Honestly, they both should of went together to get the excavator. No one was going to find that gold in the middle of no where and even if they did they wouldn't of been able to do anything with it. There was literally no point for anyman to stay behind. They should of stuck together and worked as a team, and that's why they both ended up dead.

missed opportunity to make the beard guy find the gold, and when he touches it, he realises its just the small chunk that Zack broke off, and the real big gold part is somewhere hidden under the sand because of the sand storm.

"Gold" is a movie about two drifters who are travelling through the South Australian desert and they stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found. They hatch a plan to protect and excavate their bounty with one man leaving (Man #2/Keith, played by Anthony Hayes) to secure the necessary equipment to pull it out of the earth. The other man (Man #1/ Virgil played by Zac Efron), remains on the spot to secure the loot. I cannot even imagine what Virgil (Zac) went through to persevere extreme heat conditions just to hold onto what he thinks he needs. I liked the plot as you can give your own interpretation to the facts of this movie. What is the value of the biggest chunk of gold in the world if you are in the middle of the desert, dehydrated, sunburnt and you kind of know you will not survive? What would you do? This movie clearly shows the everlasting greed and the lengths people will go to secure themselves a fortune. And I loved the cinematography, digitally enhanced or not. Was just awesome. And here we also see a different Zac in a character that he never played. And he succeeded as he put down an awesome acting performance. The story is concise and you kind of know what the other guy his plan will be. But never mind, this is a very good movie and deserves to be watched.

I understand that the other man never intended to come back while Zac was alive, but I don't get why Zac just couldn't chill under his tent/tarp and wait. I get it he needed firewood, but get it and get back under cover. Seemed he was always just aimlessly wandering around dehydrating himself and burning his flesh. Still a fun movie to watch, but that bothered me. Plus, I would have chosen to get the excavator. The other guy didn't seem to like him anyways, not shocked he didn't rush to get back and waited for him to die.

I'm not going to watch the movie at all cause while I appreciate Zac doing a serious role and him showing his acting chops, I don't like him films so straight to the point and I don't like that zacs serious roles have to be at his own lead role expense. Leos titanic was at his expense but it is what made the movie great especially rose benefiting from his passing ultimately Zac passes and the other guy apparently from what I keep hearing in the comments doesn't even get the gold for real.

This movie is incredible, it is so deep it’s above the intelligence of most viewers. I saw reviews from many people saying “I don’t buy it, why would the old fat guy betray him like that when he was the one pushing him to drive and not stay in desert” I will tell these idiots the answer to why, zac first explains to this man that he can handle this job that the other guy says is so hard and not everyone can handle it, zac says he can handle it, obviously he is at a point in his life where he wants to challenge himself and want to take a hard job and feel like he can handle it. After the man hears zac say he can handle that job, he then uses reverse psychology by telling him he won’t survive in this desert and that he has to be the one to drive and not stay in desert, this was sort of him telling zac “he is stupid and naive and weak and can’t handle survival in desert for just 5 days” From the very begging of finding the gold, the man wants to get rid of zac but he doesn’t want to be one killing anyone, he wants to use zac to get rid of anyone who tries to get the gold, while he goes to bring the excavator he already knows he won’t come to get zac and the gold in 5 days, he bring his tent and anything he needs to camp for days while watching zac getting weaker and weaker and getting eaten by animals. He is so evil that he can’t just go end zac’s life like that injured dog he kills in the begging of the movie, he rather stays and watches him starve and bleed and get eaten by dogs. And right where the viewers think this movie sucks because it’s so dark and cruel to see the main character who’s on a survival mission and hopeful to get rich end up getting eaten by dogs, there comes the part where viewers are supposed to feel a little satisfaction when the twin sister shoots the old man and he never gets to have the gold when he thought he won and got away with his despicable plan. Also some viewers commented that who gets the gold?? Does it really matter? The point of this movie is to show you how cruel humans are to each other, how selfish and evil humans can be and that people like zac who are honest, loyal and hopeful get torn to pieces by humans at the end, not the dogs because to those dogs he is just an easy meal, to them it’s the way of life, the way of nature. This movie can be a great lesson for younger more naive people to be smart and not trust a stranger so easily.

Clearly cause it's such a straight shoot without context or depth in the plot for why he would be this ridiculously naive and determined let alone stupid to just allow some scruffy stranger to abandon him to kill himself via slow burn die out. That's an agreed upon unspoken suicide. They could have easily took 1 hour or 2 to create a landmark and cover up the cold then go fetch the extractor then come back. If he waited for Zac character to die that means that HE KNEW nobody would show up within that period of time to steal the gold nor gave any equipment on hand for it to be watched in the first place. Plus if Zac character is that relentless in securing this treasure he's attaching his self worth to, no man ot group should be a challenge to physically fight or kill off if they were to come back TOGETHER and have to be met by some other travelers who discovered it later. It's just a one man film about his grit and greed. That's all

Gold is what I'd like to refer to as a psychological survival thriller. It incorporates tropes such as man v/s nature, man v/s man, and fictional v/s real. The major bummer here is the lack of a compelling arc. A couple of twists work, and the ending is possibly the best one given the proceedings, but the film doesn't give us any reasons to root for Zac Efron's character surviving the ordeal. The "no man's land" setup is pretty intriguing, but writer-director Anthony Hayes (who also plays a key role) decides to take the story through familiar routes. A human threat, a wild dog threat, and a storm threat were all obvious, and the film didn't do anything extraordinary with these essential ingredients. Efron puts in solid work, no doubt, and the film isn't a big fat bore like many folks have remarked. But if someone asks what I'd recommend instead, I'd say Mads Mikkelsen's Arctic.

