Not really. So long as you obtain the first Super Saiyan form and become a Great Ape then transform into a SSJ you can become a SSJ4. 2 and 3 are not required. Remember, it has the name Super Saiyan 4 but there's evidence to suggest it's an entirely different branch of power since it's not obtained in the usual manner like SSJ2 and SSJ3.

Seriously the greatest OST in Anime history. I'm nearly 40, a total boomer.. watched GT as it aired while I was in Japan. So many years have passed and this soundtrack is still godtier. There's not a single weak track.
This song makes me think of when Goku was in GT. He was beat up by baby, and he's looking at earth, remembering all the good times with friends and family. And he doesn't want to lose the love, or any of them. So he feels the strength rising, and a he becomes an Oozaru, he has like a deep inner reflection of everything he is, and what he wants, and he finally tames the power and becomes complete again.

When you think about everything Dragon Ball embodies. Goku's journey culminates with Super Saiyan 4. His return to his roots, the thing that made him unique, is what gives him the ultimate power. Everything about the Saiyans and how they works builds up to Super Saiyan 4. It represents them in a way that rivals even the original Super Saiyan. Super Saiyan 4 is a special thing that is still revered to this day. We don't hold Blue in the same light whatsoever, and it doesn't feel as grand as Super Saiyan 4. The primal form of the Saiyans condensed into a power, and form that is unlike all the others, and it's brilliant. Even the biggest haters of GT typically acknowledge Super Saiyan 4 as being really good, and I think that says a lot.
Hell yeah bro, you got everything right. This is how I feel as well, these modern transformations can't hold a candle to the epic moments from DBZ and (some) GT. Because they can't relate, they're not in-tune with the saiyan mentality/theme with which the show began and that got us hooked. Nowadays Dbz is a shadow of its former self

They really captured the "END" feeling in DBGT. you really felt like this was the last adventure, the last run, they're last transformation and peak form. Theyre was no "after this". This was where it all ended.
This ending really reminds of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. When we all had adventures from Part 1-5, just like DB-DBZ, then it had a bitter yet sweet true ending in Part 6 just like GT. It made it feel like a "True Ending" and then Super comes.... damn
"SSJ4 to say how badass it looks, the theme is so peaceful as if goku had reached the pinnacle of what saiyans could be and that he could finally put down the life of constantly fighting for protection as he knew he could beat anyone who opposed him . That's the beauty of it. The juxtaposition of the serious looks and intimidating stare with the calm and collected music say it is more powerful than just showing it. But thats the theme isn't it? It's meant to be beautiful. Goku had always fought on the side of life, even when it came to the most ruthless bastards in the universe, he offered to spare Frieza, responsible for destroying his home planet and almost all of his race even after killing his best friend from childhood. That's the kind of person goku is and the theme just says that without having to have a single lyric. Not only that but the fact that it stems from the Oozaru form, the most uncontrollable form a saiyan has for this to have such calm music over it is something you can't quite describe. All of the untapped power he finally harnessed and used it to be the best he could be. DBGT was poorly written yes however you can't deny that behind all that there are some genuine good moments that feel like Z. Nothing will beat Z in my opinion, super doesn't come close but GT is somewhere grounded near it. The fact that it wasn't about being close to gods. It was grounded in reality where he would have to push his body and mind to the limit to even have a shot at beating someone as powerful as baby vegeta or even omega shenron It was a time where Super Saiyan meant something. Not a stepping stone to somewhere that can't be quantified. GT did the "God" transformation perfectly, where for the first time it wasn't "He'll just scream and get a new power" it was the fact he had to delve back into his roots and embrace his saiyan heritage and his upbringing on earth to access this. Something that super saiyan was never about, it was something fresh, going from oozaru to super oozaru and then finally super saiyan 4." -A friend.

DBGT is better than super, unlike Super GT doesn't try to retcon fundamental things and it adds to What was already part of Dragon ball like the tail being required to keep Kid Goku's power easier to manage, GT did so much better than Super and still it gets considered as terrible and considered non-canon despite Toriyama's association with character designs, superior animation and an overall amazing story and it didn't depend on Super saiyan transformations and it only introduced 1 transformation SSJ4 (SSJ Great ape was seen in a flashback in DBZ), and it only used super saiyan way into the show show Goku has become so much more powerful, and Pan never goes super saiyan to show that Quarter Saiyan Children are very powerful something Dragon Ball Super also remembers, to say the least GT does less wrong than super

SsJ 4 (super saiyan primal as I call it.) is my favorite SsJ form.....and nothing will change that. The pure raw potential, the extremely different design from any other Saiyan form, and not to mention in my opinion it makes Gogeata worth it.

