I don't know why but hearing Korin say "Give em hell Goku" always makes me smile, like it really feels like a town hero being cheered on his way to a big game or something
It sucks he also made Chrono trigger which still doesn't HAVE a PS4 PS5 Switch port and Dragon quest 3's remake doesn't have a release date and Toriyama helped make all of the Dragon quest games as well.
Isn't it crazy. How we have watched Goku and the others grow from saving energy by not flying. To being able to fly in their sleep with no energy loss.
When Goku is heading out from Kami and Mr. Popo he's saying "I gotta go save the world" which is interesting because in the Japanese version he's saying "training went great". This really highlights the difference between how the two versions portray Goku. In the Japanese version Goku is simply a guy who wants to get stronger and keep fighting while in the western version he's more of a hero. I've watched an interesting video by Sho Araiba where he explains that in Japanese society the ideal person isn't a hero who's trying to save the world but someone who's aspiring to get better at what they do best. Someone who doesn't concern themselves too much with world-scale problems. This is not the case in western society AT ALL.
Yeah, but it's easy for someone like myself to mistake that as selfishness, when really, Goku is a selfless Hero at heart, but he balances it out by caring about himself too like any person should. He is a hero, but he doesn't go out of his way to fight evil since he has his own life to live.
That isn’t a bad thing either, that is simply another interpretation of goku. Besides, goku being a hero isn’t a fault to the character because through his actions he is a hero, he just isn’t actively going after the statue of hero most of the time but he still has many heroic deeds. Dub goku is still a heck of a lot more selfish then Superman and Japanese goku isn’t as selfish as you like to believe, he’s simply flawed which is a given for all people regardless of whether they’re hero’s or not.
1:41 I bet if Goku stuck around more he could have taught Gohan to catch half as good as he does, I mean falling at terminal velocity upside down while talking that's some skill.
@@WindyREDPanda you don't have to use logical gymnastics to come up with a theory DB legit had jugs full. thousands of beans just sitting there. and certainly no shelf life. And the beans didn't heal you, they were more like a 3 course meal, Willy Wonka stlye. the moment the beans were retconned to heal you, they became too powerful and thus the supply diminished to a mere handful at any given time with no real explanation. This is a general theme in dbz where ideas comes and go. Take the saiyan power boosts. They suddenly became a huge deal during the Namek saga where goku and vegeta were getting like 10x power boosts. (gokus boost from his power level fighting Ginyu vs Freiza is massive, easily 10 times stronger) But that's not sustainable as a plot device to the power boosts just sorta vanished (till perfect cell uses it again to become Super Perfect Cell and even that's not that huge a power up)
@@stevesmith1383 Actually the power boosts were used again in the TOP. Goku got over hundreds of times stronger during only 48 minutes. Aka Kaioken blue goku who got slapped by a barely trying jiren to doing better than UI omen goku.
Rest in peace Akira Toriyama. Hope you have a nice time on snake way and in Other Wold. Thanks for everything, thanks for a wonderful childhood. We'll miss you 🫡
While it's officially the first Saga of DBZ, to me Saiyan Saga felt more the last Saga of the original Dragonball. It had the same feel and completed many story arcs from it. It felt different from there especially after the first half of Namek.
@@user-cf6fo6bj1u dunno if this is in the dub or not but the narrator does say something along the lines of… "everyone had forgotten the boy who defeated piccolo daimao, the world had forgotten the man who defeated the saiyajin and freeza, *_the world had forgotten son goku"_* while goku and gohan are training in the room of spirit and time (hyperbolic time chamber in the dub)
For me, this will be like the last Saga of OG, because Goku is fighting the other two major villains (sans Raditz) who will later became part of Z-Fighters. By the time when Frieza Saga started, this will be like standard Z as the fight starting to get more intense.
The Saiyan Saga still feels like OG DB because it was a combination of power, skill, wisdom and technique. It wasn't just all about power levels and transformations. Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta were strong but within reason. The power they had could realistically be obtained by all the Z fighters in theory if they trained enough (They surpassed Raditz). Once Frieza and the Super Saiyan were introduced though it was never the same. An impossible gap of power began and everything was about transformations leaving everything else behind.
