The single most valuable tip that I learned from watching this video... @ 11:40 How to remove filings off your magnet by first covering it with a sheet of plastic.
He is selling it for $79.95 on ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/Pentium-Pro-CPU-Gold-Recovery-24k-bead-from-four-CPUs-/262306463876?hash=item3d12af0084:g:dgcAAOSw5IJWgtxI
As a matter of fact, I'm the idiot who bought it. This video has over a million views now, and the gold bead is worth much more than its weight, lol. I can in fact get double what I paid for it, not that I'm selling. It's still going up.
I can totally see the piece of gold selling for more PURELY from it being on a viral video. If I sculpt a dragon it'd be just a common dragon, but if that same dragon on a 20 million view video it would be like a youtube star :D
I love the way people do these type of vidios on utube. It is a lot of work. Its like a mate showing you what he has been up to in his shed. Somebody who has a good grip of what he is doing. Nice one and thanks
Also it can give a person a better understanding of chemistry. I wish these videos existed when I was in school. It's so much more interesting to see how it happened.
I don't even know how I came across this video. However I watched it to its entirety. Suprisingly I was entertained. What an art. The sheer discipline and patience and repetition of it all was memorizing. Wonderful video sir.
Hey, Dipstick! You know that Walter W is a fictional television character, right? If the show lasted longer, he could probably fart rainbow-colored lightning bolts and blow 24-karat gold boogers out his nose.
Are you sure? He had .3 grams... For 24K (pure, .999+) it's only worth $41.33/gram. Total gold value is $12.40. How many of these did he make? Maybe that's how you got to $55.50...
Another great video, I started buying gold coins and gold scrap as well as silver and sterling silver years ago, and got my young son into it as well, he’s still, now 26 collecting coins. I’ve always been interested in how the chemicals can be used to separate the different metals out, and I don’t completely understand, but these videos are just amazing and help me fight off the urge to do it myself. I you were my next door neighbor, I’d be the most helpful pain in the but ever lol. Also, Mrs Sreetips but be amazing and highly motivated as well, you two seem to be a great team.
wow... honestly this is a performance that includes patience, hard work, and a hell of a lot of dedication. it was great to see you do this from start to finish...good job.
That wouldn't even be nearly enough to repeat the experiment for yourself. There are many other things to consider to perform the experiment accurately and safely. This is why it should not be taken as a tutorial. The measurements serve as no more than a demo
If he wanted to make a tutorial he should wear a lab coat :P. 5/10 people who haven't worked in a lab before would die while doing this anyways. 2 of them, because they would forget to turn on lamina flow xD
I found your video very interesting. Not exactly what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it all the same. Thank you. I'll be watching for more of your videos looking forward to seeing them
They already are worth more than the value of the gold they contain. I think I paid $18.50 for each. But they only contain 0.3 grams each worth about $12.
I buy those at yardsales for a few bucks. They are very tough and work well. My wife would not be happy if I took here's to use for my refining projects.
I watched the whole video, it was a painful workout for my patience! But I really like, respect and appreciate what you went through to produce this awesome demonstration! And when I said painful, it in no way implied any negative intent for your excellent video quality, just my ADHD.
I don't think he's doing this to make money. I think he's doing this simply because he can and he enjoys doing it. Like how some people who are not artists would sometimes draw stuff because thay can and its fun to them. It's called hobby.

Fantastic experiment, I'm sorry it was much ado about nothing. However, I'm always fascinated watching you work. Your knowledge of metallurgy and chemistry is astounding.
Actually if you use the same solution over and over again I heard that the same solution can hold 300g of metal in it, so if you just kept reusing the acid-bleach maybe add a little more bleach each time, the cost of materials goes down to practically nothing.
Pentium Classic 75MHz-166MHz P54C chips are the easiest way to ceramic packaging. There are 200MHz non-MMX variants that use the later PMMX organic PGA packaging that was also migrated to the Celerons with 128KB L2 cache based on Deschutes (forget the codename and too lazy to google it). You can find rare all ceramic Pentium w/MMX 166MHz and 200MHz variants, but 166MHz are the most common of the two. You could go for the Cyrix 6x86/AMD K6-x, Motorola 680x0, or DEC Alpha chips if you want to rescue more eccentric parts from scrappers. Maybe the early PPC 601/603 are also on ceramic, but use a flip-chip design so no gold heatspreaders. If you're going to go Pentium Pro, go for the 200MHz 512KB or 1MB L2 variants. A Pentium II Overdrive 333MHz is also an option to max out the Socket 8 platform, but are expensive at $200-400USD per CPU. The 1MB L2 models are easy to spot because of their black packaging material. Happy Hunting!
