I tried flavor blasted goldfish for the first time (results may shock you) ru-vid.comkJ0M0BZjMek ALSO Alec’s video on this was AWESOME ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pbIAS3K9R-I.html
Fun fact: goldfish had a contest for kids in which they could draw their OC and they’d be put into the commercials. That pink fish was designed by a child and has a crush on Gilbert and she won the contest. That’s who she is.
@@gregjayonnaise8314 I AM @melon. I SCOUR THE INTERNET FOR ANY TRACE OF A MILO MURPHY'S LAW REFERENCE. YOU HAVE DONE WELL, AND I HONOR YOUR ROLE IN THE LEGEND OF THE LAMP.
The fact that they took the website down as you were making the video is fucking iconic. You began asking the questions you weren't supposed to. They had to cover their tracks
"When we look in the mirror, will we see a snack that smiles back?" is such a raw line that I'm gonna start living by it every day. I AM a snack. And I WILL smile back at my reflection. Thank you.
Oh hey, that's my video at the end! Thanks so much for the shoutout, that was so nice of you! We talked about quite a few similar things, I was laughing when you talked about if they were naked or not and the scene where Gilbert went tanning, because those moments were big pieces of evidence towards my own findings in the goldfish commercial lore. Funny you mention the Goldfish games, I was able to get footage from the Movie Maker app and the Go-Kart game for my video before I noticed myself that they went offline around late April of this year. I think they are just moving away from Finn and Friends like you mentioned, which is a shame because they are iconic. Anyway, Great video! Glad to see someone else out there who cares enough about the goldfish commercials like I do!
Now that I finally watched your video I WISH I GAVE IT A BIGGER SHOUTOUT!!!! The rabbit holes and theories you went into and created were entertaining as hell- gave you a sub! Can't wait to see more from you and maybe we can collab one day
I feel like, it’s not so much nudity they’re afraid of, but their identity being stolen. Idk, I just see the “they lost their clothes” thing too often so I wanna see another narrative.
This is what I thought!! It's like when you loose something that you feel is part of your identity, it's uncomfortable and you wanna hide, like being forced to get a haircut (or not get one) or your piercings accidentally closing up; just stuff that's personal to you
Yeah, the Heroes Wiki is really unreliable, anyone can edit it and once my friends even edited it to call America from Hetalia UwUmerica and to my knowledge it’s still up lol
@@peachymunmagenta tbf i think fandom wikis for specific works are often better monitored (assuming they arent super niche or literally just edited by children), its just the sheer amount of stuff on the heroes wiki leads it to not have the greatest moderation
@@AthenaPOfficial here’s everything I remember I think it was a puzzle game where you navigated around a different maze each level it was from a top down perspective and i remember this weird mechanic where you would find other goldfish and you needed a certain amount to press certain switches there was also a lot of giant toy robots patrolling around and if you got caught by them you had to start the level over Thats all i can remember other then the fact it was really bad
Athena, I must - MUST - know if you have opinions on the relationships other than IQ and Gilbert. As a kid, I remember thinking Finn and Brooke were gonna be together as the shows typically cishet pairing
I would always get confused by the commercials as a kid/teen because I always felt like I had missed a commercial or two, I’m SO EXCITED to dive into this subject
"...and the commercials and characters would find almost universal acclaim among families and critics alike, except for the vacuum cleaner character. All detractors seemed to aggrege in their criticisms of the character, exclaiming "It sucked!"" Though TBH now I wanna see a fan music video of Gilbert and IQ set to Rihanna's We Found Love
i currently have like. three bags of goldfish in my kitchen rn. this was the greatest marketing campaign of my youth oh god hearing the commercials legitimately gave me flashbacks. burned into my brain
this just dug up such a buried memory for me! i used to be obsessed with the goldfish ads i would find in children's magazines like nat geo kids, i would put them all together and try to piece together the lore lmao
So after watching Matpat's video on goldfish, i am now convinced that you have to make a part 2 of this lore video, because it goes WAAAYYYY deeper than the actual showmmercial (new word for dictionary after watching your video on Frindle. Definition: A series of commercials that forms a tv show.). Apparently, this show was not Finn's, or even Gilbert's, first appearance. There are commercials way back that are clearly disturbing. Not to mention there's one with the new cast actually interacting with real live humans, and what Finn says is very disturbing.😰
You have at least one gentleman who watches your videos (Me)! Honestly, deep dives into media are my favorite genre of RU-vid, and your videos have the perfect blend of comedy and actual substance! I'm a newer fan, but you definitely have my subscription!
@@AthenaPOfficial I didn't expect you to respond! I appreciate the videos you make, too! I'm glad comments like this encourage you to entertain, because after watching your Oso video, I can safely confirm you are VERY entertaining! (Love the face paint thing you do btw!)
I thought for YEARS that the slogan was “snap that child’s back” instead of “the snack that smiles back” My little kid brain saw nothing wrong with that for way too long..
