Fabi A. I don't know about the Manga, but in the Anime it has never shown what his powers actually are. You never actually see him fight. As for anyone that could compare... There were only two people in the entire world that could fight him on par. Those two were Whitebeard, which is why after Roger died, even in his old, weakend, and sickly state, Whitebeard was still called the Strongest Man in the world. That and his Quake-Quake Fruit, the most deadly of all fruit, for it can destroy the whole world. The second was Garp. That is why Garp is so famious and respected, he is the most powerful Marine, stronger than the Admirals, and the only Marine to go par on par with Roger. The difference is, Garp doesn't have a Devil Fruit, unlike Whitebeard who does. In my opinion, that makes Garp stronger than Whitebeard.

Simon Rooijakkers There are a few reasons I think, and I don't know if it's ever actually flat out stated or explained in the show. But I can give a few reasons. He died before Ace was born. He didn't even put up a fight or anything, he turned himself in. I think it was revealed he was sick and dieing, but I don't know if Ace ever knew that or cared. Next is Ace's mother. The world Government went all around the world and looked for babies being born past his death. Hunting and looking for any children he might have left behind. To get past this event, to make sure Ace would live, She held off his birth (somehow) for over twenty months to fool the world governments into thinking that no way that could be Rogers son. However, because of this she died after giving birth. Because of his father, his mother also left him before he could knew her, leaving him with Garp. There is also the pressure of Roger's Legacy. He was the Pirate King, the strongest man in the world, hated by all common folk and the world government. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if He was the Number 1 wanted criminal in the world when he was alive, instead of Luffy's father Dragon, leader of the Revolutionary Army. But anyways, Roger was all that, and Ace was HIS son. That puts a very big shadow on a child. Then there is Whitebeard. When Ace left as a teen or young adult, he founded his own crew like Luffy. However, when he came across Whitebeard, he killed all of Ace's crewmen. But instead of killing Ace, took him in his crew. Ace tried to surprise and kill him all the time, of course, but was always treated as a Son by Whitebeard. And over time, Whitebeard actually viewed him as his own flesh and blood son. Ace eventually warmed up to Whitebeard, finally seeing him as the Dad he never had. And with that, he got the desire to make Whitebeard the King of the Pirates. Whitebeard however, wanted to make Ace the King of the Pirates, something Ace truely hated, as that was what Roger was, and would be following in Roger's footsteps and Legacy, something he really hated. --- Any one of those is enough for him to hate Roger. Any combination too. Like I said, I don't think it's ever stated or explained why, but there are hints and motives pointing to what the reason could be.
