Dear Mr. Sreetips, I hereby dub thee the unofficial title of "Her Majesties' Educator of Young People in the UK". My deaf, autistic 15 year old walked into the room earlier and noticed me watching one of your refining videos and she was enthralled, and I mean really enthralled, so much so we watched a few more of them and talked about the chemical processes (in sign language, which is difficult!!!) and I now think she is hooked. As a former Chemist I really enjoyed watching the videos with her and educating her so I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post this content and I think you may have re-ignited a fire under her in what is her final academic year at school. Keep up the good fight mate. Or should I say Sir Sreetips !!! (unofficially)
I wouldnt say excellent, he has yet to put in any watermarks so he doesnt need to write sreetips everywhere. Imwas the first person to inform him that someone was downloading and reuploading his content and never got a thank you
Not counting the price of chemicals. I would break down the purchase price, Chem price, time and subtract that from the spot price. I'm not seeing much profit. Refined gold is high 90%s. Spot price may be more. Idk
I agree with someone else commenting saying that it is a demonstration more than anything. I wouldn’t expect you to find this stuff on eBay, but if you know a guy who works at a computer repair shop or something, you might get his trash for cheap/free, which would turn this into something worthwhile. You can always hold the gold as it gains in value. It’s fluctuated this year, but the overall trend is up. Most people hold onto gold for decades
He lost money the price of gold is 57 dollers per gram today so like 560 dollers around that marker never took the time to calculate it perfectly so he is out lots of money
That's why it's never profitable to buy off eBay scrap for reprocessing. Sreetips was kind enough to explain why so you don't have to repeat the same errors.
@@dodgeit3014 Gold is currently going for $1750 an ounce. A lot more than $1200. He paid $818.00 for gold that would have been worth about $440. **edit - I get why he does it. For educational purposes. So even if he loses some money on the purchase, he more than makes it back in RU-vid revenues.
the video was done 3 years ago, you just saw a condensed version, back them he got around 1200 dollars for that gold, so there was money to be made if you do it now, you must get the fingers for half that price or for free to make it worth your time
Mr Sree tips, could you please do an episode on tips to conserve chemical use? Obviously waste of acids or mbs etc. cuts into to profitability. By now you surely know some tricks! BTW big fan of your page don't breath the fumes and keep it sizzlin.
He did this many months ago, and made one of his much longer detailed videos on it. His shorter vids are an encouraged product RU-vid has been pushing to compete with other websites. His shorter vids are obviously a hit, I bet he does it with all of his older vids.
That much gold at todays price on 4-20-22 is $817 and you paid I believe $818. Possibly I have those numbers reversed. Even though there wasn’t much of a profit it’s most likely a good time to just hang onto that gold because the prices sure not going down like the dollar is. Great videos.
I would have never paid that much for the gold fingers. Always ask for a lower price before buying, most eBay sellers will consider a reasonable offer even if they don't have the "Best Offer" option.
I was buying these to make the video. Computer scrap is very popular so I knew this video would do well. I know that it makes sense to ask for a lower price, and I could have done that. On the other hand, I figured I’d offer full ask price to promote some goodwill. The sellers gets full price, I get the scrap all at once in one shot to make the video. Win - win. The best kind of deals. I wasn’t concerned with “making a profit.”
I am having so much fun! I am also very excited about getting started. This video seems like a good place for me to start! (FYI I am retired / disabled, so I have time for new hobbies, especially ones that can make money. I have been stacking silver and gold for quite a while. This will be a great addition to that!)
The only way to do e-waste is to collect and scrap it yourself. People selling it think their time is worth something, and have no idea what is involved to recover and refine the precious metals. They also have no clue how little precious metals are actually in it. There's a reason it's most commonly referred to as "WASTE".
Love the channel so some questions do you pay for haz waste disposal? What is your cost for a project like this one? Like chemicals, cost for fngers, glass ware loss? What is your acid and peroxide concentrations?