"many moons ago" to describe smth that happened a month ago is so funny it breaks my mind because at this point yeah, one month ago feels like many months ago Edit: As a nerdy type who likes himbos I really wish IQ X Gilbert had been a thing 😭
I actually have a vague memory from years ago (around 2012 its such an old memory that im not even sure) playing one of the goldfish website games, it was some kind of point and click game where you’re touring around different countries and finding different objects/landmarks or something like that. i remember being stuck at the taj mahal because i couldn’t find whatever the game wanted me to find and it upset me to the point of tears, i cried over a goldfish browser game
God, this takes me back. I remember getting kinda invested in these ads as a kid, despite them being commercials for a snack I didn't even eat. I don't watch TV nowadays, so I'm wondering if they still do ads with story arcs and continuity like this still. Also, surprised you didn't bring up the prequels where a Goldfish (possibly Finn?) is trying to save his brethren from being eaten, only for them to ignore his plans or make themselves even more appetizing.
My question is why in BOTH the Goldfish AND the M&M's univerce the pretzle spisificaly is the timid one. What about pretzles as a consept sceams "I still wet the bed" energy?
Maybe IQ was… aromantic? Totally down for being alone, but also totally down for best friends? (Was still sad to see Gilbert ditch without hesitation o7)
Pretty sure there was also a commercial where they were like superheroes and the crackers were different flavored or something? It's so weird because the body is like human but the head is goldfish crackers
@@AthenaPOfficial thanks! I remember seeing them when I went to the states to visit an uncle and was weirded out by it. I also remembered the Respect the pouch stuff from Caprisun and honestly, US brands get so creative with commercials sometimes
i seriously miss playing the games on the goldfish website, i don’t have much memory of playing the games but i remember it, and im super sad about it :(
This is litetally the most amazing thing I have seen, like SERIOUSLY!! Who knew commercially about damn goldfish crackers would be so intriguing? I am so interested in these commercials, I'll actually start watching them myself! I'm not sure if you got anything wrong (very sad that the website is down, would visit it as fast as i could rn), and I am surely not visiting the wiki, but I'd like to watch the video at the end to see the similarities and stuff! You are such a good youtuber, you have great vibes and energy, and i couldn't like the topics you discuss less (even if I am not particularly interested in them)!! Thank you !
fun fact that you guys might not be aware of, but the 'outside arc' was kind of like a choose your own adventure sort of thing? a commercial would air, and then on the website you could vote to choose what happened next- the clip with the most votes was aired officially later on. as far as im aware, that was the case for all of the commercials in the arc aside from the first.
Your eyes be like: >(👁️}👃{👁️)< Seriously though, the artistic vision. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that beholder is both you, and each individual goldfish cracker. Two windows to two different souls upon the same face stare at me, and I feel compelled. Compelled for what? Idk, maybe to run for office or maybe run my car off a bridge. The snack that stares back. >(👁️}
I gotta say I just love how the pretzel goldfish is named Gilbert because, funny story that’s my grandpas last name and for the longest time he was the only way I could get them because he would go to Texas every winter and when he comes home he would bring a whole bunch because my country didn’t have them for the longest time
Man, these all remind me how commercials back in the 2000s used to have overarching plots. A few that stand out to me was this one commercial for fruit loops where toucan Sam takes his nephews on a boat ride after they find a treasure map and they declare that their pirates, so they can find the treasure that lasted like four or five commercials, or there is one where Chester Cheetah got kidnapped and all of the villains from his old commercials banned together Trying to find him and then turns out it was a guy named chef Pierre who lost to Chester in a Cheetos baking contest back when they first introduced baked Cheetos.
You literally have no idea what this video means to me because I remember being a child and the last time we ever had cable was when I saw that vacuum commercial and from that point on I kept wondering about what happened from that point. I randomly came across this video after following your channel for awhile now and this video has overjoyed me a bit too much LMAO
i spent an embarrassing amount of time on the goldfish website when i was in elementary school; i landed there reading the sides of the bags when i was younger - the basic adobe flash style games were definitely nothing impressive but i wish you could’ve found them :,)
I did not expect to see this today and I am on the floor rn!🤣🤣🤣 I didn't expect to see a whole documentary about goldfish lore to now lost media up to the point of it being taken down omg! This video made my day and now I am watching it on loop because it is so entertaining! No wonder you are one of my favorite content creators on here!🤣😆 thank you for this bread!
no fucking way Extreme is transgender no way okay but deadass I did not expect a goldfish commerical of all things to feature deadnaming / misgendering and to make it be a VILLAIN DOING IT. you'd expect it to be portrayed as good. Goldfish was going places. Mad respect to goldfish on that.
My theory with the website is that they left it up only because they believed that no one would look at it, and it would be more effort to take it down, then they noticed one buttlover had visited it recently, and basically said "SHIT ABORT ABORT". I'm very tired right now and I have no idea if the way I worded this makes any sense
I remember all of the commercials that played, however they never aired the ones after they meet the king goldfish in the sand castle for some reason. So every time they aired a goldfish commercial, it was just that one over and over again.
12:37 fun fact: I watched these commercials as they Aired and the ending could be made by viewers in the website using premade scene Chunks, I call Bs and think they had it chosen before and selected a random kid who made the same set-up to win.
1:05 you have unlocked childhood memories for me. Oh my god, I remember these things and have the vaugest memories of it being a serialized soap opera like thing I never watched enough TV to follow.
