We fell into an alternate universe. Regardless, if I, Dave Williams (editor), could have a bike for every purpose (6 bikes in all), I would have a Honda Goldwing F6B for sure.

I have a 40th anniversary F6B and a 2016 road glide and I have to say I love them both but the F6B is a true joy and amazing to ride.

I was interested! He's on the balls of his feet, I'm 6'3" so I'll be flat footed on the ground! I don't like tippy toeing while I'm stopped!

The anti dive works from linked brakes and the dampeners in the front forks. I’m a really big and tall dude and my 2013 F6B Deluxe does not dive when I grab that front brake. I had to fully harden the rear end to stop the bike from slamming to the ground on bumps. It’s a great bike.

I had a bone-stock '16 F6B deluxe, (W ABS - imported from Canada to the US) and loved it. Sold it in 2020 for a new 2018 Goldwing tour DCT. What a sweet bike. DCT took a few hours of riding but now I'll never go back! Two bikes, two personalities, and two questions: 1) Have you ever done a front & rear suspension adjustment on the 2018+ GW with the new non-telescoping front forks? 2) What front & rear tire pressure do you suggest? I am 62, ride solo (not in a group), 1-up on the Colorado mountain 2-lane asphalt swisties. I am 6' 11 & 190 lbs. Have been riding dirt & street since I was a kid......but no expert. I take a 3-hr advanced-riders course once a year to keep my skills up....and learn....learn ....learn. Thanks Dave. Love your videos!

This is all coming from a Tuner’s perspective and how the bike might be set up. I have no issues with Dave’s approach. All good.

I own a 2014 f6b .Its the best bike I have ever owned.Only week points , it's heavy and no electronic cruise.Otherwise I ride this everywhere. Low maintenance ,reliable, handles like a big bike shouldnt,good power,2 up super.

Hello Dave, Interesting review. I never saw an f6b review that spent that much time on fork travel but interesting. How tall are you? I am 6 foot and sit on any part of seat and flat footed at stops. Not sure why taboo, if seat is long enough, to sit wherever is comfortable. I sit in front middle and rear of seat depending on my mood, and what muscles i do and do not want to stretch. I love this seat and riding position better than the full dress wing. Anitdive: the brake system is linked on the F6B. So whichever you use, pedal or lever, you are appling all calipers. The anti dive is only in play when using the pedal. That is how we test if anti dive is working and the bike does not have to be on, it is mechanical. You get almost ZERO travel on front fork when you use the pedal break. Some wingers disable/ shim the anti dive to avoid braking a fork seal. Others just do not use the pedal brake when approaching a curb or pot hole, etc. Hopefully you can get out and do a ride on one with a full review and see how perfectly balanced this machine is, the speed and roll on out the door awesome, definately your viewers will want a taller shield, NO ONE leaves that stock. As far as rear shock, my wife and I together are around 335 and I am on 16 of the 35 on rear shock setting. It is perfect, smooth, with no bottoming out. Take care.

Thanks for your contributions! I'm 5' 9" and seat position can make a big impact on bike handling as well as chassis balance. Are you seated in your current location due to you leg length? I'd like to get out on one to enjoy all that technology and engine!

I sit most of the time about right in the middle of the seat, when riding comma don't usually get back to where my back is pushed up against the slight backrest, yes definitely get out and ride that thing! I told my wife I don't think I will ever not own one of these!

@catalystreactionsbw

Dave Williams, editor, replying here. It is a suspension review. Suspension components and setup have the single greatest effect on how a bike rides. The junkier the suspension, the junkier the ride. Honda knows this, but they figure Goldwingers don't know any better.

