have really grooves which I would recommend and they are all bangers.
@@dariotoker4927 doesnt matter if its from The Link Alive or from the album.. The :ink Alive is one of my favorite dvds to this day... i had it since it came out
That part of the song at 7:36 in the video always gives me chills Edit: 10:43 I agree! They changed up the riff and it sounds awesome but it fades out :(
Finally some Terra recommendations, thank you. Remembrance the link alive is definitely one he has to check out. Clone, Blow me away you, space time are all gems.
CARL! You’re spot on this song absolutely destroys and the outro riff! Just forget it. My wife and I both lost our sh*t to this track and it’s also documented on RU-vid 🤘
My first, and only experience with Gojira live was at Heavy Montreal. I had just seen Sleep and Trivium, 2 live bands that have been playing together forever and play absolutely flawlessly. I knew Gojira was going to be great, but they made Trivium, as I mentioned before, an insanely tight band, look like a high school talent show by comparison. To your point Drew, about the message, Joe's presence on stage from the second he walks out is one of absolute disgust for humans and their disregard for the planet. It seems an unusual thing for heavy music to have an environmental message at first, but once you've done some digging, you'll see that a few of the most successful bands in metal have these types of themes. Carcass and Death both delve into the worlds of ethics and death, for animals and humans respectively.
@@nickroberts8642 yeah but like...the best way to ensure he eventually gets to Quasimodo is by getting him hooked with something way catchier. And this is Monuments we're talking about so "catchy" doesn't mean bad at all.
@@atharvajoshi5331 idk man he seems to be digging the prog scene. Just because those 2 are more straightforward doesn't mean it would hook him. If he isn't impressed out of the gate he'll never get into the more intricate stuff. Not saying he wouldn't like those, I just think Quasimodo has more character and is a perfect balance of their sounds for a good first showcase.
You’re totally right... a soft message inside the hardest sound. I feel bad for people who have a problem with taking care of the earth. It’s such a basic thing. Another reason why Gojira defies the label of ‘death metal’. They are something completely different, and they evade categorization.
I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, their tracks Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters. Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :) Halloween is a great jumping off point, the last two albums have cleaner vocals and are, dare I say it, easier listening :) than the earlier stuff. Jaguar God is the kind of music that I didn;t think got made anymore and The Last Baron has a real beauty of a riff.
Jim Jennings, right on! Mastodon does beautiful and Mastodon does heavy as ass. And most of us likes both sides. The two favorite tracks of mine are The Last Baron and Jaguar God, connecting on a emotional level with those. Keep fighting for Mastodon. I myself is a solid Cult of Luna admierer and im trying to get Ghost Trail in the line of sight for Drew. I think we´ll all very much like it. Peace!
Well, now every comment will start from “I don’t wanna hype it, but ...” You definitely need to listen one of their earlier tracks so you could appreciate the way they’ve made through all this years. So, by saying this, I recommend you to check “Clone” or “Remembrance”, you’ve definitely seen this names in your comments earlier. Be safe you all and have a big warm Hello from Russia.
Drewy my boy. You’re becoming my favourite channel. This is the first reaction I have seen of one of in the wilderness, which is one of my favourite gojira songs. Thanks for doing not the most popular songs of bands and giving them all a go even if you didn’t like the other ones before it. Cheers mate
First time seeing someone react to this song! So fucking good!! I always imagine the outro with Godzilla smashing through cities and burning everything in his path!
Drew!!!!! hahah you made me laugh out of happiness here 9:05 hahah Theres nothing better to see a true and honest reaction of music you've been enjoying for more than 15 years. You rock!! ALL THE TEARS by Gojira!!!! GOOOOOOO
After the first couple of songs he did from Gojira, i knew he wouldn’t like Backbone and Where Dragons dwell. I also am not a fan of both songs, especially backbone. My favourite Gojira is the old Gojira. Anything from Terra Incignita is pure gold to me, especially from the link alive... to each their own, that’s what makes this band so incredible!
