You forgot Chi Chi was also able to ride the Nimbus cloud when the two of them met, that distinction has always been what proved to me that she and Goku are perfect for each other.
She still could after they got engaged when they went on those filler adventures after the tournament, unlike Bulma who could never ride the Nimbus Cloud .
@@minhkhai5614 she did ride the Nimbus when Goku and Krillin were taking her to Master Roshi's place. Krillin had to hold to Goku in order to stay on the cloud but Launch was just sitting on the cloud with no problem, at least with the purple hair.
The best things about Goku is that he always moves towards improving himself w/o malice, on top of encouraging others to do the same. Something most people should try to do.
People always complain about characters like goku and superman not being relatable and then proceed to bandwagon on the vegeta batman train cause "they have a dark side" , but honestly I always found myself relating much more to goku than anyone else. Just a simple dude who wants to become the best version of himself and doesnt like seeing others get wronged. Very simple and honestly very much like myself and thats why I love em.
I wouldn't want Goku any other way! I always felt like he'd be the easiest to get along with and hang around since anyone can be their honest self with him. No judgments, just acceptance.
I know this is old, but you cannot compare Superman to Goku. They are complete opposites in concepts. People don't hate on Superman because he's an uncorruptable good guy. If that were true, people would hate on Spider-Man too. People hate on Superman because he's perfect and has no limits or weaknesses (aside from the obvious rock). Goku is a person who always has limits, but his will and drive to succeed allows him to break those limits.
Makes sense that Goku achieved an enlightened fighting state(UI) while Vegeta's new mode hints toward him becoming a god of destruction. Goku is enlightened. Vegeta is on his own path towards enlightenment yet his pride may hinder him.
@@jackjacques7495 "His own" Path. There isn't one correct answer to enlightenment. Each person has to find their own way with the cards they have. So for Vegeta becoming a Destruction God would be his enlightenment or "The most powerful person in the universe"
Now that I think about it, Goku may not be a traditional hero but he is the type of hero you would see in Greek mythology. One of the reasons why he's my favourite character.
Ima say it. This might be my favorite video of yours. Not only am I getting an in-depth look at the character of Goku but I am also getting rich information on a culture that I am not familiar with this shit is Gold. This damn video is inspiring ...it motivates me to make better content myself. Even thoe THAT wasn't the intent but you did a hell of a job with this!
You’re 100% right on the pure hearted thing we are all Pure from. I love how as we get older we realize Dragon Ball correlates to the spiritual realm, Good vs Evil
@@ryanr20091 It has a meaning if it's used for courts purposes. If not, then what's the point of courts? Murder is a precise term. It has a narrow definition.
If one of Toriyama's goals was for Goku to maybe appear as if he might not be a good guy then I think he failed. Goku is shown from the beginning to have some sort of altruistic nature from the outset through his actions.
@@General_Lee439 a lot of what toriyama says now contradicts what he wrote...he wrote goku to be one with nature make others change on his side and to be a role model..he's the opposite to blooma...whose bad at first....now can he be a better dad friend and defender protector sure but he's not that bad like toriyama clams...he has his faults but so do we all..it makes him relatable
Goku is the hero...he's the protag..he's the japan superman even if he does not want to be...he inspired other main heroes in other mangas....he is static flat in his personality...he changes others he rarely changes...that's the point...sure he has some negative aspects but the good outweighs the bad
This is an awesome breakdown bro. And i especially dig how you took the time to add in a moment to let the people acknowledge and give them a chance to reflect upon themselves..... I've held dear to this hope of purity as a person since my childhood and I have learned a tremendous deal of growth and release over the years and have observed MANY patterns and breakdowns from those observations that I use to help others now that I am a lil bit older. If you or anyone ever need someone to talk to or help process stuff, let me know. It would be to God's glory to see people be restored and healed... much love bro
Great editing and commentary. Also good inclusion of maslow's theory in the discussion. Geekdom you deserve all the success you receive. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of content in the video. keep up the good work
I was always intrigued by who made DBZ. It was masterly thought out. It invoked so many emotions in young people. The way Goku got power from being a hero of humanity and digging deep no matter what, especially against all odds. Very well thought out concept of character Goku! Unbelievably iconic! Never ever gonna be surpassed by any cartoon in the present and future.
Killing as a last resort and in self-defence isn't really murder. And considering who Frieza is, how evil he is, it might even be unethical for Goku _not_ to kill Frieza in that moment on Namek. He's just too dangerous to be kept alive.
