Never forget my dad getting this album and the climax blues band from LOUS records Carlsbad Ca Changed my life. Xo. P.S. I got My 60 reissue Les Paul now. Cheers.
I have always loved Golden Earring sadly have never seen them live but have most of their albums but Moontan has to be their finest and as most people have said this track is one of the greatest ever recorded.
@@scottkelly6386 What, no love for Canada? Granted, a great deal of great rock music has come from The Netherlands, but Canada has produced more than its fair share of great talents too, like April Wine, Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush, Max Webster, Five Man Electric Band, Rush, Joni Mitchell, Colin James, Jeff Healey, Neil Young, Guess Who, BTO, Triumph and many, many more. 😉
i'm reading barry hay's biography, entitled 'HAY'. Stories behind the songs, and all. Great. And Moontan sounds great, well mixed and produced. And a great instrumental part in this song. Wow, great stuff, makes me feel aaaawrighttt.
Ask the average person "you like golden earring " and they'll say yeah radar love is kool. They haven't experienced Golden Earring to the fullest. Great song this is one of my all tyme Rocka Rolla the whole Moontan rocks
If your circles could be spirals And your idols weren't machines If you could pick up all the signals And flash on where you've been Maybe you don't feel it at all It's your own fault, crawl boy crawl You could quit the miming Try some different timing You could get a chance to be free-- Are you receiving me? It's the pilot's plea Are you receiving me? Close to insanity Are you receiving me? Recharge your battery Oooh, Are you receiving me? If your prayers could all be answered You were given time to pay The chances would be so heavy But you'd find a better way Maybe you don't feel it at all It's your own fault, crawl boy crawl You can quit the miming Try some different timing You could get a chance to be free-- Are you receiving me? It's the pilot's plea Are you receiving me? Close to insanity Are you receiving me? Recharge your battery Oooh, Are you receiving me?
have both Moontan albums. The Dutch one and the American one. listing to the band now comes with a lot of emotional feelings. A big loss for so many golden earring fans
Moontan and To The Hilt showcased so well just how amazing this entire band was at creating complex compositions without succumbing to the complexity addiction that plagued many progressive rock bands. They made such unique decisions about how to compose their music, but never went too far. This, Vanilla Queen, and Violins from To The Hilt are probably my favorite of their proggy stuff.
Excellent album - the best song for me is ^ Are You reciving Me ^ Often hear this song on the while working on the computer even though I have this LP that I bought long ago in London . All switches in this song are fantastic Service: bass, cymbals, guitar, saxophone. * Perfect * You should have an idea and make this superb song !!! Peace Love ❤ ☮ ♫ Music ..... forever Music never dies † Long Live Rock`N`Roll ★
Big GE fan from India here. I must admit, I'd heard only one song before. It wasn't Radar Love, it was Ce Soir (because Iron Maiden covered it!). I heard they were coming to Pinkpop '19, which I was doing as part of a Europe tour, and decided to check them out fully and was blown away by the quality and variety of songs. The sublime guitar playing of George Kooymans was a particular delight. This song and the instrumental section is one of my favourite musical sections of all time now. I wish more people knew about them, I'd call them the most underrated band of all time given all that they've done. Thank you, Holland, for the rock music world's best-kept secret, I just wish you buggers weren't so humble about it. PS: India connect for trivia wonks - Barry Hay was born in India.
@@prjw73 Thanks! I will. I actually saw Kensington open for Bon Jovi - one of many shows that I attended in Europe that year. Festileaks was, well, unanimous in its "love" for that band though :D
you people are special, in that you understand this language great comments, you guys know what your talking about I DIG THIS STUFF, ITS SO FAR OUT ITS OUTTA SITE
Aha nope, was "Out to Lunch". These guys are so great. The Vanilla Queen is in my top 10 songs of all time, as indeed is this album. Thanks so much for this.
IndoMilo ......yes, you’re right of course, I hadn’t meant to sound condescending in any way. I certainly missed plenty myself as I’m still discovering thanks to RU-vid alone. I suppose I’d hoped folks (at least, those my age) would have known “Radar Love” and explored the band further? In my youth, I always did this if I thought a particular artist/band sounded “interesting” and seriously, this band has a great many excellent songs, albums for that matter. While undoubtedly a terrific number, the fact that “Radar Love” received excessive airplay here spoiled a good thing imo and to my ears, it now comes off as a relatively “weak” track. I love a ton of different music but Golden Earring has *always* been up with my favourites. I especially love lyrics and considering English isn’t even these guys’ “native tongue”, their lyrics are all the more impressive and really quite remarkable. “Moontan” is my favourite GE album but I still have several of their original vinyls and think “To The Hilt” is another gem, a very different sounding but excellent album. There’s a terrific video of the guys performing “The Vanilla Queen” live and George’s outro solo is a real pleasure (and exciting how much he’s “into” it) to watch. I’ll see if I still have it and edit it in should you be interested. Here you go, George’s solo begins at 8.28...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G-Jco-RMgDw.html
IndoMilo ......thanks, I wasn’t remotely familiar with The Beta Band and enjoyed the song. I missed an awful lot of new acts around the early to mid ‘90’s due to serious health issues. I like the band’s sound and suspect “Dry The Rain” might well grow on me. The slide-guitar at the beginning is sweet! If I’m honest, the only groups to really catch my attention around that time (perhaps a bit earlier) were REM and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I love so much earlier music but I’m not at all up on things now. Lyrics are important to me too and it just seems 50+ years ago, lyrics were more profound. I realise that’s a “generalisation” but it always seemed that way to me for the most part. I’m always interested in learning of new or unknown acts so thanks again. Did you check George’s solo? It makes me feel young again! 🤣
@@lindadote their only good song in my opinion, nevertheless a powerful song that would be able to help people get past difficult times such as having to deal with life + serious health issues. Hope you are well! I haven't seen that solo but will check it out. I'm from '91 but I like older music, today's music has failed to captivate me somehow.
Another epic classic rock track from one of The Netherlands' greatest exports, right up there with Focus, Amstel and Heineken! Greetings and salutations to everyone in The Netherlands from Ottawa, Canada, twin city of Golden Earring's hometown of Den Haag, and birthplace of Princess Margriet.
Moontan is in fact my third favourite album of all time. Behind Revolver and Nursery Cryme. But it's the Aussie version with "Big Tree, Blue Sea" than won my heart. About the 5th album i ever bought, in 1976.
still have to pull it once a year, not a bad track on it how many albums can you say that about ? dont think they got the credit they should have.. so many tempo changes, unreal.
Apart from the well-known hit Radar Love, mainly tracks such as Vanilla Queen, Candy's Going Bad, Are You Receiving Me, and Just Like Vince Taylor indicate Golden Earring's power in the early 1970s. And the fact that the songs were long for the time and the intended purpose speaks of either daring. The powerful voice of Kooymans, vocally supplemented by Hay (and also by Patricia Paay), somewhat angular riffs, and unique percussion make Moontan a piece of Dutch glory that cannot be denied. Not to mention the bass work (listen carefully to Are You Receiving Me).
I saw Golden Earring on their "Moontan" tour way back in the day....I think they might have opened the show for KISS on their "Hotter Than Hell" (second album) tour....I can't remember. "Radar Love" was a hit on the radio at the time....funny, their hit song is actually the weakest one on the album! (in my opinion, anyway)
Pitty that this ( THE BEST) Dutch rockband, the first one I went to, and one of my favorites! never really made in de USA. Except mayby with their htsingle Radar love...