I won`t use them in working computer configuration. I think about making shelf with glass cover for all CPUs that i have. I don`t know where in Bulgaria I can find electronic waste, and I just can`t afford to spend money for old CPUs. I saw some awesome old tech in FreeGeek in Vancouver from when LTT were there, but I can`t go there :( Someday if I go to Vancouver on holiday I will check FreeGeek for some awesome stuff.
I was checking out info about the upcoming intel 8th Generation CPUs and somehow i landed here.Such a great video! Thanks alot sreetips! Totally Impressed!
I like your series of videos and with a background in chemistry I understand (mostly) what you're doing. Here in Australia anyone would struggle to purchase even simple glassware. When I worked for a lab supply company, the police stringently monitored all sales and purchasers had to sign end user licence agreements (EULA's) stating that the equipment would not be used for clandestine drug manufacture.
I don't think he's doing this to make money. I think he's doing this simply because he can and he enjoys doing it. Like how some people who are not artists would sometimes draw stuff because thay can and its fun to them. It's called hobby.
...and more money is generated by doing you tube video's - as a permanent income because the videos continue to be watched with more subscribers. THIS IS THE WAY TO MAKE THE MONEY, not the small amount of gold. Few people could be bothered to go through and demonstrate this experiment, its too long and toxic. I mean just look at those plumes of green chlorine gas ! Its a miniature chemical weapons facility called a lab.
The amount of chemicals used in this video exceed the price of 1.5 grams of gold. (Excluding the amount required to purchase the CPU's) So in essence it costs him money to collect the gold from the CPU.
I'm glad I read both your posts, I know nothing of the process, while watching it I determined that it was a waste of time and money. Even if he gets them for free, which I do.
I cannot believe I just sat through a video on the slowest gold recovery on the planet...I could have driven to Alaska and panned some faster...haha....labor intensive...
that's what looks like hours of work for 25-50 dollars worth of gold good lord, lol you'd have to do this on such an absurd scale for it to be worth your time and resource cost
I was kidding..lol...Man How do you know this stuff ??It is so complicated to do...and how does the gold just float in water???..I thought it would settle much faster...Your IQ must be through the roof !...Matt.
Massachusetts Matt. hey uhm. is it posible to just scrape off the gold when the gold is easy to scrape off of the ceramic?? and take out the plastic chunk out as you scrape the cold off.. after the bottom part is cleaned of course because cpu has both side with gold
daimon hellstrom yeah same here makes me want to start learning more of chemistry.. But my point was if its posible to slide off the (foil) state of the gold off of the plastic and get rid of most plastic but i dont know if that would be a good idea
Your gonna need all that gold and more to pay that power bill. Omg the hood is awesome, everything is awesome yet it takes allot of time, knowledge and patience to do this. After understanding the how is one thing but to watch it is different! Thank you! Great channel. Your the sharpest knife in the drawer! For me I feel that time is the most precious commodity and I would never be able to do what you do! I'm jealous but thank you.
Thanks for sharing an interesting video, and particularly for pointing out key points to some of the audience (not a money-making approach, dangerous, ...). I'm puzzled by the downthumbs and negative comments, most of which seem to gripe about things you've already acknowledged... Sorry - can't stop the cretins.
Google "sell CPU scrap". There are companies who do this profesionally and will buy old CPUs and circuit boards. They usually pay by the pound and different items are worth more (based on gold content). But you really do need a lot, not just one or two. You really want Pentium Pro or earlier (286,386,etc).
