Where did Wendy get her puppy? I was just wondering because I’m getting a puppy soon and they also do training before hand and when she said they already Did crate training I was thinking maybe they could be from the same place.
@@milliescarrots_5472 Actually, we did. The golden retriever was bred to retrieve shot waterfowl, and they did particularly well at that because of their soft mouths. Without humans, the golden retriever we know and love today wouldn't exist. Wolves (canis lupus) back then benefited so much from humans that they grew to love us, to the point they evolved to understand our feelings and release oxytocin (the love hormone) when interacting with their people. The dogs we're familiar with now, canis lupus familiaris, are the result of domestication by our ancestors. Dogs and humans share a bond.
For sure. I’ve had a few huskies and man it’s no joke them being labeled #1 HARDEST breed to train. So bad to the point training a golden retriever puppy feels like a piece of cake haha.
Im 55 , got my first Golden when I was about 9 . Have owned puppies , rescues , partially grown , Hunters , lap dogs the entire gambit.... I have an 8 week old right now thats about twice the size of a regular 8 week old. The second I hear Gate or crate I hear , Dont want to be bothered...Ive talked to owners over the years that stuck em in the crate then stuck the crate in the basement or another room where you cannot hear the whining... So right from the start , you go and collect your puppy from the breeder where he/she was surrounded by its siblings constantly and was never alone as well as being in a familiar place . You take the dog , drive it home , gate it off to separate it from you and then stick it in a crate so that you can get a nice peaceful night of sleep. Sounds like a great deal for at least half of the equation here.... If you didnt want to be bothered why did you get a dog in the first place ? I can assure you the night time fun you have with a puppy is nothing compared to 5 thousand Dollar TPLO surgeries and being up all night with that or the many other things that come with older dogs... I guess we should just stick them in a box as well so that we arent bothered with those issues.. If you had a baby would you bring it home from the hospital and lock it in a crate and then go sleep nice and sound ? Or better yet , you adopted a child from a family who is trusting you to supply everything they did before you took it...So you brought it home and locked it in a cage and went to sleep.... Again , I am 55 , I have heard all of the arguments made by people over the crate since the inception of them . Excuses is what I hear.... Having been cradle to grave with quite a few Goldens over the years , the puppy phase is nothing compared to what you face in its entire life. Youve just ripped a baby from everything that its ever known , its mother , its siblings . Get up in the night and take it out , enjoy the puppy zoomies that are making you crazy in the front yard at 3AM as I was doing just this past night as I was freezing. Form a bond immediately with this dog and live up to the bond you took it from... Or , just leave it there... Tik Tok and youtube and all of this social media has caused this huge Golden come back . Fact is most of the people buying them shouldnt have them . This is evidenced in the amount of dogs that end up in shelters or passed off a few times only to land in a kill shelter later because it developed issues (Yes , ive owned a couple of those too).
I had a golden lab when i was till 4 but we had to give it to a friend bc me and my brother were like getting allergies( we dont have allergies anymore) and my mom said that was like one of her biggest regrets so ever since i was 10 (im 13) ive been CONSTANTLY asking and asking, specifically a big dog. last week my parents surprised me that we were getting a goldy retriever, and omg i was so happy and i cant wait to get it this weekend☺️
So the question is number 12. When you do catch the puppy in the act of going inside and you spirit them outside, do you quickly carry them outside, or make them walk outside?
we have a long drive with a new puppy to get it home (10hrs!!). Do you have any suggestions on how to approach that and make it as easy as possible on the puppy? thanks.
Hi there! Here’s a video that will help you prepare for that trip: Your Complete Guide For Bringing A New Puppy Home - Bringing Home A New Puppy Episode 1 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--vlo84vDSlY.html Happy Training!
I am still deciding whether I should get a golden a retriever or not. I know they are a very friendly dog and they have all the qualities that I want but I am uncertain if they will make a good watch dog??
Golden retrievers are individuals so it can be difficult to say. Our golden would bark if someone came close to the house if he noticed them. Generally though, goldens are too friendly to make good guard dogs. As they are vey social, it's not a dog to just leave alone in the yard - they want to be next to you.
I’m so sad I can’t even get a present for birthday and Christmas. So there is now way my mom is going to let me have on because she is gonna think she will do all the work
Hide a lot of food in your room and then tell her you're going on a hunger strike. No, just kidding. You know right now with the virus circulating there is a need for people to adopt from animal shelters. Maybe a temporary adoption is available. Check on-line in your area. A temp. stay with you might turn into a permanent stay if your mother approves. Good luck!
Hi there, Ema Pro! A crate is a great way to make sure your puppy is safe when you aren't able to supervise them. It's also really helpful for your puppy to know that they have a space to be that is all their own! Thanks for watching! ~Ken
I have a Golden who's already two. He's easy to train. I got him when he was 8 weeks old. After 2 months, he's completely potty trained. Crate training is a must. BUT one thing to consider about Goldens, they're so mouthy. Mine took awhile to stop being mouthy. Be consistent with your pup and set boundaries. And most of all, love and cherish your puppy. Take plenty of pics, they grow so fast!
@@sydinmargiela she's great, 22lbs and a damn handful! She's still working through her puppy biting which is getting old fast, it's possible to play with her a tussle with her breaking the skin at some point. I'm doing what I can to work with her and avoid that behavior. Lately I've been just letting her bite her toys until she's calmed down some then I'll play with her hands on. It's been a lot of work on mine and her part. I work 8 hours a day so she's usually alone in her play pen with her toys. However she's adjusted to the schedule pretty well, she sleeps most of the day or plays in her pen and when I get home we play fetch for a good hour to get that energy out before dinner lol.
