This interview felt a bit like if God just discovered that a group of angels are now his favorite band and decided to interview them personally. XD What an honour must have been at that time for Joe and Mario to be interviewed by none other than Randy Blythe.
after i start to really like a band i love to go watch interviews to get to know the band. just to see what they're really like. i love these guys even more, seem pretty cool.
You can only respect Gojira. Deliver 110% at concerts. Went to a concert with them at a small venue. After the show they took time to say hello to fans and even stayed and talked to several fans - very classy.
Hearing Joe Duplantier say "oh, this band is very powerful" is like hearing Bill Gates say "oh, this person is very rich". Definitely NOT as powerful as your own band bro, for sure
my dad's first name is Joseph but everyone calls him Joe and his middle name is Mario. Then i come along... i love Gojira, metal of all kinds and i play the drums. we're Mauritian and speak French. coincidence? i can only wonder
Truly humble dudes. I like that they touch on the french scene. Hacride, Aabsinthe and Scarve all have a similar thing going on to gojira. Technical and Monolithic. Would love a world tour involving these bands. Would be too good really. Not to mention the french black metal scene... Blut Aus Nord, Anorexia Nervosa, Deathspell Omega etc.
He's heard the same questions a million times, so he knows what not to ask, but also knows what he'd like to be asked. That and he's a great and smart guy... so he knows what he's doing?
do exactly the same thing bro. It really makes you love the music way more. Like, I didn't really like Mastodon or any of Devin Towsend projects (SYL in particular), but as soon as I heard them talk... Let's just say these are my favorite bands now.
Its because of Randy that I found out about these guys... I was watching an interview with Randy and he was talking about music he was listening to or some shit that he really liked.... or someshit... and he brought up Gojira... I was wtf is that? first listened to "the link" and fell in fucking love... not only did I really fucking like the actual music part but, I read the lyrics( yes i Couldn't understand some) and I felt ... describable I then also fell in love the lyrics and so on lmao
eRNIE mAR He sounds like a combination of Phil Anselmo, Max of Sepultura and the dude from Fear Factory all wrapped into one and the drummer gives Brann Dailor a run for his money. You can't compare them to the dude from slayer or Niko McBrain because it's like comparing a teacher to a student.
@PrinceD4rkstR I think it's really a great thing that someone like Randy from such a huge band give props to Gojira the way he does. Bands like Gojira really deserve the exposure and this helps a bit. IMO, though, I don't agree with your sentiment that Randy would like LOG to sound more like Gojira. LOG has it's own Solid, Violent and Beautifully IN YOUR FACE Metal sound. Both these bands are amazing! Can't wait for the next Gojira... I can't even imagine where it will take us. Long Live Metal
ajili777 I concur, when me and my friend went to a festival, we noticed he didn't pass the age minimum, and we talked to this guy who offered to take him with him in the festival (you could enter under supervision), which was really great, the festival rocked, and metal people really ARE the nicest of all!
They forgot to mention the band Anorexia Nervosa, but that's cool. These guys are awesome :) And so is Randy, of course. He's a sweetheart. Very glad to have met him. Hope to see Gojira in the future.
Americans aren't all assholes - only a few bad apples to make the whole bunch look shitty. The metal scene in America is way more friendly than you'd think.
Funny the mention of them always supporting when touring america. They've headlined the UK before, but recently they've had a similar situation here, first supporting trivium then recently In Flames. The thing is, literally everyone at the In Flames shows in the UK were way more excited about Gojira than they were In Flames (I know I was). Also, first timers who were there for In Flames were saying Gojira had stolen the night.
randy with an eyehategod hat and an outlaw order shirt. awesome. must have been when he was recording "for the sick" with his other band halo of locusts covering eyehategod.
I'm pretty content with the fact i have seen everyone in this video live, with their bands ofcourse. 2nd and 3rd best gigs i've ever been to, 2nd only to Tool, now that was good...
hah, i didnt know randy had a children of bodom tattoo, thats cool. i like it when members of bands appreciate their contemporaries, rather than just competing with them
When I met them they knew enough to hold a conversation, at least Mario did and the other guitarist. (sorry dont know his name) They were both very humble.
I saw Gojira AND Lamb Of God open for Metallica...Gojira isn't really my style, but my GOD they put on a kick ass show...The drummer was absolutely fantastic. Chris was too, but not quite as powerful live as Mario. It's awesome how metal kicks so much ass
@lorddresefer Ah that suck dude but they should tour again because I really want to see Gojira and they're my new favorite band. That would be cool if they had their own head lining tour but it's really expensive for foreign bands. If they tour with LOG it'll be cheaper, they'll gain a large audience, and I also get to see both of my favorite bands.
well by the "metal scene" it doesn't only involve the number of bands [quantity does not equal quality ;)]but also the way the metal community is structured and also the way the fans "think"....coming to the bands man you forgot Alcest ... their album Souvenirs d'un autre monde is one of the best albums of 2007 also anorexia nervosa, blut aus nord, deathspell omega are some of the French metal bands that I listen to..come to think of it the power metal band heavenly is also french :)
Exactly! I totally wish bands would play in smaller numbers and play LONGER. I did see Lamb of God at Sounds of the Underground, which was like 10 Amazing bands, LoG still played for like an hour and it killed Everything Ive ever seen!
He said Scarve which was a awesome french band. The band has been disbanded for quite a bit, when the drummer Dirk Vanbeuren and guitarist Sylvain Coudret joined Soilwork. Dirk Vanbeuren recently joined Megadeth.
3 of the coolest, most down to earth metal musicians I've ever had the pleasure meeting, espically Joe, one of the nicest humans I've ever met, GOJIRA are the truth, L.O.G. aren't too shabby either, sucks Chris is no longer gonna be beating the shit outta the drums anymore tho :(
Well, No Return put out an album in May of this year called Puzzle of life. But I was thinking you might not like The CNK because they have a more industrial sound, but if you do check them out check out their first album called Ultraviloence uber alles, (back then they went by the name Count Nosferatu Kommando and DEFINITLEY check out Antaeus, thats some serious brutal death/black metal!
I bet randy regrets the COBHC tattoo after 2006 when COB started to release mainstream crap. But all the guys in this interview is so fucking awesome. Would kill to hang out with them for a day.
Gojira is fucking amazing! The Way of All Flesh is an excellent album. I just saw them Sunday with In Flames and they fucking killed it! Love them even more after seeing them live