This is the best transformation moment, with SSJ1 is really epic, you can feel Goku´s anger towards Frieza, SSJ Transformation was really underwhelming for Goku (But great for Gohan), SSJ3 was also pretty great, all that buildup was borderline funny but the payoff was nice. But with SSJ4 you get a very introspective moment, Goku´s now has to control and channel his anger to return from Oozaru form, then, he slowly walks, looks at himself, the mirror breaks, almost as if Goku didn´t recognize himself, but you can feel he´s confident and mature, I say that despite being a kid in most of GT, you can truly feel he matured and changed for good, while in Super he´s even more immature than before in some moments.

Agree! I would excuse Ssj2, since it wasn’t really meant as a new transformation when it was introduced. It was just Gohan’s latent power - that he had always had - mixed with his Super Saiyan form. Which means, by definition, it was a form only Gohan could reach, and he’s the only one for whom it really means something. For the other Saiyans, it’s just Ssj with some lightning on it.
Without Toriyama, we wouldn’t have dragon ball, and the huge impact that it embedded within the world. We wouldn’t have had most animes, and most importantly of all, we wouldn’t have had those nostalgic memories, growing up. we all have to say goodbye to the greatest saiyan that ever lived. he gave his life to save us all and now he trains in the heavens with shenron. we will always miss his smile and charming personality but the greatest thing about him was his pure heart and able to show mercy. farewell Goku and train to keep your loved ones alive.
This only plays when Goku first turned into SSJ4, and it's unique. It has a sad tune for the struggle he had to overcome along with Pan's effort and tears. In the end, Goku succeeded, but not without tough challenge. This theme fits it really well.

my point was that Super still doesn't have a conflict against the end of Z as far as the history is going, hence much less on GT. Super occurs between Boo and Pan having 6'ish years old at the end of Z in the tournament. Unless they keep Kibito and Kaioshin defused until the end, only then i'm gonna recognize GT as an - alternate universe XD -

Its good ss4 returned in db heros ss4 when first introduced gave us everyting even goku and vegetas eyebrows zi hope db comes back with more and i want real goku and vegeta to learn ss4 transformation i wish they could add some good ki to it
Hey guys, if anyone is reading this I just want you all to know: even though alot of us have never met each other, we are still Dragon Ball fans. We all have our likes and dislikes, again we are DB fans through and through. Even when this series becomes old and has ended, we'll all look back at this amazing series. This is apart of our childhood/adulthood, this is nostalgia. Our love will never die, I wish you all the best of luck for you all. This is where dragon ball really ended. The rest was made because Akira Toriyama saw that dragon ball was still popular thanks to fananimations and what he made with super just doesn’t feel like dragon ball and that’s why it will never even come close to DBZ & DBGT.
It's crazy how different a melody can sound so different depending upon the arrangement. The opening is uplifting and joyous whereas this is calm and somber with a hint of sadness.

This just solidifies my belief that SSJ4 Goku is the most powerful version of Goku. This is the form that truly showcases his immense strength, and it's a shame that it's not given the respect it deserves. You have to remember, base Goku in GT literally blew up a dimension with his basic Kamehameha, this just shows how much more powerful GT is compared to Super. And SSJ4 Goku takes it to another level, it's not just about raw power, but also about the level of control and mastery over that power. And yet, all these so-called "Goku fans" continue to push their DBS Super nonsense, like it's somehow comparable to GT. It's an insult to the true form of Goku and it's time to wake up and see the truth about the ultimate form of Goku, SSJ4. The GT series is a masterpiece and it should be respected as such, not just because of SSJ4 but for everything it has to offer.
(Base GT Goku literally blew up a dimension -- in Super, it took Gogeta and LSSJ Broly TOGETHER to achieve the same feat. In the Buu Saga, it took every bit of Super Buu's power to just create a small hole to TRAVEL through a dimension, he didn't destroy it unlike the other characters I mentioned. So yeah, that's how insanely powerful base GT Goku is).

I love this theme so much. Everyone says "it's not intense enough" well first off it's not supposed to be this was it this was goku's final form this is the ultimate form (stronger than the God forms in my opinion). This form was the beacon of hope. Baby had gotten and taken everything from goku and earth and it made him lose his mind for this beautiful transformation. This theme is him appearing after regaining his mind it's all over from here. Everything is ok. Baby is a dead man from that point on and so are the shadow dragons (*coughs* and super 17 but he dont count *cough*). All in all this was such a perfect theme for the last form in dragonball
This form is not stronger than the god forms... but still this is exactly how it’s is described! The final form of goku that has taken ever so long to achieve, and through his perilous journey he finally achieved the ultimate saiyan form.... the end