I treat the waste prior to disposal. I don’t track expenses for each batch, this is my hobby. Glassware come from eBay. HCl is 31.45% nitric is 68% to 70%. The hydrogen per oxide is 3% medical grade from the grocery store.
@@sreetips Most scrappers get those stuff for free. Besides gold and especially silver are so undervalued relitive to other assets. $$$ currency is crap. We gain refining experience plus real money. So we havent lost anything.
a $300 dollar loss but thank you for showing video on process again. Makes me think I should just sell my stock online to get more than it is worth compared to refining it..
Love this channel. Doesn't look like any profits this go around...? I hope you're channel is still alive and well by the time I get into doing this myself... Cheers!
@@archermathews8562 11.3 g is worth 639.13 at spot, (likely more like $480.00 to a buyer) he spent 818.00 on the contacts, then the cost of the chemicals would add around $40.00/$50.00 so he spent around 890.00 to recover 640.00 that's a large loss
@@sreetips Oh Yes. I remember now! You might say or have it typed at the bottom during the video. I'm sure alot of your new subs would love to see that great video!! THANK YOU SREETIPS!!!!!
I have come to the conclusion that buying e waste from eBay is not profit unless you collect it for free your self thank you for showing us this great channel two thumbs
there is a youtuber who buys and recycles old servers and similar equipment, he says that if he can't sell ram modules that have these fingers, he will just recover the gold from them i see now why he gets so happy if he can't sell hundreds of ram modules online he got for cents or for free
Unfortunately acid peroxide solution can dissolve gold and most likely you'll lose some of it. What you should be using is copper 2 chloride to dissolve the base metals to release the foils from the boards
You beat me to it. Peroxide oxidizes HCl to chlorine + water, just like any strong oxidizer will. The chlorine water produced will leach gold. Dilute nitric might be a better way to dissolve the copper from the foils. If you still have your spent acid, try cementing out the gold with copper.
I have to agree with others here. For this to be just break even, (and not compensating for the cost of chemicals, filters, fuels, electricity, etc.), gold would have to be at around $2,200 an ounce. Once the price gets above say $2,300 you're in the black. By chance do you know a place to find the pyrex glassware at reasonable prices? Thanks for sharing your marvelous knowledge with us.
@@sreetips Thanks for the EBay tip. I'm glad to know that I'm getting mine at the same place! Also, I concur. As a long time stacker, as long as you can find someone to trade you paper for metal, you take the deal!
I'm confused. You used a mix of HCl and H2O2 to detach the gold foils from the PCB fingers, but I read everywhere on the web that HCl and H2O2 actually dissolves gold?!!
that is correct, but the video is from 2018, back then the gold had a higher price, he made like 300 from those 11 grams, if you do this today, you must get those fingers alot cheaper, because 1 gram now is like 60 dollars only
Professional 75 dollar/gram gold.. 😬 $818 + chemicals and time 😬😬 Yep.. I’ve definitely done worse 😂 Old work joke after we discovered something we did not count on.. We would look at each other and Say.. “We are Professionals” 😂 Thanks Sreetips ✌️PT
This is why silverplate is actually a good buy. It is because the value of the scrap goes for higher (scales with the price of the recovered materials. Take a calculator and play around with it.
what do you do with the green liquor that gets poured off? would you mix it with the clear liquor from other batches? what makes it green and not the usual color?
Just a thought. If you put the link(s) to the video or series in the description some people would surely go watch. I've found searching is hard enough to discourage a lot of people.
I have been collecting memory stick fingers for about 5 years. I am getting close to 6 lbs of fingers, so I am curious how different my yield will be from yours.
Trimmed circuit card fingers? I’ve been looking for some to do another video but I can’t find any. The key to getting a good yield, in my opinion, is to bubble them in acid/peroxide for as long as it takes. Two weeks if need be. Resist the urge to get it done quickly. Let the reactions happen in their own time instead of trying to force them to happen in the time you want.
