Our golden retriever is 4 weeks pregnant! Join us and our sweet Pepper as we discuss what the fourth week of dog pregnancy is like.
If you plan to confirm your dog's pregnancy via ultrasound, this week is the ideal time to do so. The puppy embryos are now roughly the size of a walnut and easy to be seen (a good reproductive vet may even be able to give you an estimate on how many pups to expect).
It's also time to limit your dog's play - nothing rough or strenuous. Week 4 is one of the most formative for your girl's pups, and they are most vulnerable to damage and developmental defects at this point in the pregnancy. Additionally, bear in mind that reabsorption is still possible until day 39.
This week, the puppies will reach roughly 20% of their size at birth. Their organs now fully developed, they will develop fingers, and sensory hairs on their chins, eyebrows and noses. Their ribs and leg bones will also ossify this week!
