Tonight's gold hot spot features Halls Creek. Halls Creek is located in Western Australia in the east Kimberleys.
In 1883 the government set an expedition headed by Forest into the Kimberley with a geologist named Hardman.
Hardman marked on his map several places where gold was likely to be found.
Hall and Slattery found gold first in 1885 in what is now known as Halls Creek. They found a good amount of payable gold and after only a couple of weeks Hall returned to Derby to register the claim with over 200 ounces. Part of that being a 28 ounce nugget found by Hall on Christmas Day between 1885 and 1887.
10 thousand men were on the gold fields in an area that is now known as old halls creek it was an extremely difficult place to be a prospector with many dying on the journey to get there during those two years it is estimated that 23 000 ounces of gold was found in the area.
The Kimberley is one of those must-do experiences in life. It is certainly an area rich in gold but it will be the scenery and the people that will leave you with a lifelong love for the region