I have had dogs of all breeds my entire life. The Golden is a unique breed, extremely intelligent and eager to please. Devoid of aggression and likely to embrace and lick a burgler coming into the home. I've remedied that tho, I bought a female Rottie.
@Pro Justice So the reason why puppies should be left with the litter at least 8-12 weeks is they learn from their siblings how to interact properly with one another. i.e. good bite/bad bite. In your case exercise the puppy to expend his energy. More relaxed after exercise. Don't hit the dog! A pinch on the side jowl provides correction from unwanted behavior. This simulates what the mother (dog) would do. Give it time, its a puppy. Golden puppies need exercise!
The soft frisbees work fantastic. My Golden is 4 months and 1 week old. I have had him for 5.5 weeks and in that time frame I have taught him to retrieve his frisbee, drop it at my feet and he’s ready to go again. After about 10 throws, he’s ready for a puppy nap. 🤣. Love the soft frisbees with the rubber rim. Got mine at petsmart.
German shepherds and golden retrievers make the best doggie siblings. They complement each other’s personalities so well. That’s what I’ve got. The best of friends
@@moggie lol i always thought my parents were crazy for not wanting one but now that i have my own i more than understand where they are coming from. I havent slept for more than 3 hours in weeks
Please really really consider this decision. I was told that Goldens is great and loving. Mine is terrible. She's aggressive, stubborn, and not loving at all. She destroyed every single thing I've gotten in my living room and patio. Even my other dog's dog bed and crate was destroyed by her. She never stopped destroying anything. I've done everything anyone has told me to do. Nothing worked.
i just adopted my first golden retriever! a beautiful girl (who we haven’t decided on names yet) this really helped! we’ll be picking her up august 21st or 22nd! can’t wait to be with her!
Meark Baow same bro I can’t believe that my mom is scared of a dog. Like I’ll take care of it for at least 50%. My mom just hates pets and I am the complete opposite
@@imjusttoogoodlmao8281 :-) I did. I chose the runt as I had been following her since the day she was born at 0.7 oz and the size of a large mouse. Her name is Vločka. She is my problem child and I love her to bits. I have also discovered that I suck as a trainer.
I just found out I’m getting a puppy and it’s going my to be a golden retriever!! I’m going to call home Thor. Thanks for the help I feel a lot less anxious about bringing him home now.
That's great, Elizabeth! We have lots of videos on the channel that will help Thor to be a well-behaved family member! Have fun with the training process. Thanks for watching! ~Ken
Wow I’m still asking my mom for a golden and even though she hasn’t completely said yes we already thought of the name Thor lol. We’re BIG Avengers fans.
As a veteran golden owner the most important things to know: 1. Be prepared for chewing. They chew like maniacs until they are at least 2. Highly recommend buying Kong products as they seem to be the only thing they can't destroy in 5 seconds. And I mean DESTROY. 2. Golden's think any attention is good attention, and as smart as they are they are complete ditzes you can be screaming you guts out and they will just look at you and wag their tails. 3. Retriever is in the name and they are obsessive. They like to bring you "gifts" this is hardwired into them and they will start exhibiting this behaviour even before you start training them to fetch. My current golden has to bring anyone who comes to the house a shoe and will run around crying until that person acknowledges their "gift." I have another one who did that with pillows. They all have their thing. 4. And finally do NOT train them to shake a paw you will live to regret it. I always forget it when I get a new puppy and then after pushing a paw off of me for the hundredth time I am kicking myself. Learn from my mistakes. Yes, it may be cute but goldens are stubborn and they will use this power against you.
Me and my sister had an abbisin cat, but he ran away last month😭😭😭 So we were asking for a puppy for a whole month, and our parents told us that we can get a golden retriever in summer, on my birthday (June 3) and I learned a lot from this video, the training was the most important part for me, thank you for sharing with us❤️
It's upsetting to hear that you'd scold a puppy for a mistake *you* made, she's a puppy and is learning where to go to the toilet. If she has an accident, that's YOUR mistake and your responsibility to be keeping an eye on her. Scolding just teaches them to do their toilets in corners or out of sight.
my golden is coming home in 20 days and i was worried because i am a teen and my parebts romised me the dog only if i take care of it and i promised to do everything for the dog and i was soo tensed so i was browsing for videos but the other videos were tooo long and they nmostly blabbered unnnecery stuff but in 10 minutes u gave soo much info on how to keep tem dafe and everything i needed to know. i am a little less scared now thank u
Love the breed! My son has 2 of them. The only thing I cant deal with is all of the hair. Unfortunately that is a deal breaker for me. These dogs are one of the most loving and affectionate I have ever seen.
@@amgsince2017 If the dog breed has “oodle” in the name, I’m not getting it. Like seriously people pay like $7000 to get crossbreeds which most of the time have diseases or disorders
They are an amazing breed, Eunice! And you'll be ready for the training process when you get your puppy, since you're already watching our training videos! Happy Training ~Ken
I'm getting a Golden Retriever puppy in less than a week and I've been spending my sleepless nights of excitement watching your videos 😅😂 thanks so much for your informative, concise, and helpful content I'm just so excited lol aaaaahhhh
I had four retrievers before and I always was nervous about leaving them alone near the pool. Never had a problem. But I am going to purchase a new puppy. Any tips for pool safety?
We trained our red golden (Stuart) at your facility 14 years ago. He’s since passed and we now live in Georgia, USA. We have another golden (two in fact, a 1 y/o English cream and an 8 week old red). I couldn’t believe when I looked up tips and saw your logo. We had a great experience training our old boy. Sadly we can’t do it again but thanks for the tips!