For me, Gojiras best albums is a tie between The way of all flesh and L'Enfant Sauvage. Literally any song is amazing but a few i would recommend is Explosia, Esoteric Surgery and A Sight To Behold! PS listen to Torn Apart, Paint me red or Bloody Angel by Avatar!
One of my favorite tracks from Gojira. I like that you stick with bands and check out more of their songs unlike most channels just move to the next band.
Your next Gojira reaction's gotta be either Vacuity, The Cell, or Yama's Messengers. All bangers. Also I have a hunch you would appreciate Mudvayne's Second album, The End of All things to Come.
As mentioned earlier, From the Sky and Explosia 🤘 some real bangers for you drew! Awesome content as always🤙 shiit i almost forgot to mention Karl Johnson! 😅
I've seen Gojira live twice, and been jamming their music since I was in high school. The "From Mars" album is what made them take off, but NOBODY digs into their first two albums. I don't understand it. The funky riffs and odd time signatures everyone loves them for were FAR more plentiful on their "Terra Incognita" album. They were a lot more experimental back then, which makes it my favorite album. "The Link" is a close second. Seriously, Drew. They have a lot of good music, but if you want to fall in LOVE with an album, start with Terra Incognita. Beginning to end, it has these groovy riffs in every single song.
Drew I'm telling you The Way of All Flesh is their best album, but I'm thrilled that you're enjoying FMTS so much. Hope you get through their discography. Oroborus (trk 1 of TWOAF) is probably top 5 all of their songs, then theres the brain melter Toxic Garbage Island. But the true magic is the back half. 8-12 are just such fire, a brutal spiritual experience.
First listen to this one this evening meself. Jaysus, that outro is powerful enough to carpet bomb a small village. It sounds monstrous. Enjoyed that one. Il plug some Trivium here again for ya- recent song "What the Dead men Say" is loaded with memorable hooks, gnarly riffs, huge solos and a big chorus to sing. And its got I belive, usage of the "Gojira Slide" in one of its riffs! Deadly reaction, lad. Hope yer stayin safe up in Áth Cliath.
Embrace the world (drums and guitar are insane in this) Explosia (title says it all) The Axe, heavily underrated imo Oroborus, very cool tapping riff Liquid Fire, quite an emotional track (doesn’t mean soft)
Hello, I love Gojira. Gojira is my favorite band. Look up their early EP "Possessed" from the time they were actually called Godzilla (name changed because of legal reasons), it's also their first actual release coming after their demo album "Victim". Possessed is 18ish minutes long featuring death metal with a slight hint of what Gojira would be 3-4 years later - fun fact: Mario, the drummer, was only 15 (I believe) during this time. Have fun.
Karl is right !!! and Karl says : react to "remembrance" ( from the Link Alive concert ) if you haven't done it yet - it won't be just the outro wich is gonna kill you , but THE WHOLE F......... TRACK !!! although the outro is mindblowing too on this one !!!
Love it! You'll really fall down the rabbit hole once you start listening to their early albums. Check out "Death of Me" off of The Link and "Space Time" off of Terra Incognita
Im a new subscriber and I love your videos and for your next Gojira reaction you should do From Mars To Sirius but both tracks in 1 video because they are meant to be played one after another
I completely understand what you mean by different lyrical topics motivate people in different ways, and I am someone who actually really loves their lyrics and the environmental/ethical messages they discuss. I like to think that songs which people really connect to are ones which cover topics that are really deep and that many people can relate to on a personal level. When you put the environmental and ethical issues that they sing about into perspective you can see that these are actually issues that transcend the individual heartbreak and hardships we are all faced with, as we are all contributing to these issues on a much larger scale. They talk about our collective contribution as a species and as individuals to the destruction of life on earth itself rather than a blip of hardship that may occur in someones life, and sometimes I feel like that holds so much more meaning and warrants such hardcore instrumentals much more than hardship that an individual may face in their life.
Just subscribed mate really enjoying your content, views and reactions Takes me back to when I first heard all these bands Sticking with France here The band ‘’ igorrr ‘’ Will take you down a strange and wonderful path Check out ‘’ Himalaya massive ritual ‘’ Take note also every single song just pretty much different Thanks for all your effort during these time
