Today's video is all about gold vs silver jewelry. How you can choose the right jewelry for you, why I wear yellow gold even though it doesn't suit me and how I mix metals. Thank you so much for watching xx Audrey
What I'm Wearing:
Mott & Bow Silk Shirt: *gifted bit.ly/3b2I1Co
Mejuri silver necklace *gifted bit.ly/2VfX5WK
Mejuri silver hoops *gifted bit.ly/2VfX6Ki
SOME OF MY MOST WORN JEWELRY
A lot of my jewelry is vintage and antique and I recommend checking ebay, ETSY and antique malls for unique pieces
My signet ring was hand made and gifted by Ruffs Signet Rings www.ruffs.co.uk/bespoke-signe...
My gold locket was gifted from Monica Rich Kosann bit.ly/2UUsZJk
My watch was gifted from Jacy Watches bit.ly/2xaJBDI
You can see my other favorite gold pieces from Mejuri here youtube.mejuri.com/Audreycoyne
MY PERFECT FOUNDATION MATCHES FOR MY LIGHT-MEDIUM OLIVE UNDERTONE
Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation in 213 (exact color match to my skin) bit.ly/2JW0sg4
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 6 (mixed with 4 or 4.5 when I'm very pale) bit.ly/2xmXzSX - I wore this on my wedding day
Years ago I used to wear Bobbi Brown foundation in Sand or Warm Sand I can't remember the exact one (it oxidized a little too yellow in the summer but was otherwise a very good match) bit.ly/39XSQUU
I haven't personally tried it, but I've also heard amazing things about Orcé Cosmetics bit.ly/3a0Az9o
I've also heard that Charlotte Tilburry offers some good olive undertones bit.ly/2xjaOE9
And also the new Dior foundation bit.ly/3ediTLl
And the Fenty Pro Filt'r Foundation bit.ly/39Yuz15 - when I swatched these they were too yellow for my skin
In the past, I've mixed green color drops or a green primer with my foundation to neutralize redness and get a closer color match :)

I've been working in the jewelry business for many years now, and would like to share my thoughts on choosing gold or silver coloured jewelry. I don't think the colour theory works 100% for jewelry. For example you look amazing in both gold and silver, and sometimes I find gold suits your even more and I'll get to that. Some people look very obviously better in one than the other, then there's people who can wear both. I've seen some people with very clearly cold undertone (pink hue) but because their hair is blond, a light gold color just looks so much better on them. Note that there's different shades of gold depending on the karat, and the alloy put into the gold. Some 10 or 14kt gold are light yellow, whereas usually 18kt or higher would be a very rich yellow. Same with rose gold, some are so pink it looks almost like copper, and others are just slightly pinker than a regular yellow gold. So try different shades of gold, as one might suit you better than the other. I personally find, if you want the colour of the metal to suit you, go with your personality and general vibe. This is from years of experience and because I find the skin colour theory just doesn't work for many people when it comes to jewelry. First, jewelry only takes very little of the space on our body as supposed to clothing and other accessories, secondly gold or silver are metallic, and work differently than just a colour. For example, polished silver coloured jewelry without stones have a hue and shine that's like knives, very clean, sharp and cold, whereas gold is warm, rich soft, and luxurious. Going back to choosing the right metal, for instance I find that, because you have a very warm presence and personality, gold has this warm glow that compliment this aspect of you. And some people appear more cold and distant, who have more of a "ice queen" kind of aura, in this case the sharpness of silver would enhance this trait. Now this is just my theory and observation. I'm not saying it's right, just putting it out there to see if people find it helpful or not at all. And I'd like to hear what others think of this theory using themselves as an example.

Thank you for this information. Especially for mentioning the "ice queen" effect. I'm a light redhead - golden frackles and strawberry blond hair. So people always tell me I should wear gold. But I just hate anything gold. And it makes me look old and boring. I absolutely love anything cool toned like silver or steel. And since I'm deffinitely the "ice queen" personality, cool metals feel much more like "me".

Very educating you guys, You don’t know how much I get inspired by others ladies even in comment section, as you said , all explains a lot ,maybe the best way is to go out and start trying different jewelry on ourselves, from your writing I realized one I had 24k yellow gold which is very yellow,as I am warm skinned it looked too shiny and light on me, then I bought 18k yellow gold and Magic happened, it was less shiny and made my skin glow, also the silver I tried ,they have different colors, those polished lighter silver never suite me,then I start buying those worn out colors or antique silver jewelry instead or buy kind of mat silver color which is not as much shiny.

