Mr. Jardine just started to research the possibilities of silver and gold in the areas in which I have previously hunted or fished mostly in Central PA. I have much to learn about the smelting process but I am fairly sure I have good instinct as far as reading terrain and water and locating areas that have high probability of high content silver and some gold. I have really started to research 1st vegetation such as vines,mushrooms,poke berries etc . Also have determined that some mountain laurel does not burn meaning the leaves and rather turns to flake silverand the yellow turned leaves turn to brilliant yellow and then to brown thinking there is possible gold content in them. PA has the most rivers and streams in all the 50 and many limestone and quartzed based streams that are very remote and decilate in some areas hard to access and full of mineral deposit and sulfides,sulfates,and telluride. Am amateur at this process but have become passionate about the process of locating and making an educated guess on deposit of silver and gold honestly I believe I have talent for this and no these woods and streams around here probably better than the head of the fish and game commission plus there is no Bush that I can not get through including 12ft tall buck laurel. Need to become more educated on the details of smelting and specific rock formation the mineral differences in color and some old school tricks for say that I am fairly sure u posses. If u could send me the simplest form or instruction or good literature to acclimate my ability to further improve my ability to become a better prospector and smelter. I would gladly take u with me on some adventures in good faith that u would not reveal location and would teach me some of ur tricks and wisdom on the process. I promise u will not be disappointed or broke when u leave I honestly have 7 sites within an 1hour lol so of my house the posses this ♥ minerals, plus u can eat fresh trout and possibly a grouse or whitetail for dinner with me. I need a old school teacher that cuts the bull and gets to the point and gets her done. Please take the time to enhance my ability to better myself in this profession I would greatly appreciate it 🙏 Jeremy is my name 5703940380.

Hi there Alicia and Steve , thanks for watching , i'm glad you enjoyed it , it was done over a long period of time . I'm in the process of making another bit bigger kiln ,hope it turns out OK . Yeah the free mill gold is always easier ,that's why a lot of the old timers didn't bother with the sulfides , too hard and they often walked away from it , but i think it's a lot of fun , but dangerous ,especially with Arsenopyrites , i always put carbon in the roast , to neutralize it just incase , cheers guys and thanks for watching .

Wish I could find a good old boy like you here in southern Oregon I got all the tools and the motivation just need more knowledge my great-grandfather did a lot of the gold panning and processing of I was just too young I remember finding a mason jar full of his Mercury when I was about 7 or 8 just a year or so before he passed away our backyard was full of hundreds probably thousands of different rocks from everywhere he'd been taking samples as a kid it was amazing go back there and find large crystals and agates and thunder eggs if I could have only been a little older and remember all the stories I count myself lucky to remember the little I did and to have known him as long as I did I appreciate you sharing the knowledge you have it's an amazing thing to learn look forward to more videos in the future

Great video. The sulphides go red no because of the iron pan, but rather because the iron pyrites are oxidised from the high temps. And iron oxidised turns red.

Great video Ned. I’ve been looking for a simple diy kiln and I really like the looks of your. I’m assuming those are fire bricks of some sort. Can you tell me who makes them and where I could order some for delivery in the US.? Me and a couple partners have three claims here in the mother Lode in California one of which is a hard rock with a lot of serpentine and quartz. I picked up a little 6 inch D ring impact mill run with a quarter angle grinder just for sampling and have a whole bunch of sulfites and a tiny bit of free milled gold. I’d like to set up a double burner propane unit and see what values the sulphide produce. Much appreciated. thank you Rodney
@GrooberNedJardine
@GrooberNedJardine 3 года назад
Hi Rodney , that first kiln set up i had didn't last long , i upgraded to a bigger propane burner and made a better furnace out of a watering can , lined with refractory cement , and sleeved with Kaowool , a real beast . I have a video up showing it in action if you wish to view it , just check out my channel , the vid is called Smelting sulfides for Gold . You could buy a Devil Forge , i think their pretty cheap , but really the cheapest DIY kiln you could make is out of 2 inch Kaowool wrapped into a cylindrical shape tied round it a piece of wire , and mount it on a couple of fire bricks , use also the Kaowool for a lid . That's all Jason uses on his channel MBMMLC , Mount Baker Mining & Metals , hope that helps , cheers and thanks for watching and commenting , good luck .