It is murder doesn’t mean you just go and kill someone murder is murder no matter what circumstance it just makes a murder justified murder is the act of killing another nothing more nothing less if it was an accident it would be manslaughter
toriyama keeps saying goku isn't really a good guy, but goku was aways a good person, his desire to fight stronger oponents made him do some weird stuff but he was aways concerned in protecting his planet and his people
I think he was interpreting it as Goku is not a super hero but a guy who just does heroic things while pursuing his selfish desires to fight strong opponents.
It got real deep at the end there, I feel that man really inspiring to hear it from you. Personally I can relate with Gohan a lot growing up moreso than Vegeta or Goku.. not really naturally a fighter but over the last 2 years decided to commit to training for a powerlifting meet, surround myself with good people & find mentors. Something like Piccolo training Gohan for the Saiyans coming to earth but more voluntary
I've been waiting for this video for weeks ever since you've mentioned it on Twitter! It was super interesting, but the last couple of minutes really resonated with me. Thanks for the video, this was my favorite you've ever done!
Man, that was perfect! Such a great search and information. I make almost the same research that you did on the video, even about the Star Wars similarity. I used it for a college philosophy test, unhappy to me I lost the work because after that, my pc have many problems... anyway. It doesn't matter much now, because you make this amazing video! And more, in my analogy, I also mention others things beyond Goku's innocence. Vegeta's pride as warrior; Bulma's arrogance as a brilliant scientist and others. If you search you I'll see much more in any character of DB, DBZ and Super. Hope you make more videos about character 'hidden-philosophy', I love this type of content. Cheers! :D
So that explains Vegeta, Vegeta was born into his primal saiyan heritage and instincts, so he was in his pure nature a prideful super elite warrior, that he was born as So Vegeta being able to turn Super Saiyan taps into him being pure of heart he was a pure SAIYAN that was broken down to the point of him realizing he was actually weaker than Goku all of his insecurities turned into truths and his heart became pure, thus the transformation
I disagree, it seems like the initial SSJ transformations are usually triggered by loss and rage. Goku lost Krillin, Future Trunks lost Future Gohan, and Gohan feared losing his friends. In Vegeta’s case, he lost himself. Moments before he turn SSJ, he gave up on being a SSJ and better than being Goku and that rage of losing his purpose in life triggered him to SSJ. That’s my take on it.
@@Demoniserx3 yeah but u gotta be pure heart to unlock it because back in saiyan saga through namek saga Vegeta was evil and didn't have pure heart yet that's the reason he couldn't transformed into a ssj. By the time he spend on earth with bulma he started to feel something good then outer space he unlocked it because of pure heart with rage.
Tatsuo Static yes he's stated that multiple times. Most recently in Super with his fight with Beerus and when he recutied andriod 17, and a had that one on one with Frieza.
Tatsuo Static yet his wife's grocery list to feed Goku for a week or 2 all the animal meats to sustain Goku, could feed a regular family for a year or more .
Because we all want to see innocent people and animals to suffer. That's not a unique quality of Goku, you could say the same about other protagonists.
Which is why I think the next level in his journey is to go full Plant-based Vegan 🌱 in his life! Think about it, in super Gokus first ever job is as a farmer for his family. But he doesn't have cows or chickens or shit like that. He grows vegetables and fruits and SELLS them to a local market! (I didn't make this up go back in look in super) Also, he even mentions his love for ALL creatures even animals on the planet during his talk with 17 before the tournament. Goku is becoming more and more awesome everyday! 🌏✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻✊️
Goku's 'good' nature seems to come down a lot concept of that he wants to fight strong guys, but that only extends to those that actually want to fight or can fight. He has no desire for conquest or domination over those weaker then himself. He see no benefit in harming those who choose not to fight nor does he look down on those that choose not to.
Most people who "hate" him are angry manchilds that don't actually get his character, and just want to see someone cursing and murdering enemies left and right. He's not Human, he's not normal. Goku isn't perfect which should make him more appealing, but since this fanbase has already been divided by those who are butthurt & blame Goku for the fact that their favorite characters don't get more attention, its impossible for them to understand.