Not when Gas is $7 gal a sixpack of coke is $12 a beef $14 lb forget seeing bacon. You hunt forage for your food or grow a garden for 4 mos. there are few roads so you have to make your own so you need a dozer, and the only entertainment is what ever vid games / movies you have. cell service is extremely limited
I am not sure speed wise and cost wise if this is worth it, I watched a few techniques to extract gold from chips, and everyone has their own methods! And they all use some form of Acid and fume hood, just not everyone is so extensive on testing gold in the solution at every step! But I do have to give you marks For your take on this attempt! I myself have lots of items with gold on it and just browsing the best ways! :)
-At the beginning of the video he states. "My only concern is with making this video that demonstrates how it can be done with NO NITRIC ACID". Cause acids are bad.
@@Unojoservir thought they were yeilding a 1/3 of a gram of gold each, and he's not even really recovering any of the bonding wires, because he's not pulverizing the ceramic. So, more like 60 to yield an ounce, maybe 50 per ounce using proper tech like Successful Engineer
I know what you mean! I never took Chemistry so it's all Greek to me. I know of a salvage yard that sends circuit boards through a shredder and heat it up in a gas furnace where all of board is consumed. They use different anodes in a process like the reverse of electroplating. I guess that it's not so time consuming, but likely has a similar amount of toxic products.
Ok, so HCL and Peroxide. Thought from the title you were suggesting HCL and Chlorine bleach. You'd have cleared a fairly large segment of the uninformed diy population with that suggestion.
The experiment was to show that the gold can be recovered and refined without using nitric acid. Instead, I used bleach and HCl to dissolve and refine the gold.
this is actually a great video and very detailed in examples and explanations. i love it..i love shows about how things can be separated and extracted. once all these materials are bonded together to make a cpu, it almost seems impossible to separate them again. all these steps were discovered by human beings at some point. and all these steps can naturally happen in nature. were just cracking natures natural code slowly
I don't usually comment on u tube things but have to say I found the whole video really good very interesting I watched it till the end well done if they only taught you that at chemistry I would have paid more attention at school
Todd Pattison China has started going bonkers with environmental regulation in the last few weeks. Raw material prices there have gone up a shit load as a result particularly in the electronics industries but even for cardboard making. Don't know why it's started happening but it has.
China has been raising export prices for all goods since late 2000's with massive currency manipulation since 2010. Environmental regulations are not particularly real in china, yes they exist, but just another hurdle to jump through and generally just a small fee, if any. . I recently had a 2000 kilowatt incinerator installed in guangzhou and didn't even require a permit. China wants to appear environmentally conscious but it wants more than anything to preserve manufacturing jobs. Manufacturing = terrible for the environment, china chooses manufacturing over protecting the environment 10 times out of 10.
Haters want to hate, underground Science lovers relate. This is awesome, I've already watched three videos. Can not wait to view more. Thanks for taking the time to break it down.
I part of me died when he hit the first P6 chip that led the frequency revolution of the 1990s and became the foundation for the current Core architecture with a hammer. I would have kept the CPUs, they'll be valuable in the future as collector items.
No, the whole thing is actually very smart. Obviously not for making money, but for processing materials and reclaiming resources used in other things it's genius. You never know when these processes will be needed for something. Medicine would be impossible without this kind of knowledge.
Thanks nice to see this done As for this date 2-15-2021 and gold is 58.67 dollars for a gold gram , the 5 cpu's yielded $88.00 of value. It's hard work but hang on until someday gold will hit the roof.
We are living under a reverse gold standard. As the currency inflates, due to printing money out of thin air, the devaluation of paper money will be reflected in the rising prices of gold and silver - a reverse gold standard.
dude, i have a chemistry degree, and i doubt ,very seriously , that i could have done a multi-step chemical process any better. that is incredible that you were able to extract exactly 1.5 grams of Au, from the CPU's. Bravo
People like you amaze me. Are you straight up dumb, or you just got no imagination? First of all, what do you think happened if you started this on factory scale? Second; you never know when information you have is going to come in handy. - Thirly some people just find it interesting even though they know they will probably never have any use of this information, but still entertaining.
@@Skankhunt-mv4vd the UK. Thanks to Islamist thugs in London throwing acid in people's faces a few years back, the sale of most acids such as these are banned.
@@Skankhunt-mv4vd I've been wanting to get into electro plating with nickel and I need sulphuric acid, but lead acid batteries aren't common here any more. At battery centres, they are only permitted to sell acid with a brand new battery so it can be done, but you'd end up with one unusable battery and a small amount of very diluted stuff