I almost bought a honda F6B..almost.. I wanted to buy it, I actually showed up with $1000 deposit.. I had just sold my GL 1800 Goldwing.. I was ready and eager to buy today… so I took the F6B for a ride.. it seemed very stark and basic. The machine I was looking at was a 2013 with 1200 miles on it, I looked at it this year, 2021. After riding the machine, I could understand why it didn’t have many miles on it, it had a short windshield which could be fixed, it didn’t have reverse which surprised me. It didn’t even have cruise control..no centerstand.. I have had many fast bikes..I actually road raced motorcycles for eight years, six championships, two time national champion. So I am used to powerful bikes. But I feel the F6B has way way too much power…it is useful to have power..but.. i feel that the f6b has too much- too soon power.. That power costs in the form of weight.. that fantastic engine belongs in a small pickup truck or in a car like a mazda miata..it is overkill, and sales of the f6b reflect that..there were 2013 leftover new f6b’s still sitting in dealer showrooms in 2018.. that power costs money in the form of gas..My Goldwing had the same basic motor, the best mileage I ever got on my gold wing was 34 miles to the gallon.. that was mostly highway riding, and I was never take my Goldwing into the city to do stop and go riding. I would take one of my other machines for that. I didn’t buy the F6B. It just seemed to strip down basic, uselessly over powered, no center stand, not very good wind protection, no reverse, no cruise, it was almost useless. Or single purposed. Like having a dodge hellcat or The Corvette. You’re great to look at, they got lots of power, but they’re not very useful.. it would be kind of like having a gorgeous trophy wife that’s only good for one thing- spending money. She can’t cook, she doesn’t clean, she certainly doesn’t do windows, she’s out of control with your credit card,, she doesn’t save money, she never wears expensive outfits twice, she’s high maintenance, she does Botox’ tatoos, she’s at the beauty parlor every week, she has a bad temper,she never had a job, and to top it off, she’s stupid… which means you are stupid too…but all your friends drool when she is in the room.. that’s kind of my impression of the F6B. Beautiful bike, fast, but not a complete package.. But: I do realize that there are people I just want trophy wives and trophy motorcycles that they can admire from the nearest bar stool.. this type of water just wants to adorn their machine Pounds of useless chrome and whites and glitter and glitz and noise in the form of sound systems & loud pipes.. these types of motorcycles get maybe 500 miles a year on them. You can find them for sale, 10 years old, less than 6000 miles, never been in the rain, $12,000 in extras, but they never changed brake fluid or clutch fluid, they never had the valves adjusted, they never had the steering head bearings greased, but they sure got the computer flashed. like women, there are some that are just good for looking . The F6B to me is just for looking. so, I came to the conclusion that the F6B just wasn’t the bike for me. I was more than disappointed. I mean I took cash to put down and I was actually trying to line up ahead of seeing the bike,where we could do the title transfer that day I went to look at it. But after the test ride and looking at what it didn’t have,… I didn’t even tell the guy I will have to think about it. I didn’t even make an offer. I just came right out and told him, this is not what I’m looking for.. after I left, I deleted all the pictures out of my phone, and I have no second thoughts wondering if I should’ve bought it. In fact, I am grateful that I did not buy it..

A lot of riders are very curious about the new move by the Japanese and European manufacturers into this bagger type format, hence the number of views of the video. Agreed, this is not everyon'es cup of tea, but the same goes for 1,000cc race bikes.

How do you "review" a motorcycle in shorts and tennis shoes to begin with? How do you "review" a bike without riding it? This was truly dreadful.

Dave Williams, editor, replying here. I apologize for disappointing you. This is one of our showroom floor fitment and suspension reviews, like an "unboxing" video (hey, lets' see what we got). When we do ride a bike, properly geared up, we call it a "test." Here's an example with the 2017 Ducati SuperSport. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YGqZQ1s5hKA.html

Thank you for your comment. I've sat and watched people come and go in dealerships for decades. Some have partial gear, some have none and a very small number come in fully geared up. Gear in general today is light, my Sidi boots are very thin indeed and I never wear a helmet when I sit on a bike in a showroom. The video material here is to guide the viewer to reviewing a bike with themselves in mind verses an emotional must have choice. It is impossible to please everyone, but it is possible to have everyone begin a conversation about a bike when they sit on it and why some bikes fit them better than others. When we ride, we are fully geared up and the link Dave Williams provides you shows you a different perspective to initiate a different discussion.

Wow! It's been 8 months since I saw this and wrote a comment. I didn't even let the video run further, as I was astounded that someone taller then me couldn't put his feet flat on the floor. It became even more tedious as I watched further today. I made it just over the 6 minute mark. Measuring the suspension travel? Really? I'm not obsessed with you all, just amazed that you publish this tripe and think it's helpful!
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 6 лет назад
Dave Williams, editor, replying again. Actually, your comments have been very instructive, and I appreciate you taking the time. We'd never done a suspension eval on a cruiser before (other than the Ducati Diavel, which hardly counts) and did the F6B because, well, it was there. I think you're right. Suspension travel, and suspension in general is likely a non issue on these types of motorcycles for most riders. Almost nobody is ever going to ride them hard enough for it to matter. That said, if we had the money to throw at it, I would put fully adjustable suspension on an F6B, have Dave Moss set it up properly, and then conduct back to back test rides between it and a stock F6B with riders like yourself. The handling improvements would be mind blowing even at cruiser speeds.
