@@Bullet730 Booker always said that "Goldie" was helping him as creative had nothing for either of them so when they were told to do the skits they both were pretty much getting paid to be at home. They were used as comic relief which Booker in the same interview had said was fun to do and gave him time to fish and relax. So when they didn't shoot vignettes or wrestle(rare occasion) they got to take care of themselves (gold dust had been in recovery and through a divorce at this time hence his lack of screen time)
@@Bullet730so based off your logic, Santino Marrelo was useless cause he didn't win alot of matches. Yet still considered one of the funniest to ever enter the square circle.
Dustin took a terrible gimmic and turned it legandary. Just a testament to his pedigree, dedication and personality! Dude is/was one of the best to ever do it!!
@@Doomthinkingman No it wasn't. He left WWF for a while cause he hated it then WCW tried having him do a different gimmick and he quit after his 1st WCW match.
Vince himself couldn’t force Undertaker to break character. Hell, he pissed off Vince by refusing to break character THAT NIGHT. But Golddust got him to break.
Dude that gimmick was so over that Howard Stern had him and Booker on his show and his ticks became a popular sound bite drop used on his show by Fred Norris 😂
Not a sole was lauging because people were making fun of folks with stutters, its because Dusty can act well. Quit being offended, my friend with no legs laughed at a wheelchair joke, wheres your skin?@@syndrac6254
@@syndrac6254grow some skin, pretty sad my friend with no legs can laugh at handicap jokes at a comedy show, but poor Goldust insults your existence. Not one of Goldusts fans were ok with poking fun at those less fortunate, we just love comedy. Fun fact Goldust daughter is Trans.
Out of all the people doing the Spinaroonie that night, Goldust did a pretty decent one. Everyone else was just passable, except for "He-Who-Will-Not-Be-Named" -- his was the worst.
@zlinedavid and gold dust was one of the few that were able to actually break taker in front of a crowd. The night of the spinarooni he made taker laugh
Anyone notice the way Ric Flair lost his mind laughing at ‘em?! Classic shit. I still watch a select group of videos like Stone Cold and nWo stuff but I Goldie and Booker more often to this day… not to many people in WWE made me laugh harder and I stopped watching wrestling like 18 years ago.
Apart from these funny segments, Goldust was a wonderfully talented wrestler too, underrated obviously. I think his funny side always overshadowed his wrestling skills
Goldust while wasn’t a huge name in the “world championship” conversation, his ability to play such an amazing part in wrestling & in ring talent deserves much more recognition than it gets.
Dustin should be in the Hall Of Fame for the simple fact that he was given a career death sentence with a like Gold Dust (I think of others who got career ending characters like Perry Saturn and the mop). But Dustin Rhodes did the impossible and showed how talented he was by not just pulling it off but elevated his career. Anyone can pull off a bad ass character but to do what he did with Gold Dust was next level. Also props to Hurricane Helmsley for (to a lesser degree) for pulling off what seemed like a DOA character.🎉❤
Career death sentence? He was given that character in his prime and was given free reign to do what he wanted to do with it. That character was not a death sentence, it was by far his best gimmick and by far the most interesting and memorable character he's ever played. A death sentence persona doesn't survive 17 years, let alone the initial 4 years. He honestly could not have played that character without the gold facepaint and attire. It's what made his acting so great because it paired so well with his off the wall personality. One doesn't survive without the other.
@@WutTheDeuceGaming came across your comment again and I'm actually shocked at how far off you were on what I was saying. It absolutely should have been the end of Dustin but because of his talent he was able to elevate "Gold Dust" and absolutely kill it for year's.
And Goldust, with that stutter, not sure if that was a result of being electrocuted or not, but that was freaking hilarious! Goldust could've honestly pinned Triple H or Ric Flair, and they wouldn't kick out because they'd be too busy laughing.
That wasn’t Taker. That was his “American Badass” character, and that character could laugh…..unlike the Undertaker character, who could NOT laugh, and never did. That’s all according to the man himself. He’s explained all of this in interviews since he retired.
I remember when Goldust first came to WWE, everyone was calling him a homo, but I always thought he was one of the best bad guys, him and Bob Backlund were on a tear in the mid 90’s,
Very underrated as a wrestler/performer. Dude was dedicated to his character regardless of the ridiculousness. Never gonna be a top of the card guy but I really enjoyed the humor and awkwardness he created.
Funny thing Goldust wasn't just a character he was a really good wrestler, he moves looked like he had real impact. Selling is one thing but being able to make something look brutal without actually hurting someone is an art.
Too bad the higher ups in back created the character and usually wrote his stuff, which I would imagine he made into his own. However, I get the vibe that they were trying to ruin him by giving him that character to begin with, then when character stuck well w the audience and received the attention, it stuck.. I mean why else would you give that character to someone. I really believe that it was supposed to be temporary at the time.
There will never be another like Dustin Rhodes. Took what creative probably regarded as a throw away gimmick or fad and completely owned it for better or worse. Made it something memorable. I still get a kick out of his encounter with Asuka. That had me rolling 😂
I love the Goldust origin story - Vince McMahon went to Dustin Rhodes and said they were thinking of adding an androgynous character and asked if he thought he could pull it off. Dustin immediately said yes and assured Mr. McMahon he was up to the task… then he went home and looked up what “androgynous” meant. Let’s just say that it was not the sort of definition he had been expecting. 😂
Kudos to Dustin Rhodes for talking this character, which could've killed all credibility he had as a wrestler, and turning it into literal comedy gold and still achieving success.
Its so cool that you see his dad in a clip like this and cracking a smile. Considering the era that man grew up in he could've completely hated the direction they had dustin go in.
They did hate it. It was just that they were professionals, and his son built an iconic character out of a terrible gimmick. He actually left the WWF(E) and went to WCW to get away from having to play gold dust. It was when he returned to the character that he made it into a popular gimmick.