Great message in this video, something I've been thinking about for a while, what is a "pure" heart and why do we become jaded? I've always had a good grasp on this because I've honestly been told I'm an old soul (wise beyond my years, etc) but it's nice to have some discussion on it. Thanks for posting
yeah..he look into the deep of art itself not just making a random theories and not look at the surface alone. sadly the responses in the comment section really dissapointing. Pretty much describe what this fandom truly are
Igaf what anyone says I love ALL the characters in dragon ball, they all bring something different so thats why I can never understand why hate certain ones over others, it's just stupid
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” “In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!” “And he said, 'O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage..
I've always been under the impression that people that are "pure of heart" can make mistakes or to bad things. Just as a "good person" can make mistakes.
In my opinion,Goku is a good person, hes a perfect guy, he even gave Frieza some Ki when hes was fighting Frieza, and gave him mercy, but the bad guys doesn't want his mercy and wanted to kill Goku instead, so thats why Goku has no choice but to kill them
ChronosLawliet123 He has a pure heart of evil. He was created only to destroy and cause pain. But yeah, the fact that he doesn't exactly realize that what he's doing is bad makes your point valid
ChronosLawliet123 Kid Buu was a Psychopathic sadist who took pleasure in causing pain to others. That also made him unpredictable and more dangerous. And he was pure evil because didn’t want to change.
Nah, I think it counts. Whenever people use the term Pure, the additional context is often left out. "Only a person pure of heart can ride this cloud." Pure "what"? Pure hatred? Pure stupidity? Pure ignorance? There wasn't any real stipulation.. It just said pure. Could I put my 100% juice on this cloud? Because it is purely made of juice?
This video was absolutely amazing Geekdom I expected nothing less. It was very insightful into eastern philosophies and the character development of Goku Vegeta and (to a lesser degree) Krillin probably your best made and researched video. Just show this video to people who say you only do DBS spoilers😅
Ever Since The Black Goku Arc I Always Thought The Goku Black Character Was Toriyama Telling Us "This Is What Goku Would Be Like If He Didn't Hit His Head", Guess I Was Wrong
Great insight. I totally reccommend Derek Padula's Dragon Ball book series. Dude explains the philosophy of the original Dragon Ball series. Every DB fan will love his books - they are fucking treasure!
I love it when you talk about the old Chinese concepts that influenced Dragon Ball. I see all the other youtubers focus only on the fighting and transformations (which is also great) and leave out all of these important elements of the series. Especially when a lot of them haven't even seen the original series, therefore not knowing how important it is to Z and Super. That's what makes you the best Dragon Ball youtuber.
This video was great Geekdom! My only ONE critic I have to say is that TECHNICALLY speaking Goku was actually sent to Earth to destroy it. That's who he naturally is but he bumped his head and that kinda made him the naive Saiyan we know and love today. So to revert back to natural state would mean he would want to destroy Earth.
Mike-Eze For the manga yeah, but the anime has it's own version of events. I say this because the manga doesn't have all those flashbacks to baby Goku that we see in the anime. Also, even if he recovered the memories and instincts he had before he hit his head that doesn't mean it would negate all the memories and experiences he's lived through till now, if anything it might make Goku a bit more like Vegeta in attitude, or Bardock, but it wouldn't make him an insta bad guy or something, you'd have to suppress his recent memories and leave the older ones in control for that.
Just wanted to say you are awesome and it has been a privilege to be able to talk to you and hear your opinions on my questions even if just in super chat.
So being pure of heart as well as innocent is the result of naivety with a bit of ignorance huh? (which obviously leads to being gullible as well as impressionable). Wouldn't Buu (good) and Zeno fit that bill too?.
Good video geekdom101. I liked how you referee vegeta to our own problems and struggles. We all have them. But it goes to show that as evil as the world is, there's always good my man.
Geekdom take some time to think about this. In the preview, Jiren was getting effortlessy pushed back by Goku. However, Jiren has been pushed to a point where he reveals his hidden power and his boost in power and ki blew Goku away, that would be him breaking his limits. It seems all hope is lost, but there Goku is, behind Jiren undamaged. They throw hands for a while, but Goku has the upper hand in pushes Jiren to the edge once again, which is why he looks so frustrated and Goku WILL attempt to finish it off, but right in front of Jiren, he runs out of stamina.
Goku's pure heart and love of getting better is why he is my hero, and as an extremely competitive person it takes a lot for me to hold someone as a hero.
Goku only murdered Son Gohan (Grandpa) during an Oozaru rampage. The others you cited (like Buu) he just killed. Theres a difference between a killer and a murderer.
