3 years later, I just purchased the new huge gold claw and it handles large rocks well. You can put half of a 5 gallon bucket in it. You would love the large model.

Thank you for using it properly. I got one a couple months ago and have been practicing in my garage, winter here. I've seen other vids of people trying to use them but all revert to traditional panning methods then complain about the claw. You tossed it all out, had thoughts of how strange it seemed, but gave it a go as it was meant to be used and it was great to watch.

Hey Chris - I bought one of those (in pink) for my 11 yo girl who was struggling with a traditional pan. She kills it with the gold claw (which she has nicknamed The Pink PanTher). I also use it for cleanups, because those fine ruffles at the small side are brilliant for getting rid of the black dust. Best technique is to go side to side *underwater* (ie keep the dirt under water). I switch to single handed use once I get to about 45 degree angle and slowly get the dirt going over the edge. I then resubmerge the whole thing, keeping it horizontal, and tap the back with my knuckle (towards the big riffles) which has any gold going back into the pan. It’s fantastic!

Vo-Gus Prospecting other things I like about it - you don’t need to “clean up” 100 % each time, we just pour it into a bucket (that’s hard to do with my turbo pan) - clean up out the side with the micro riffles (left hand side?) works well - once you have the gold only, it’s easy to run it straight into a vial along one of the corners by using your finger.

omg there a great pann. got mine this week. took it to a mates last night. he had old panning tailings what had high clay content in it. pannid out ice cream container pritty slow to see of we missed anything panning. and try the new gold claw when finished the 1st pann had heaps of really small gold flower that we lost. panned the rest off slow after seeing that and got over 0.1 point of 200 size mesh and even finer. ill email you a pic later 👍great pann thanks for showin us.

Wow. Excellent video. Honest review. I'll be looking forward to the future of this product. I say the future because not only what you have mentioned about not being able to use sieves already on the market and needing its own special sieve but the size. Size is an issue. I know i'm not the only prospector who looks at it and thinks it's small. Too small. I'm thinking, "okay, the prototype is pretty neat now where is the production model"? I'm sure if they increased the size by 100 percent that many prospectors would be willing to take another look. Take it from a novelty toy to a prospecting tool. Oh, I also agree with you on the open sides being a problem. This product has great potential. They didn't think it through before they pushed it into production. They have made their molds and invested a lot of money in it. They will not be willing to make changes anytime soon. It's a shame. We miss out on a potentially awesome pan and they miss out on sales. I understand that I am just one prospector out of many and that my opinion does not speak for us all but I have a feeling it does speak for many. I hope you found my thoughts entertaining. Have a great day. Happy prospecting my friends. '

We in the USA would shovel the dirt in to a classifier screen over a 5 gallon bucket to get rid of the big parts, then we would pan through the smaller gravel sands from the full bucket. So no need to have a custom classifier made. Just not how your thinking of using it, because that's not you current system. Now use it to clean up the cons you get from the Croc gold traps, and your in a speed system. I have a few up dates to do on a Croc even, like two drop riffles in the front before the grizzly to get the nuggets that are larger. And some others.......
@VoGusProspecting
@VoGusProspecting 6 лет назад
Richard O'connor I hear what your saying. But a classifier that fits this pan would increase the speed of classifying and you wouldn't be hiking in extra equipment such as a big classifier and buckets.
@richardoconnor7162
@richardoconnor7162 6 лет назад
We carry all our gear in the bucket, plus you can sit on it to get closer to the water as at 6'2" it along sore back to lean down to pan. Ok take a bucket and cut it, then use a heat gun to shape it , to the pan. You put the screen in it, then cut the bucket lower to make a retaining ring to pinch the screen in place. Then rivet them together, custom job but easy to do. If you watch Dan Hurd, he will show you how to make an easy one, from there you can just shape the rings to fit the pan.

I classify with my hand old school and because i dont muck around with anything but paydirt and my pan i can process faster than anybody ive ever come across on the feild . But then there is my Cresswell's mini gold concentrator that ive had for nearly 20 years now. That is a product worth a Reveiw that is in the top ten best gold minning inventions of all time in my opinion, including pan,longtom sluice, rockers cradles jack hammer dynamite bulldozers, Excavators CRESSWELL'S MGC.

it looks like if you drop it onto a rock, it would break. i agree that if the edges on the large riffles were closed, it might work better (and would be stronger). i would like the first riffle on the other side to be longer (less chance to lose gold). i don't backpack any more (too old). i do go short distances to hard to get to streams, but i carry everything in either a bucket or my hands. i can see this pan getting smashed in a backpack. however, it would fit into a bucket easier than the garrett super sluice i love. i wouldn't worry so much about classifying normally because i carry a bucket and usually a classifier, sometimes two buckets -- one small to pitch water into the large bucket to clean it out into the gold pan. i've never carried a sluice when prospecting yet, but have once towed a trommel on wheels with battery, pump with hose, shovel, bucket, scoop, snuffer, and crevice tool a half mile up a rocky creek that wasn't very steep (got gold, but it was a pain towing all that by hand). conclusion; i'd buy this pan and make modifications to it to try it out. then give it away if i didn't like it...which is what i will do with the turbopan that i hate.