Man I'm being hit with too much nostalgia too fast here. I still remember how long it took him to get through snake way the first time. I remember being genuinely confused as to how he would get past it again in a reasonable time. I assumed we'd have to go through alla the hijinks again. Only for this to happen. Friggin Goku BLITZING through it basically within no time at all. My jaw was on the floor. Now he just teleports straight to the end....
I prefer Falcouners synth to the odd 70s kungh fuish of the original. As 0Josed mentioned his character themes are fantastic vegeta, piccolo and cells being ones I loved
@@WindyREDPanda well people have opinions, in some scenes it fits very good, in others it doesn’t, like this scene, the Japanese version is much better
All these years later, and this whole segment is still suspenseful as shit. I remember when I watched this first time and I was like "HURRY UP GOKU GET THERE!" And i still do that to this day
No dbz saga put me in more suspense than the saiyan saga did as a kid I have memories of watching the saiyan saga before school in absolute panic that goku wasn't going to arrive in time to save gohan and krillin I sometimes don't appreciate the saiyan saga enough as it was always on repeat when I was a kid but now I appreciate it for what it was a absolute work of art FLY NIMBUS FASTER !
And then one episode after this arc Mr. Popo shows the ability to instantly teleport anywhere on Earth. Hell, I don't even think Nappa or Vegeta would endanger Popo. They'd probably just be like "Finally, someone with some pep in their step! Now piss off, we're gonna kill Kakarot!"
It took him so long to get to the end of snake way and LORD was he hauling some serious ass the way back. I’ve never seen a more impressive bolt anywhere else except when goku learns cheat codes and instant transmission😂
This brings back memories, The excitemet when goku arrive knowing the fight with the saiyan will be even. Its not just his friend waitng for him to arrive the audince is very much to it. RIP Toriyama
I'm glad people gets to choose between which music that plays on the Blu-Ray and DVD release. I got into Dragon Ball really late, I didn't start watching the anime until after playing a little bit of the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot video game. And that game uses modernized and remixed versions of the original Japanese soundtrack. So for me the American soundtrack just doesn't fit as well and kinda ruin consistency for me. Although I do think some of the songs from the soundtrack is good, I don't always think it really fits with the anime.
Maybe it was a special ability only kami could do, unlike yardrat transmission. Also, maybe it's only able to teleport him to the other world and back(just like baba)
The look on the big guy at the checking station (forgot his name) does it for me. So funny. He's like- who the hell is that guy and how did he return so fast?!
@@Eric6761 yeah I meant that he's surprised to see him i guess i mean before goku nobody went all the way and back on the snakeway (and which such speed...) right?
I always thought it might have been faster if he jumped off snake way and used that secret passageway that took him to the check in station via king yemma’s desk
@@tamarito5538look at a goofy show like one piece where all the female characters got inflated tits with big asses that always seem to pop out even in the most dire situations, its fucking sellot behavior
When i was kid i was fed up z fighters getting beatenup by nappa i was so eager to watch the real hero to arrive!!! Still didn't forget the excitement i had returning back from school atleast today goku will join the battle
What is the name of this song?TUT It brought happy tears to my eyes watching this again yesterday after nearly 15 years since I first started DB, then Dbz, Now I just wanna listen to the soundtracks. But What's the name of this song?! When goku returns to earth and meets up with korin
Ah, nothing beats watching the DVD Funimation dub of the DBZ Sayian saga with the OG Japanese music. (I can’t wait for people to reply saying I’m “wrong” and that “Bruce Faulconer did the better music” when he didn’t even do this re-dub season. The honor goes to revolutionary state senator that somehow was also a musician, Nathan Johnson.)
"Its the chicken station... "Its the kitchen station... Hurry up Goku, it's time eat. Goku: Here I am, I made it. I am ready to eat. Oh shit, it's just the check in station. No problem, let's go to Korin and eat a senzu bean.
