In this video I will scrap and process a batch of gold plated watches. I will purify gold plating using Aqua Regia and iron sulfate to recover pure gold. Enjoy!
Hi, I have one more video where I show the marks of the cases so you can see it is gold plating 5-20 microns thick. Only for one of this pile of cases I think was filled. All other plated.
Hi, reaction of the nitric acid with brass is exothermic, so heating is not needed. Starts slowly but then speeds up. After dissolving 95% of the brass in the cases reaction slows down a lot, so it is good to remove the acid that worked out and put the gold foils into fresh nitric acid to quickly dissolve any remains of brass. No other acids needed.
Hello , How much time the disolving this watches in HCI+H2O2 solution ? And if i use this method how much will be the concentration of the Hidrogen peroxid 3% or 6%? thanks your answer.
Hi, I never tried dissolving solid brass cases in hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide, but if I try this I will pick 30% peroxide and periodically add it to the solution to keep reaction going. With 3 and 6 % peroxide the issue is that volumes become huge at certain point.
My point is that in case of silver contacts cleaning from copper we deal with small amount of copper to dissolve. Watch cases are tens and hundreds of grams. For watch cases I always use nitric acid.
Hi, only one of the watches has had a mark “gold filled”. Rest have had no mark or marked as platted with different thickness of the plating between 5 and 20 microns.
Hi, it really depends a lot. My yield of gold per kg material is between 30g and 0.2g. 30g I got from military USSR pins, and 0.2g from modern main board pins.
Nice vid. Thank you 👍 According to your yield, I would estimate my 1,165 kg of gold plated watches to get me around 22 grams of gold. 🤔 I sure hope that’s the case 😅
It was more or less a fair mixture with only one gold filled case marked also as plated (very strange mark), so 1.9% of total weight yield is fine. I’ve seen more and I’ve seen less. All depends on material :)
Hi, sure! I have some reed relays that are magnetic and I was preparing them for a video. Magnetic material is processed easy - just add sulphuric acid to the nitric acid. All base metal dissolves.
Hi, I use Nitric acid to dissolve base metal, aqua regia to dissolve gold plating, sulfamic acid to denox and iron sulfate to reduce gold. If other information needed do not hesitate to contact me, please.
