Many of those old shacks in Union are still standing, and lived in! Although they have been added to and modified over the years. After many years of decline, Cumberland has begun to flourish again. As of 2021 the Waverly still stands and has morphed into a happening venue. 9:15 I have a t-shirt with this image on it, and some old bottles in my collection.
I remember going to the old location of the China camp with my Dad and Godfather, to do some bottle digging. We did find some bottles and other things but not anything major. Had fun though lol
I'm used to go to Cumberland and I lived in Courtney and I used to have to drive about 3 miles into the mountains and it was north of Courtney there's a hundred and something year old church up there nice little town up in the mountain it certainly not down the road Union Bay was down the road it's for my girls were on a farm but Courtney at Cumberland we referred to as Dodge
This program makes it sound like Robert Dunsmuir had something to do with Goodwin's demise during WWI. Robert Dunsmuir died in 1889, and his son James, who had taken over the Union Colliery, sold it in 1910. Goodwin was organizing unions against a company called Canadian Collieries, without a Dunsmuir in sight.
