The lake is low and more of the creek is exposed than usual. Come explore and do some panning at a local spot full of history. ..and gold!

One of the things I learned from the man that taught me to pan. He has been panning that area for over 40 years. He is head of the Woodstock gold panning club. He always said the old timers always told him the farther you are away from the lake the bigger the gold is. And I have found this to be true.
@HighPassGuy
@HighPassGuy 2 года назад
I heard that from an old timer on THIS creek as well. I can confirm true. It's just.... I cannot help but think there's some big chunks out in the creekbed where the lake is for most of the year. (This lake drains down every Dec-Feb)

Why don't you try getting a blue bowl for that really fine stuff Tammy Ray sells them up to Chris and gold mine and I'll tell you the truth it will help you on panning out that really fine flower gold that you're working with

Thanks for posting. Please can the background music, though. The stream is music enough. Your talking, the noise from the stream, and the background music, makes for a very poor audio. That music was horrible, as well. I don’t know why so many RU-vidrs seem to think background music is always needed.

What a surprise to find your video in my feed. I grew up around Sixes, before Bridgemill and all the development in the area. I can remember when Sixes Road was so narrow, tree limbs would cross over it making like a tunnel of sorts in some places. I used to notice tailings along the banks of Downing Creek when I'd go hiking to the lake. I knew there was gold mining back in the day, just thought it was all gone. I now live in the Sierra Nevada near the Sierra Buttes where the largest gold nugget in the US was discovered called the "Monumental" nugget which weighed in at 106 lbs! Wouldn't that be a nice find in your backyard panning excursions!
@HighPassGuy
@HighPassGuy 2 года назад
Most of it's still here in some form or fashon. I went down to Sixes Creek (mine) last weekend and there's still tons of evidence.. Tailings piles, pits, etc...

everyone has their own way to pan, but I think you can be more sure that the gold is at the bottom from the first few shakes. Even small flakes are heavier than the sand and dirt and rocks. Put some gold into different stuff that you usually pan and practice with it - and you'll find that alot of that shaking is unnecessary.

Do you know if we can use a portable sluice box in Cherokee County ?
@HighPassGuy
@HighPassGuy Год назад
It's not a County regulation. This is a Corps of Engineers thing.... On PRIVATE property in the county you can use whatever you want. I am unsure about parks, etc but would think sluice box is OK but I wouldn't bring out a 3" dredge and start working, lol! You can NOT use anything but shovel and pan in close proximity to Allatoona and specifically on Corps of Engineers property.

@@HighPassGuy yes that is what I meant on core property. I know that on private property we can do what we want, I have panned that same spot. I have a few other questions about prospecting. Can you tell me who or what part of government.i need to ask?

I'm heading to the area for vacation soon so I watched your video for an idea of what is in the area, I might recommend a drop of jetdry to break surface tension of the water I have noticed even being heavy gold can float when it's tiny. as far as easier ways you seem pretty handy there are cheap effective thinks you can build to make separating a lot easier.

@HighPassGuy
@HighPassGuy 2 года назад
There are 3 (if people park right) spots at this one. I've never had any problem squeezing in and that's only been a couple of times. It's usually just me as I usually go when its colder. Poison Ivy and bugs suck. This place is a 10 minute walk from the car if that. At other places, I'll hike in as far as an hour for that hidden good gold that no one else wants to make the hike for :)

It's funny how one can pan on Army Corp property on Alatoona but not Lanier. Did you check your magnetic black sands to see if any gold was trapped in that also?
@HighPassGuy
@HighPassGuy 5 лет назад
I leave the creek with a LOT of black sand. I don't clean-up too much onsite, it wastes too much time. If I see gold in the pan, the whole lot goes in the snuffer bottle. I do a slow thorough cleanup at home with Jet-Dri in the water. LOTS of fine gold!

I know of nowhere in GA where that is legal except for private land. The fine for doing that on public land is $10k and they take all your gear. Look into the GPAA claims in GA, I see several videos where people do that on their property when they are members. Nowhere I go is this legal :( I kind of wish it was.. but then, if it was, there may be no gold left for anyone to find.

@@thegeorgiacreekwalker491 That panning makes no difference at all! There is so much fine gold there it is inexhaustable!! Take a look at his cleanup. See all that tiny black sand with the flake gold washed down off of it. We that is all gold as well, just super tiny! Most panners will throw that back. Your not going to run out of gold!! You just have to find out how to catch what you can't see!! 85% of gold is not visible to 20-20 vision. A dredge, sluice, or highbanker would be totally useless there. They absolutely will not catch that gold! It's too little for them. They only catch the 12% that is large enough to be visible. They won't even touch that stuff!!! But a good prospector could make 10 grams a day there perpetually!!! 20 more could as well!!! Fact: Not too far from there at the Briar Patch mine on the Etowah, the sand in the river, with an amalgum essay, figures 6 ounces to the ton!!! For river sand!!! That is 6 ounces for 70 #2 shovels of gravel!!! That creek would be just as good ;) And it all will fall through a100 mesh screen!!