I think a video reviewing how to determine undertone would be wonderful....I am a 'neutral'...so my veins are neither green nor blue but somewhere in between but for years I was deemed a Winter because I, too, have Irish coloring so dark hair, light skin and dark eyes....I could not understand why I looked OK in gold or silver when I was told just to use silver/white gold.....a more detailed approach to truly finding your skin tone would be soooo very helpful...Big Hugs Angel....great job as always...
@Magpieme98
@Magpieme98 4 года назад
I have the same colouring as you. For years I thought I was warm but I am actually neutral with a tendency toward cool. I can wear all of the colours for a deep winter and some colours for a deep autumn. Usually, the brighter, more jeweled tones. I don’t look good in rusts, browns or beiges. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mary. Funny 😄 as I purchased an olive silk shirt from Everlane last year and it suits me well 😁😁. And typical cool deep winter colors do too - in the past I would never have purchased olive anything before I realized I was neutral not a full on winter 1. . Undertones are so much more important than I realized. Big hugs

Thank you for this comment! I have a mostly Irish background, and have been trying to determine my undertone for many years. I *think* I'm neutral, but my eyes are olive green, which causes me to lean warm. My skin is light and my hair is dark, and I can't find any obvious warmth or coolness in either. If I stand next to a very cool person, I look warm. If I stand next to a very warm person, I look cool. But there are people that say that you cannot be neutral. 🙄
@dinaoreilly9483
@dinaoreilly9483 4 года назад
@@kendraaraiza7039 The best way to find out is to take two friends or family members who are distinct...veins are really green (warm) and really blue (Cool) and check your wrist against theirs....my mother is really BLUE - English and pale and clearly cool - I could see very quickly I was definitely not BLUE ...I then chose a Spanish friend of mine who is warm and had deep green veins and I could see I was not that GREEN soooo I am a neutral...LOL....it explains a lot - buckets, quizzes, techniques and categories help the majority of women decide but there are those of us who are outliers...LOL...Big Hugs and Good Luck....there really is something called Neutral just like Olive undertones in Audrey....she is rare in more ways than one...LOL
@cozybrandi
@cozybrandi 4 года назад
MerriamStyle has great videos on “neutral” skintones. I thought I was neutral as well, but we all lean cool or warm slightly, even if you’re also olive skin-toned. It just won’t be as obvious as people with more “radiant” skin tones. You are probably cool and delicate or warm and delicate, meaning you will look better in softer, muted colors. I look okay in silver and gold. I look slightly better in silver so I assumed I was cool. But bright colors don’t look right on me. A better test is to try rose gold and gunmetal, since these are less bright and closer to neutral.

You look stunning in both, gold and silver. I really admire your elegance. I'd love to watch more videos like this, I'm supposed to have a cool tone skin (deep winter). Pastels suit me beautifully, but I think I'm neutral because there are some warm tones/colours that actually look good on me, there many other warm tones/colours (specifically gold) that don't suit me well. I never comment, but I always (that you upload) enjoy your videos, there are so many new things I've learned from you. ☺️

Check your veins under natural daylight. If they're green-ish then you're warm toned. If they're purple-ish then you're cool toned. If you have both then that means you're neutral. But that's just a rough guideline and tip I saw from another video. Hope it's helpful!

Early in my marriage I was given a beautiful necklace of tricolor gold: yellow, white and rose. Since I wear that necklace frequently, it seems to coordinate well with any other metallic color. Also, in the different seasons my skin tone varies from pale to lightly tanned and this makes one or the other metallic look better. Bottom line: I just wear whatever pleases me! I can't remember which video exactly made me find your channel- but I binged a bunch after watching! (Probably ones on how to dress "french" haha) I really like your tone of voice and overall attitude. I'm going into my 30's now and as much as I love the fashion bloggers that focus on younger clothes/topics...it's just really nice to see some women that are more mature, and who are focusing on style for YOU. Not style for trends.

A wonderful video and explanation about choosing the tone of jewellery. Like you, I also have an olive undertone and wear both white gold & platinum pieces and I have many yellow gold items that I love to wear. I would be interested in a video about undertones.

I'd love to hear more on this topic (colour theory) and how rose gold fits in also. Also how do you store your jewellery? I think I'm neutral colour toned as it's not overly obvious looking at my veins. I've always thought of myself as cool tone (fair skin, blue eyes, brunette) Thankyou Audrey, such wonderful content! Take care 🙂

Hello Audrey, thanks for this lovely, informative video. I, as well have a cool undertone and yellow gold does not compliment or flatter me. Most of my jewelry is white gold and sterling silver. What I discovered in recent years is that rose gold also looks beautiful on my skin being that my cool undertone is rosy/pink. Rose gold provides warmth without clashing 😊

I too have very olive skin. I really don’t know my heritage but everyone comments on how dark I tan - I do t try to tan either🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway I wear mostly silver tone but have many gold pieces. I think shiny and matte gold combined on a piece of jewelry is so beautiful. Thank you for another lovely tutorial.

