Gold Dollars... Thanks for your comments on this Chinese letter opener. I never bothered getting one because I assume they don't hold an edge. For a few bucks more, I can buy a low-end vintage straight razor and hone it myself. The Dollar store sells a nifty DE razor for wet shaving, which outperforms the aforementioned Chinese Junk 🐼

Ife honed 8 gold dollars so far, never had an issue with them not holding an edge, they are not the most refined instrument in terms of looks but the steel is good, and they are cheap,

Great video. Subbed. Martin, what would be your best advice to someone in my case, where as a new honer/old shavette user, I've bought an old Sheffield piece - the 1000 by Taylor's and I'm looking for something new. I've felt obliged to retain the character of it, with its pitting and high toe grind and slightly wonky scales because after its old age and my relatively recent shaving I don't assume to be right to decide what it should be. It's a silly sentiment really, but I'm happy to put it in a draw and bring it out once in a while. Is there anything new I could buy without breaking the bank?

Hi 👋 a good almost always shave ready razor new is a basic Tiers Isard ,the fancy ones look nice but the steels the same . For simple honing go for a minimum 3 stone synthetic progression. Use good quality stones especially for fine grit . Nanawa professional 👌. For a course bevel set a cheaper 1k stone ? if the edge is very damaged or blunted . Ideally 5k to 12k must be high grade stones . Stones are a investment 👌. All the very best ! ( good luck with the Taylor , with a new edge it'll shave OK 👍 )

gold dollar can shave great, but I would not use anything cheaper than 208. the cheaper models seem to have very bad steel, at least what I’ve seen. Beautiful Fili, regards dapper shaves
