Before Rose, Betty White played the flirtatious "Happy Homemaker" Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She'd have given Blanche a run for her money.😉
I saw an interview with Betty. She said they originally offered her the role of Blanche. She didn't wan to do it because Blanch was too much like Sue Ann Nivens.
She did “sort of” reprise her role in the love boat when she was a cameo guest star on the show. My mom has been watching it recently and that’s how I know this now.
The insults in this show from all 4 of these legends weren’t just savage & like a “kick in the nuts”… They were like getting hit in the nuts with a bag of bricks 😵😵😵. I can only imagine how epic the blooper reels would’ve been 😂😂😂

One of my favorites is when the girls are really sick and Blanche is looking for her heating pad and dorothy has it under her blanket. Blanche "dorothy have you seen my heating pad?" Dorothy-" no i haven't. Blanche "well if this isnt it then I'd like to know what other electrical device you have under this blanket!"

Young people today just couldn't handle it. The comedy From the 70s 80s, 90s,They would literally flip out. Look at married with children. Carol Brunette , Sanford and son, All in the family
They didn’t include the rest of that scene where Sophia tells Blanche “It’s not going to last long.” Blanche then says that she and that man are meant to be together and Sophia said, “I wish I could say the same about your thighs.” When Blanche gets upset and leaves the room, she said, “I’m not gonna stand for this.” Sophia said, “Take it away, Dorothy.” Dorothy says, “But I bet you’ll lay down for it.”
Those women were savage but they were also the best of friends. If you haven’t watched the show or aren’t a little bit familiar with the characters, you miss a lot of the subtext. Like when Sophia told Dorothy jealousy was ugly and so was she in anything backless, Sophia was saying that to her own daughter.
The writing for this sitcom is so incredible. It is above everything else I watched on Tv since the 80s. Well, the writing of Breaking Bad is maybe. But that isn't a sitcom.
If they made an un-censored version of this show today, I can think of one lady who would be an ideal cast member… “Angry Grandma” (aka: Judy). Those who are subscribed to her channel will know what I mean 👍😆
Ah, The Golden Girls... One of the funniest sitcoms ever. And you couldnt make this series no, in today's hyper walking on eggshells avoiding to not offend anyone culture.