@@sreetips I have done much smaller batches before. I typically collect about a lb. of fingers per year, but between COVID and other things, I just kept putting it off.
Hello Sreetips. Iv just bought some glassware and i have a novice question for you. Theyre tall form 2000mL Simex. Im a little worried iv been supplied factory seconds and maybe you could offer some advice here. There is lateral warping around the entire circumference of one beaker. Its nothing major but can be clearly seen when you tilt it back and forth. The second beaker has some minor warping that doesnt wrap around the entire circumference but is visible upon close inspection. Would you consider this defective and dangerous glassware? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I apologise for being a time thief. Any other readers opinions of this post with experience in this departmart? Your advice and experience would be greatly appreciated.
it would be as if a piece of wire was restricting it as it was formed causing a straight line around the circumference. Im not saying that is how it happened im just trying to describe the warp. Are the walls of your beaker supposed to be a "perfect" plane.
So I'm assuming there's copper, iron, nickel, etc still present, and not an issue I take it in solution with AR...? Going by this I'm guessing the 99.0 purity is a result of this, but it doesn't seem to affect how much of the acids are needed overall...? Am I missing anything?
@@sreetips So is it possibly better (meaning "simpler") when there's a lower ratio of base metal to gold, to just eat it all and do a couple extra purification steps? I would imagine the biggest pitfall would be that more solution needs to be precipitated as opposed to cleaning the base metals out first
Wait you paid $818 for 6 pounds of scrap that yielded 11.3 grams . You lost about $80 plus time and chemicals. Great video on the process . Hope RU-vid revenue makes you a profit . I have been collecting lots of scrap RAM and CPUs to refine. Might just sell it for the weight since I don’t have the experience with the chemical process and it looks like something a nubbie should not try at home .
It’s my hobby. Some once said, “if you turn your hobby into your work then it becomes just that: work.” I couldn’t imagine refining as a job. It’s all fun.
this video is old, from 2018, different prices, if you do this now, you must get the fingers for alot less, 500 dollars or less in that time sreetips got 1200 so he won around 200 dollars more or less, if with the same prices he did it now, he would lose like 200 dollars this is a great idea if you get the fingers for very little or for free, as people that recycles old servers do
More proof of don't buy get rich on ebay you'll loose every time, the only ones making money on plated scrap, e-scrap, etc is the seller. Had a though on your plated jewelry how do you sort out Vermiel (Au over 925Ag) from the rest of the plated scrap it was pretty popular during the '90's when Ag was
So basically you lose money trying to do this as the cost of the raw material ($800) plus the cost of chemicals and labor ($50) is just slightly more than the cost of the gold extracted at 0.409 oz which at current gold spot price is $726....
@@sreetips ok Have a Nice Day my friend. When the spring is coming, i whil try and see after gold. My wife father own have a huge farm, whit many lake. Thank you fore you insperation. God bless🤗
Sreetips recently subscribed mate 👍🏼 Nice watching your work 👌 just a Question mate do you need any special or specific licence to purchase acids or chemicals that you use? 🍺
Some companies like gfs chemical require you to be business in order to order from them but a place like lab alley doesn’t. You’ll usually pay less from places that sell to businesses only. You can easily find sources online for the chems just look around because buying on sites like eBay you could severely over pay, and while that’s ok if your just learning or for hobby purposes and you don’t care about the price, but if you want to make money doing this you’ll obviously want to save money where ever you can to increase your profit margins.
I remember this one, of course. This experiment was a resounding success. I think I was as happy as you were to see that button. lol Thank you, Sr. Folks, the whole process, from start to gold button, is on his channel. I call it chemical wizardry.
What was the current value of the gold button compared to what you paid for the scrap? Just asking to see if it's worth it or just as a hobby for gold collection
As of today 11 grams is only about $600. But gold changes dramatically at times and you usually only sell it when it’s high or keep it as an investment
Gold is not an investment. Its insurance and it represents protection from the money printers who plunder the savers. If you want to gain more paper then you should invest in paper.
