Adam Fuller I kinda agree, but the best fight scene, I reckon for me in a bond film is the train scene fight between Sean Connery and Robert shaw, on the orient express from the bond film from Russia with love. For me personally it was the best fight scene in a bond film. But this was a good fight scene also.
Yes I put this one up there with From Russia Love. Super realistic and gritty. What a real fight looks like. These fights just have that natural look to them and are often not replicated. They are hard to do no doubt.
Agreed (GoldenEye is my favourite Bond flick) and FRWL's train fight is up there too. My favourite though was the train fight in Spectre (as lackluster as that movie was it did have its moments) between Bond and Batista, that shit was very brutal too. Craig broke his leg filming that fight scene and needed actual knee surgery, and said to this day still has lasting pain from the injury! Talk about throwing yourself into a fucking acting role...
Goldeneye is not just a Bond movie...IT'S A MASTERPIECE!What a way to introduce the new Bond to the series....In my opinion Goldeneye is on TOP 3 Bond movies EVER!
GE had it all. Arecibo Observatory telescope which actually is decommissioned now. Badass tank scene. Xania that strangles you to death with those sexy legs such a unique twist to a villain. 006 who is better then 007 lol (my opinion). Awesome liners. The badass Tiger helicopter. The GoldenEye weapons system which actually is a cool idea and pretty darn realistic. And lastly the music in GE is the best out of any bond movie in my opinion and yes I seen every bond movie even the unofficial Never Say Never. Oh and also a badass bond game was developed thanks to this movie. GE had best villains in my opinion jean grey can strangle me to death anytime lol she can be onatopp of me anytime hehe.
People say Goldeneye or Battlefield predicted it, but when you have a 900-ton building held up by only cables, it's not hard to imagine it collapsing someday.
Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean... both in their physical prime and kicking seven kinds of shit out of each other. Still one of the best choregraphed and most brutal fist fights in all of the Bond films. Reminds of the intensity of Connery vs Robert Shaw in From Russia with Love.
@@lindildeev5721 Hahahaha, but no. How could Sean be immortal when he continuously dies in damn near every film he's in? Lmao, he's something alright and it's definitely not "immortal" by any chance which is why Pierce would've actually won technically speaking.
Trevelyan: “From one professional to another, if you're trying to scare somebody, pick a better spot. From this height, the fall wouldn't kill me.” Bond: “I'm counting on it.”
Nataliya is low-key the best Bond girl. She rarely needs rescuing, destroys the GoldenEye herself, and even pops up in time to give Bond the upper hand on Trevelyen.
I still think Nataliya is the top Bond girl to date because she actually does all the work. She is the one that prevented Golden Eye from attacking London. Bond just made sure her mission was complete.
Just rewatched this fight for the first time in years and was really impressed by how well this scene holds up. The pace of the fight is so raw, and there's a surprising amount of good technique in there too. Trevelyan gets Bond in a cross collar choke, looks like Bond uses a Whizzer to toss Alec into those metal rods, and all the dirty boxing and the uppercut he threw were really good and rough for that era, where things tended to be more spin-kicky and slo-mo with wide angle shots. Goldeneye has a lot of tight, handheld shots of the action, seems like it helped push the action genre along for sure
Forgot to mention the arm-wrench Bond does on Trevelyan also, to toss him into the shelf. Really solid, dirty but surprisingly technical fight in a good confined space
Its a shame this version they've cut away the headbutts both guys throw at the other funny enough the matrix had the same thing removed must've been the time I guess?
It is concering though that the new magazine appears to only have 3 rounds in it. You'd think a former 00 would make sure a spare mag would be fully loaded at all times.
@@dancpfc I'm going to use realism here and guess that because Cuba doesn't use anything in 9mm that he had an ammo shortage and that was his favorite pistol. But then again, Janus started as an arms dealer for the Soviets.