So seeing his buddy just watching wasnt even a big surprise. but why the greed. why choose gold over life, if you cant use it when youre dead? you could argue thats deep but with a compelling story it doesnt connect with us. so seeing his buddy just watching wasnt even a big surprise.

"Gold" film reminds people that sometimes, you need to satisfy with what you have got or you have. Being greedy that much can lead the end of your life. So, don't be that much greedy. Back to the film, like the other people said, it's not that good but it's not that bad either. It's somewhere in between. I like the fact they want to show but they made the film a little dull, cold and slow. If it had some interesting things, it'd be better. Right now, it's kind of enjoyable if you don't mind to watch a bit dull, cold and slow films. As for me, I felt like it's a little bit boring. But I watched the whole thing to know how it's ended.

I knew what the ending was going to be when haze was basically poking shots at zacs characters man hood “you probably couldn’t handle it so I’ll do it” semi knowing zac was gonna be like “I’m a man I’ll stay.” If only zacs character put his ego aside and realize that he would’ve had the leverage if he was the one to leave and come back haze wouldn’t be able to take it without his help and also wouldn’t have been betrayed by him…guy he had just met. Zacs character was manipulated and didn’t even know it until he was about to get eaten and haze wasn’t responding when asking if he was almost there “you worthless piece of shit, I found it!” . The naive and oblivious part of zacs character is what killed him and of course greed, he atleast should’ve taken that smaller chunk and left he would’ve had enough to start a new comfortable life. But I was happy to see that haze died that’s the only thing I didn’t expect was the sister killing haze because I sorta thought he was imagining her as a way of guilt for killing the first sis. It really set the tone that zac was in his clear mind the entire time and wasn’t imagining the sister and that he was thinking clearly about the fact he was putting this gold before his own life but he was coming in and out of consciousness along with a zombie look. Though it didn’t have a lot of action such a good movie I just wish it was a more psychological approach and not have such an obvious ending.

Bleak, painful and raw portrait of Zach Efron, who accidentally finds lots of gold in the midst of a huge desert and who is determined to protect his new found treasure come hell or high water. The blistering sun and man eating coyotes being his worst enemies. Or is greed his worst enemy? The good: terrific extreme makeover of Zach Efron's face. You have never have seen him this ugly and repulsive. Great acting performance as well. This is basically a one man movie, with only 3 other small supporting roles. That's all. More good: however slowburning in nature this story might be (nothing much happens), there is still a suspense building up in strength, the suspense being IF and HOW Zach Efron is gonna survive the desert. Not any bad? If I have to be really critical, there are a few plot turns that I could rationalize to pieces, but on the whole, this story made sense. And it is a tough cookie! Quite impressive. Not a happy end. Not a happy movie. Those folks who want to be simply entertained, better move on to Spiderman and the sorts...

So clicked to find the theory on the ending, i guess the obvious would be he wasn't actually hallucinating the sister and it was her. Did think initially the fella with the truck knew the woman and that was his 'freind' who also had the excavator. The freind could also know the sister and they're gonna actually split the gold. Some glaring story holes in this that don't get filled in the slightest, like the scar on his face, dodgy leg, he personally seemed that previously he'd served in the military. Also where does this say near future? I was certain this was based around the actual gold rush, hence the mention of loads of people coming up. Enjoyed the movie though and by far the best role I've seen zac actually act. Edit: forgot amongst my going off topic i still didn't get a theory on the ending just a basic recap of what i just seen. Why call something 'ending explained' then proceed to explain nothing about the actual ending. Gold star to anyone who got this far 🌟 Have a fantastic day. 🙂

Right off the bat, I have to admit, what a riveting experience this was. An incredible piece of filmmaking, an embodiment of excellence in the space of Survival dramas. If I were to describe Anthony Hayes' "Gold" in a single sentence, I would say it is gritty, allusive and it exquisitely disseminated the feelings of nothing but desolation and despair. Not to mention the fact that; the stunning work of Cinematography and a sumptuous sound design took my amusement to a whole new level. Besides, I couldn't get enough of Zac Efron's performance. I do not have sufficient words to define how exceptional and effortless Efron was in his character. I haven't seen much of his earlier works, but this performance is something that I would never forget. I need hardly say that he made a long-lasting impression! So did Anthony Hayes with his immaculate sense of direction and storytelling. What a terrific way to depict Covetousness and Obsession, two inherent attributes of human nature and all the plausible consequences that follow.

