The 2015 Investec Derby saw a second win in the race for jockey Frankie Dettori, as he steered the brilliant Golden Horn to success for trainer John Gosden.
The Cape Cross colt would go on to secure three more Group 1 victories in 2015, landing the Coral Eclipse, Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe to cap a sparkling three-year-old season.

Hats off to racings superstar Golden Horn, wonder horse, steered home beautifully by Frankie. No disgrace for Treve, just wasn't her day. Mention for Arabian Queen, how did she ever beat Horn the machine ?

Congratulations to Golden Horn on passing the 13 million dollar mark in his first year at Dalham Hall Stud. He has already covered more than one hundred mares, has forty five already booked in, as well as another five late bookings. His fertility rate is currently ninety three per cent.This surely proves beyond doubt that the Derby at Epsom remains the most valuable race in the world and the one every flat racing fan wants to win.

This horse just oozes ability and class. He has all the hallmarks of a champion and in my opinion will be one of the greatest middle distance horses of modern times if not alltime. He has the temperment, tactical speed in abundence, versatility in running, a beautiful relentless high cruising gallop and an incredible motor with gears that most horses don't have. I might be premeture with my opinion but i feel he will win every race he enters this year culminating with a win in the Arc. The only way i can see Golden Horn being beaten is if he has trouble in running or is injured in a race. Visually he's the best horse i've seen since Frankel and Orfevre at his best in Japan. I'd also go as far as saying he's the best horse Cape Cross has sired and that includes the great Sea The Stars.

+SoulSurvivor1979 have to disagree - I really like Golden horn but Sea the Stars would eat this guy!

What a twist of fate for Dettori, he very probably could have been on Jack Hobbs if Godolphin hadn't bought him, Golden Horn is definitely one of the better Derby winners, it's just a pity he's not making that great a impact as a stallion.

Looking back on it now with 2 more Derby's having since ran, from top to bottom, this was a very weak field that Golden Horn defeated in what was a very weak renewal of the Derby. Jack Hobbs is really the only other horse in the field who's gone on to accomplish anything, and he's only recently finally gotten on the board himself with a major G1 stakes win back in the spring in Dubai after having been only multiply G1 placed until he finally broke through at Meydan. That being said, I can't say the 2 fields that have made up the 2 Derby's since have been much better either, IMO. Golden Horn was champion for sure though, because what the Derby lacked in talent the Arc field that he defeated more than made up for.

I think we have another Sea The Stars on our hands,. Of course he'll have to win the Eclipse, Juddemonte and Arc for this statement to stand.. I believe he'll take the first two without much fuss.. but if he was to beat Treve in the Arc, especially on good-to-soft ground.. He'll have earnt his place along side such superstars like Sea The Stars...

Golden horn to beat treve is my excited gamble of 2015 got him at 5to1 :) Do you think vautour will go for the King gorge?
@leesog3203
@leesog3203 9 лет назад
aaron bong Great chance, the only way Treve makes history is if the ground comes up soft in any way and if she brings back her form of 2013, which is kinda unlikely.. so Golden Horn is in pole position.. and I'm not sure bro, I have backed him myself, in a double with American Pharoah (5/1 and 3/1) but a lot of people think Willie will keep him in Ireland over Christmas, and then take on the big-guns in march..
@leesog3203
@leesog3203 9 лет назад
***** Coneygree is certainly the one they all have to beat.. but when you have Vautour, Don Coassack, Saphir Du Rheu, and possibly Djakadam breathing down his neck.. I'd be happy to take him on, but it depends what he goes off at, on the day.. I even hear Simonsig is on the comeback, and he's working as strong as ever, so there's another spanner in the works for Coneygree.. and I don't think we should forget about Many Clouds so quickly either.. So there's a lot of competition when it comes to the next renewals of the King George/Gold Cup..

My biggest ever bet. 10k on Golden Horn at 5/2. I panicked as Jack Hobbs went odds on in running and layed the whole lot off. What an absolute plonker 25k out the window.

Okay...a brilliant result...believe it or not, I had £ 2@150/1 and £2 @140/1 on him before the Dante- that's all I could get on , on Betfair. The owner was convinced he'd never get more than 10f. .. I've no idea what horse HE was watching. Subsequently, played up my winnings on The Arc ( still more than 10 f) So, my question is (a) do owners actually know their horses, whilst breeding is a good clue, it's not total gospel , and (b) when Sheikh Mohamed, brothers, Godolphin et al realise they are going to have to eat humble pie and use Coolmore stallions instead of trying to buy ready-made Classic winners( Jack Hobbs being the most recent) Whilst they won't do that on whatever principle, they can spend an awful lot of money on producing....expensive crap.... their glory days were quite a while ago....

Absolutley true ! The owner was quite categoric that nothing in the family had stayed further than ten furlongs. Cape Cross, his sire, seems to do very well at Epsom though and he may have remembered the Brigadier in1971 who was considered a non stayer by the Hislops, did not run at Epsom but later the following year proved he did stay. Imagine how that must have tortured the owners though I doubt he would have beaten Mill Reef anyway !

MrNonch1 very few Cape Cross horses stay this far, the ones that did stay however were champions, STS and Quiji Board too, brilliant sire

Of course! Its also easy to write a champion off because of 1 sub par performance..but champions bounce back..that is what defines them..Treve has been magnificent in the past three Arcs including this yr..but three peats at that level are VERY hard to do and RARELY done in any sport..

Frankie's ride won the Arc. Jarnet cost Treve the Arc settling her near the rear of the field.

+jon1357911 no need to be rude old bean.....frankel was a great horse....and to win any group race you are gonna beat group winners "moron" i just think frankel was exceptional in an unexecptional era...whats wrong with people like you?? does everyone have to share your opinion otherwise its a kerb stomping......anger management issues unresolved methinks
@GeorgeFreeman55
@GeorgeFreeman55 9 лет назад
***** so winning as many group races as frankel did you are not likely to beat group winners?? i take it you are polishing off the fifth spliff....frankel was a great horse...i just think he had an average era in which to great....the fact he didnt go to the breeders cup.....he was great but he never continually raced against other greats.....like some others horses in history have done..
@richardmitchell8482
@richardmitchell8482 8 лет назад
+arthurV cat - its always interesting to compare - Golden Horn's win in the Arc was brilliant - but Frankel brained Canford Cliffs who in any other era would have been a giant as distinct from a superstar in the Sussex. But the Horn and Frankel are both great horses
@GeorgeFreeman55
@GeorgeFreeman55 8 лет назад
yes two great horses...but yes i think in reflection frankel was the best....its just a shame she never ran in the breeders..although it is hard for our horses at the end of an hard season to do themselves justice there as we saw with golden horn...who did brilliantly after such an hard season..Richard Mitchell
@wayneg6831
@wayneg6831 8 лет назад
+arthurV cat why the obsession with the breeders cup??,Dancing Brave got beat out there and if he got beat then frankel could certainly get beat,I' say Frankel would beat GH but I wouldn't day either are in the same class as Dancing Brave or El Gran Senor who would beat both at 1m-1m 4f
