What annoys me is that Rare keeps saying that platformers are dead (and that's why Nuts & Bolts turned out like it did). Ever since Microsoft bought them, they've been shitting on their fanbase and further cementing their status as a has-been corporation. Microsoft has nothing to do with that.

@Dopeboi3 Actually, it's a computer term. Take for example a picture. The smaller it gets, the worse it looks. That's the idea of compression. Since the N64 didn't have much cartridge space, everything had to be compressed to make it all fit. Now that you (hopefully) understand that, go listen to the regular soundtrack. You'll notice that it sounds nowhere near as good.

It's often because we've grown to love, and grow up with what is a very retro feel. Same goes with fashion, art, or other interests that may be deeper routed in traditional roots. Techincally the sound quality is better here,but you don't have to enjoy it more. That tinge of digital compression is often a trait some people pick up on, and why you see a lot of songs turned to 8 bit.

Strange how the Piano (?) sounds so much different in this version than the regular. You can tell right away that the quality in this one is tons better, but I swear the Piano or whatever it is sounds better in the regular version

Ok this might be an unpopular opinion, but this is only song that I actually prefer compressed. The compression makes the dinky background piano sound like a synth, it makes the drums sound way more crisp, and it makes the main melody of the song a lot more audible.

Fast motion cheat and infinite ammo always makes this one of the most fun levels

I wonder if any more composers held onto their original, uncompressed works. By saving the original recordings Grant Kirkhope's basically given us a remastered, cleaner version of a classic soundtrack.

There's still a section cutoff after 1:41 the Bond theme would kick in right at that moment.

The N64 had "tiny" space in memory indeed. That's why it uses a tracker + compressed sound samples. It's the same as in the NES, SNES, etc.

@ARNGRIMPRO Probably. The only reason this version would get any demerits is because of the whole section cut off at the end, but oh well. It's still a great song if you're running somewhere.

Having an "HD" version of the "Cradle Song" (that sounds different than the N64 version) reminds me of all the Doom and DN3D MIDI's that sounded different depending on which sound card you had, haha. Except G64 didn't use MIDI.

The piano in this version reminds me of Attack from Final Fantasy X.

Fantastic tune. I've had a nostalgia moment and went back to hear Goldeneye's soundtrack and just stumbled on these uncompressed versions. They are amazing! I can't find my favourite one, though. The one that Plays ont he Runway level, where you must escape on the plane. Any chance you could upload that one, too, if you have it, or at least point me in the right direction to where I could find it's uncompressd version? I tried doing some searches but came up empty.

@Vicius2004 You can find the compressed version everywhere, but if it's not on Grant Kirkhope's website, that means it wasn't composed by him. That was probably Graeme Norgate.

Okay, now I'm kinda confused. Is this the same music that was passed through the N64 synthesizer, only now it's being played back through better instruments, or is this something else entirely?

@ARNGRIMPRO I do and don't disagree with you. I love this without end, the uncompressed sound is terrific, but I think I prefer some of the samples used in game. They just go together nicer than some of these do. If we could have that in complete uncompressed sound then I would be over the moon!