Watching over a chunky mountain of gold in the australian desert outback country. A twisted story about greed and gloathing gold like king midas of the past. Hot sun and delirious minds, its litterary gold fever. A small cast survival thriller, a story that desmond bagley wouldve chuckled over and wilbur smith would nod about. The production shows the harsh dried out hell of australian desertlife, where the flies are kings and the snake and scorpions are the warriors. Neatly filmed and acted, the makeup squad gone bananas, and most stuff stashed like a good ol' madmax stage. If youre able to sit and wait for things to happen, youll be rewarded, i did. A small recommend from the grumpy old man.

I'd tend to assume that it's the sister of the woman he murdered, as we had earlier seen her pointing a crossbow at his head. but the reason for the shooting is left unexplained. did she shoot him because #2 intentionally let his 'partner' get torn to pieces, because she knew of the gold and wanted it, or both? this is a pretty good movie, imo, but it clearly is a ripoff of john steinbeck's old story 'the pearl.' I'd even wager that the theme of this story has already been told hundreds, if not thousands of times. it's a good movie, but nothing original about it.

Gold (2022) had a promising start and overall has demonstrated solid production value, although the washed-out look got old fast. While the acting was perfectly fine, as it gets closer to the end, it starts to wear on you. This isn't really a human nature study, more like a semi-survival film full of stupid decisions. The only human trait here was greed. Nothing more than that. In a future like this, you would think people would've still bet on survival over pointless death. The resolution is obvious from the start since this is what would happen in a real-life situation. They added a little "twist" at the end, but it barely connects, since it means nothing for the viewer or the characters, and rather solidifies the message the film is trying to push. The whole story relies on our main character not being too bright, and it's fine. The problem is that we barely know anything about the world and the characters. Frankly, there are no characters going through arcs, people encounter problems in a not-so-bright future, and never change. This was probably intended, and probably realistic enough, but even a couple of flashbacks establishing motivations or attitudes would've been great. Especially since the acting was good. As it is, Gold (2022) is an ok semi-survival film but feels very shallow and does not connect the viewer to what these "characters" are going through. There are also some things that make little sense, like why Virgil didn't just leave when he got the Stranger's loot. Since one can walk there on foot, he could've given it a try, it's not as a middle of nowhere as they said it was. I guess greed is an answer to anything in this, but the introductory scene (and the burial scene) suggested some sort of dignity or reliability in Virgil, soon to be gone, again, greed. Also, it is unclear when Keith got back since neither he nor the other Stranger was affected by the dust storm. I guess I'm nitpicking, but I'd still prefer Virgil to switch into survival mode at the end, there is greed, but people still have survival instincts. Overall, the film leaves a bad taste, which is intended but feels empty on details, which is not. It's not long, but I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, more like 50/50.

Zac Efron hasn't been in much lately. I suspect he's probably just working on other projects and doing other things with his time. But 'Gold' was not the type of film I expected him to come back with. At least it looked kind of interesting so I was excited to check it out. Here are my thoughts. The film starts out very slowly. There are only two characters and neither of them are very interesting. At this point I was worried this could be a very slow and dull film. Then it gets to the plot though and things start to become a little more interesting. The thing that bugged me most about the film was that it made no sense. Efron's character stays to guard the gold, however no one has ever found it before now. So why are they worried someone will miraculously find it in the next 5 days in the absolute middle of nowhere? I had trouble getting past that plot-point. A large portion of the movie is just Efron's character by himself trying to survive. For a film to get away with this you have to be impeccable, otherwise you will lose your audience fast. 'Castaway' was strong enough to pull it off (just) - and even then it took a volleyball to carry it through. 'Gold' isn't quite as strong. The middle of this film can get a little tedious. The make-up used on Efron's face was very well done. It didn't seem particularly consistent (I could be wrong on that but it felt like every time we cut to a new scene he looked different to the last), but it did look very painful and quite realistic. The ending of the film is a bit of fun. I like it when films aren't afraid to do something a bit different in terms of concluding their film. This is a very somber film. There are exactly zero laughs attempted. It doesn't take away from the film, but it is worth noting. 'Gold' isn't a film I will watch again. It had its moments and was mildly enjoyable at times but probably not one I would go out of my way to recommend. 6/10.

It’s not a plot hole. The sisters found the gold before efrons character. So you may need to rewatch it.

Having tried to watch the recently released The Tourist, I didn't think anything could be as bad as that. Boy was I wrong. Once again we have the writer directing their own poorly written script, meaning there is no one to correct or point out mistakes. From the very opening scenes when the camera lingered on ants, I correctly suspected this was a written and directed by the same person film. The pacing is wrong, with the scenes waiting for the viewer to realise how much trouble the director has gone to get it looking right. The lack of dialogue is probably supposed to make the film more brooding but instead makes it unrealistic. The "twist" was visible from the beginning of the film, so there was no surprise. It would appear that the streaming services are desperate for content, and are digging around in the dirt to produce what they call gold, but is only fools gold.