@@dancpfc and the slide isnt locked back, so there was already one in the chamber meaning he didnt need to rack the slide after putting in a new mag lol
@@natedoggcata Not all semi-autos lock the slide on the last round. And even the ones that do sometimes fail to do so for a multitude of potential reasons.
@@natedoggcata That little bit did always annoy me, but I suppose it does make certain of certainty that the gun is loaded and it looks cool so I’ll give it a pass 🤣
The uppercut Bond throws at 2:43 - it only stuns Alec for a second or two, allowing Bond to land a few more shots until Alec recovers and starts in again. They're evenly matched up physically and it's awesome to watch.
whats messed up, i know its just a movie though, and havent seen it in a while, but alec does a judas on james for no good reason, (but then in the end james does it to him) he just betrays, cause he disgrees with mi6 or cause he can i guess? but its messed up, considering their litteral best buddies in the beggining of the movie.
@@ps123fan Alec actually thought of asking James to join him in betraying MI6 but knew he never would. They were friends, but Alec wanted revenge against England and wanted to basically destroy everything James had fought to protect. James did what he had to.
I'm one of those Bond fans who came to respect Daniel Craig when I first saw him in Casino Royale, but damn, Pierce Brosnan nailed it here in his first outing. Along with Casino Royale, I think Goldeneye was one of the best Bond movies ever, and included one of the best fight scene ever. These two guys looked like they were really trying to kill each other.
As ridiculous as the idea of Trevelyan surviving a fall of that height is, the upside is he gets a very fitting death, as his whole scheme quite literally caves in on him 🤣
My favorite was from Trevelyan: "You know James, I was always better!" I love this quote because "James" is an important name that's been passed down in my family and I'm tired of hearing it. My future son will be named Alec for that and a few other reasons. Coincidentally, I literally used to tell my dad when we would argue, and whose father's name was James: "I was born better than you!"
Alec:- For England James? Bond:- No, for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Mann, the Channel Islands, the Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth Alec:- Oh.............. Arrggggh
SR GARMADON he mentions that his parents were Linez Cossacks. Linez is in Austria. Unsure of how often Cossacks moved around so he could be mixed ethnically.
@@thedestroyer2alltrolls411 What I mean is the fight seen in this clip has been shortened, like the headbutt from 006 and the knee to the face from 007. Those are missing from here. Uncut version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZRR4GbaGHDY.htmlsi=KNKi4GkEj4lTZVAr
No Hollywood flash or over stylization, and not overly drawn out. Guys fighting like this even if in top shape are going to be out of breath in just a few minutes, making the shortness even better. It really is one of the best fight scenes in movies.
The hand-to-hand combat in this scene between 007 and 006 is brutal, and I believe it had to be toned down for the ratings board because originally it was more violent. Such a great intense scene, probably the best fight scene in the entire Bond franchise. Kept it simple, no music, just two trained killers in a room trying to destroy each other. You can see their training incorporates elements of judo, boxing, kung fu, and a few other martial arts disciplines
The fight was indeed toned down. Watch 1:22 to 1:34. That sequence of Bond kneeing 006 in the groin, head-smashing him to the door frame, throwing 006 down a flight of stairs, and shooting him was supposed to be a longer fight sequence. It was gonna be more violent between the 2, longer, and a separate battle in its own right before the final fight sequence that followed..
It's a bit disappointing the Craig era doesn't have a main villain who can put up a good fight with his Bond, the closest was Silva who was killed off rather anticlimatically.
That is a weird complaint as the main villain usually does not have a proper fight with Bond. In Connery's era only 3 of the main villains actually fought Bond: Dr. No, Rosa Klebb, and Emilo Largo. Dr. No wasn't a very challenging fight, Klebb got pinned to wall, and Largo was more of a brawl. Lazenby fought Blofeld in the bobsled. Moore had a brief fight with Dr. Kanaga, a duel with Scaramanga and an axe fight with Zorin on the Golden Gate Bridge. Dalton had a shoot out with Whittaker and briefly dodged Sanchez's machete on a tanker truck. Brosan had his final fight with Trevelyan, a dust up with Renard on the sub, and grappled with Gustave Graves on a plane. Craig fought Dominic Greene in an exploding hotel. While that is a few that still leaves 3 Connery's, 4 Moore's, 1 Brosan, and 2-3 for Craig without a final fight with the main villain.