I got my colors wrong for a long time and now I'm fascinated with the subject and glad to see it addressed here. There are a lot of mistakes on the season charts for (natural) blonds and redheads. I have gray eyes, light blond hair with a little gold (warm? Not really) in it, and pale cool toned skin. Soft summer is correct for me, because there is little contrast between hair and complexion color depth (soft) and I have cool toned skin. Any bright colors/patterns make me look even more colorless beige than I already am and anything warm toned makes me look pale and sick. I love pretty jewel tones but they are not for me, sadly, and I have to stick with more muted colors. I'm convinced now after staring at lots of photos that there are no warm toned natural blonds. Blue eyed redheads are all cool I think. Brown eyed redheads with auburn hair are warm. I can imagine it's worse for brown hair/eye people to figure this out because there are so many colors of brown!

Interesting...I am definitely a warm-toned natural darkish blonde, brown eyes. My mom has a lot of Mediterranean lineage, and my dad is more Scandinavian. Silver alone looks really dull on me, and gold looks much nicer against my skin. When you do a vein comparison mine are more on the green side.l

@@dinahweisberg750 I'm N Europe descent too. I think I'm confused about what is considered blond and what is brown so I googled it. "Dark blond" pulled up a bunch of images I had thought of as towards the medium side of brown so clearly I need to recalibrate!

I have to disagree! I am a natural blonde with pale skin and brown eyes, and I'm pretty sure I am a Soft Autumn (so I have neutral-warm undertones). I was light blonde as a child and have slowly turned dark golden blonde with age. In winter I look quite neutral, but I tan very easily and turn a bronzey yellow in summer, I don't turn pink like most cool toned blondes do. Both my hair and eyes have a rich golden glow in the sun. However my veins do appear slightly blue at my wrists and green everywhere else, which is very confusing to me! 😅😂

@@GiaTheSweetPotato Yea I'm wrong, thanks for opening my eyes. I thought what most people think of as dark blond was a shade of brown. Brown eyed blonds are probably warm. My hair is very light beigey blond, but not icy as my mom's platinum was.

Gia The Sweet Potato Same! My hair was light golden straw colored as a kid, even now it lightens up a lot naturally in the summer. I’ve gone as long as 5 month without getting some of it highlighted in the salon and it was still blonde, just darker. I was classified as a light Autumn as well! I also tan easily...

Hi Audrey. I just watched your 5 classic jewelry pieces and 5 extras video from May 2018. Very straight forward, very easy to understand. Your videos are a great complement to the classic ladies' styling lessons I am getting from the stylist I am working with. I look forward to your future videos. I hope you will do a video on capsule wardrobe pieces for summer 2020.

I am corresponding with Ed Ruff to design a signet ring. I want to get it in 14k yellow gold...classic, but I want to wear it on the same arm as my Apple stainless watch. Maybe add a mixed metal bracelet next to my watch? Any suggestions?

Yes, I would LOVE a video focused on olive skin tone, particularly fair/pale olive!! I have very pale olive freckled skin, with tinges of red because of how sensitive my skin is. My hair is medium brown with a few natural dark blond highlights, all of which has a reddish tinge in the sunlight. And my eyes are almost black. The resulting reddish/yellowish/greenish/grayish/freckled skin with brownish/blondish/reddish hair means I'm kind of ALL the colors. Which results in me usually feeling like I look good in NONE of the colors. Every article or video I watch on clothing or makeup advice for olive skin tone assumes my skin is darker and more golden, so none of the advice works for me. But neither does the advice for cool/neutral/warm skin tones. It's very frustrating!

I can't get enough of you talking about color palettes. No matter how many of your videos discussing the subject I've watched, I'm still confused. I wish we could just meet and you would tell me what my undertone is 🤭🤭

Very interesting and enjoyable video. I grew up mostly wearing silver jewelry because my mom had her color analysis done when I was a kid and the lady said my sister and I had the same cool/winter coloring. Occasionally, I'd wear my gold pieces instead, but I usually felt they looked a little 'off' on me. However, my husband liked yellow gold and my engagement ring and wedding band are yellow gold, and after that, I started to find more gold jewelry that I liked. I think some gold appears more yellow than others too. Anyway, sometimes I can't fully tell which suits me best and I don't necessarily want to have to choose! So thanks for the advice on mixing metals in a tasteful and balanced way.

Thank you, thank you so much for this. I’m Olive tone as well and I like wearing silver but I have quite a number of beautiful gold pieces. I have a wedding band that is both gold and white gold, because I knew I wanted to wear both jewelry colours over the years. I’m not very good at wearing jewelry so all of these videos help so much.

For years I used think I am warm toned as I really have a yellowish skin, but for some reason I felt that golden jewelry does not suit me so well. Five years ago I stared using Asian cosmetics sunscreens and noticed that with it my face is no longer yellowish (though the sunscreens were only brightening, not changing my skin tone). And it took me another couple of years to realise I am actually cool toned, though I could not explain it in logical words before this video came out 😄 Many thanks to you, Audrey ❤️