Nice Chris, I watched video's on this pan when they first came out, at the end what they did was level the pan and tap the end of the pan that is opposite the cons, and the gold ran towards the tap if that helps.
@VoGusProspecting
@VoGusProspecting 6 лет назад
Lenblacksmith I watch them too. But doing that on a creek is different to their test setting. Tapping proved quite difficult, it was easier to submerg it, tilt it back and shuffle

Fair enough Chris, doing it in a creek shouldn't matter, you got a pan water and dirt, have a nice seat somewhere and go for it, tap just like you would in a normal pan, the yanks call it the....'Blueberry Bump' haha anyway good on ya and great review cobber.

Hey Chris VoGus Prospecting. What made you review the Gold claw, instead of some other pan? What are your thoughts on the turbo pan? Pyramid pan? Why the gold claw over these others? I have had a serious interest in the Gold Hog line of pans, first the Hog Pan and now the Flow Pan. Both very interesting and look to be able to move massive amounts of dirt with no classification and great gold capture. Just wondering why the Gold Claw over the many other pans...Banjo Pan by Mike Pung, gold cube creator...the list goes on...thoughts? Just curious. As always loved the videos. Much love for California.

Excellent review Chris. Personally I wonder if the bright Pink would be too bright on the eyes. I think as men in a modern society we are over the 'Pink is for Girls' crap, but it does look like it would be a bit too much to look at in the sun. I read in one of your replies you said it comes in Blue also. Hopefully a dark blue, not a shiny bright blue to affect our eyes in the sun. If the idea behind the Pink is to sell it to Women, maybe they could use a darker Pink or a Purple so the gold shows better and it isn't as bright to look at in direct sunlight. Cheers Ken. EDIT: I just saw the website for them. They comes in several colours. There is a Purple one, and the Blue is dark. But they also come in yellow/gold 😨 and white! 😨 www.golddog.com.au/gold-claw-gold-pans

They were out of blue pans. But that's ok, the pink is ok you just have to take a second to see the gold clearly. Blue and gold are what is called complimentary opposites, blue makes gold stand out. Go my partners art lessons lol

@VoGusProspecting

Jamie Norris its pretty fool proof. I'd say its perfect for begginers but I strongly recommend learning to pan normally as you'll need that too

Is the Gold Claw better than the Garrett Super Sluice or the Turbopan? Noting the Turbopan is another hybrid sluice-pan. I have a Turbopan. I saw it, liked the theory and bought it.
@VoGusProspecting
@VoGusProspecting 6 лет назад
Roger Watts I've used all three. I'd take the Garret to mine because of its large capacity, I'd use the claw to prospect because of its size and speed and the turbo pan sits inbetween

I have the Super Sluice and a Turbopan and the new Garrett Gold Trap. I'm thinking I have too many pans. But I often take friends out with me, so I need to have an extra (one or two) with me.

Hey Chris, love the video . I was wondering if you seasoned that new pink pan before you went for that small gold? it looks really smooth.
@VoGusProspecting
@VoGusProspecting 6 лет назад
bigdaddy4432 no I didn't. I was going to do that because of how smooth it is but in the spirit of testing I wanted to see how idiot proof they were, could an armature miner (who they are advertised at) just pick up and go

Right on, that's good thinking for a review! You definitely proved it works right out of the box. Thx for the video again man, and give Grizzly a big love from the States.

I wouldnt think it would need much seasoning,just a bit of dry creek gravels should do the trick.

I am going to add a negative... Not enough Grizzly face time. I don't think pink would have been my first choice for a color. With gold that fine a darker color would make the viz a lot better. There again, I know NOTHING about prospecting or panning. Which brings me back to more Grizz!

@VoGusProspecting
@VoGusProspecting 6 лет назад
Blair Mckerley I covered this in another video 'Gold mining for profit' In short nothing had changed since the 1880s, there's enough gold here to make a megar living but those who sell the equipment and tours is where the money is.