@@trueblue6201 spot on. Brosnan is really the only one who had multiple proper fights with the main villain. Moore only really had one as the Kananga fight was a joke. Saying that I would have liked to have seen more of a fight with Safin
Jesus I forget how frenetic and relentless this sequence was, so many elements at play (gunplay, physical stunts, CQC, hacking), and just the perilous environment they're in.. I feel like even Casino Royale pales in comparison to how raw this action feels.
You can tell that Martin Campbell, the director of this one, also did Casino Royale. Both this and the stairwell fight from the other film are masterclasses in how to film tense but grounded fight scenes.
Fun fact, the big telescope where this fight was filmed, Arecibo Observatory, has itself collapsed irl after years of hurricane damage and neglect, making this movie accurate.
I'm not kidding, but I saw this on a recorded VHS of Bond dropping Trevelyn. I WAS PROBABLY 8 YEARS OLD and it scared the heck out of me!!!! And I still remember that line: "For England, James?" "No, for me."
I was like “finally”! Possibly because my fear (I was a similar age, 10 at the time) had been how they filmed Alec beating up Bond. The way the camera was fixed on the fighting made me feel a bit for Bond and how hard Alec was hitting him.
They're my two favourite Bonds tbh, I love Brosnan and Dalton. Of course I would've loved if Dalton had been in GoldenEye but Brosnan was still brilliant so I don't mind that much.
@@Thicc_Cheese_Dip I thought that TLD and LTK were written with Brosnan in mind bc they wanted him instead of Dalton but he was tied up with Remington Steele at the time
Even including martial arts movies.... this has to be one of /if not the favourite choreographed fight scene in a movie. Very realistic. Die Hard 2 on the wing is a close 2nd.
@@saltedpeanut1847 actually i would have added the climax sequence from License To Kill as well, sure not all of it is a fist fight but it's still well choreographed and a brutal final act.
Back when the final battle was about beating the sh*t out of each other in a real brawl looking fashion, and none of that gymnastics choreography we have nowadays.
Worth of Oscar nominations for Best Sound Editing and Best Film Editing 👏👏👏 all the punches and the antenna machineries are just precise, so are the scenes' cuts
Trevelyan: "Ok James I'm sorry, I've learned my lesson, take me in." Bond: "I can't... you're played by Sean Bean in this movie" ...5:14 In all seriousness though, Bond said earlier "I trusted you Alec" Bond trusts very VERY few people in life and Alec Trevelyan was one of those few... that's how much 006 meant to him! This is and always will be my favourite Bond movie. 👌
Two things: 1. Can we all just agree and appreciate what a colossal smoke show Natalya was in this movie, 2. Sean Bean looks more threatening with a gun than Pierce Brosnan EVER has.
*Still one of the most iconic final showdowns in film history & among the most memorable James Bond 'live or die' moments ever* 🇬🇧 *P.S.* *If you listen carefully, you can almost hear Alec Trevalyan scream in the recent footage of the Arecibo Observatory collapse*
Goldeneye was such a strong debut for Brosnan's run as Bond, but the future films just never came close. They started Brosnan off as a ruthless, cold agent, but he slowly became the smarmy pretty-boy jokester from the Roger Moore era.
To be fair most of his bones were probably broken, likely paralyzed and suffering severe internal bleeding. Alec wasn't going to live much longer after that - falling cradle or not.
look at the wing flying guy who blasted over 120 miles per hour and hit a pole/bridge severed his leg off and bled out before paramedics came... completely possible to survive that fall for a minute or two before you die. Look at the brutal car wrecks that happen... the human body is capable of taking lots of punishment.
