Hi Todd and thanks for another great video. At 6:00 minutes in the video you talk about the "Straight Line Motion" which looks so easy to do but every time I try to do that my lead arm wants to bend as well. I have this problem with my regular golf swing as well and found when I bend my lead arm in my back swing I have no consistency and my swing is all over the place. Any thoughts on this?

I have been trying to get my 65 yr old swing on-plane and thanks to your instructions on RU-vid, I can now hit it much straighter with less effort and the process is starting to make total sense. I’ve never hit the ball better! Thanks Todd!

so do you tilt first and then grip with the left hand?

Another great lesson. Thanks Todd. Since I have changed my swing to the single plane after watching your videos, I have never hit my driver or irons better. Still working on short game, but what a big difference you have made to my golf game. Dave

Deze Todd, I have changed to the single plane swing and it realy works for me. You teach addres and grip but i’ve noticed that in almost all of your video’s you already have the club in your hand when you set up. That is a bit confusing.
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf Год назад
I teach you to learn the address then Grip and not to grip first - once you practice it , you no longer have to think about it because you have mastered it
@chrisbilling2229

My issue with my grip is always the feeling like grip separates from the club at the top of my bsckswing which causes the club to turn in my hand.

Moe used baseball I see you’re doing the overlap
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf Год назад
Moe Never used baseball grip. A baseball grip has the thumb to the side of the club. He also used overlapping his entire youth until 1994. Every tournament he played and won, he used overlapping grip.

Hey Todd Great job of clear and concise instruction. I originally learned the 2 plane swing as a child from Tommy Armour’s book written in the 40’s. Then started to add one plane elements that were being taught in the 90’s, learned that the 2 don’t mix well from Jim Hardy in 2006 in his DVD series the Plane truth about Golf . Also learned about Moe Norman’s single plane about the same time but didn’t Like the look of his swing. So it seems like there are 3 distinctive swing types . I have what I consider to a very good iron game “ still hit a 2 iron about 220 “ but always struggle with Driver accuracy was considering trying the Single Plane out but only for the driver and keeping my iron game in tact. Any thoughts on this ? Thanks Todd.

Question if anyone can answer. The skipping the rock angle of the right hand on downswing. I would like to know the extent of how flat you rotate your right hand. In this video Todd has it about 45 degrees through the beginning of the downswing but then really flattens as he gets closer to impact.. I would like to know the ideal angles as flatter seems to produce more lag but does it deliver the head consistently square at impact

Todd, you are an excellent instructor, I bought the book and watch your videos. Your explanations about body mechanics relating to the single plane swing brings it all together! Thank You

Hi Todd I live in France ,been watching your videos on how to grip the golf club,just out of this world. Thank you so much keep them videos coming,because nobody tells you theses things.wish I could come and see you perhaps one day..

Todd, I just wanted to say, that I’ve watched 100s of videos, and by far yours made the most sense. I play my clubs like a baseball bat, and once I made my adjustments to your complete setup, it has changed my game. Awesome videos and I appreciate your help. Thank you!

Thank you for explaining the thumb bridge. I could not figure out how to maintain the extended thumb on the back swing. That was an "AH HA!".

I just love this theory/framework Todd has built by reverse-engineering Moe's swing. It's logical, consistent, it's almost as if you could create and prove Theorems about the whole structure. Will it make me actually able to hit a golf ball and get around a course? I have absolutely no idea (although Todd would say that, in theory, if you copy Moe then you copy his results). But it's sure fun to try.

I think I heard that Moe was left handed, therefore his lead hand being the dominant hand, do you believe this had an influence on his swing and grip or his follow through, thanks
@calypso625
@calypso625 3 года назад
I have been trying to find information on this for a while without success. I'm the same as Moe, swing lh but dominant rh. It's the compete opposite dynamic to 90% of golfers and presumably teachers

I play golf LH, but my dominant hand is right. My question to Todd is, will this slow down the training of the Moe Norman golf swing.

Question Todd. If the club face is square at full extension yet the proper ball striking technique is to have natural shaft lean with hands leading, wouldn’t that be pre full extension and therefore the club face would be slightly open?
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 2 года назад
No - tilt of body allows club to be square
@clintmardis

What size grips are used for this swing Method?
@rbndlrs99

On that tilted position, is the golf club’s face squared towards the target from your point of view?

yes.

I love this single plane swing, however, I am confused because I use the 10 finger baseball grip which is what Moe used in his later years. Now what do I do?
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 3 года назад
It’s not baseball. Overlap unifies the hands
@darrenfitzpatrick5331
@darrenfitzpatrick5331 3 года назад
Thanks Todd. Assuming correct hand position in relation to the club and body at address ,can you use and interlock grip or is overlap the only way to have the correct grip position?
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 3 года назад
I dont recommend the interlocking grip. Overlap is best to get the wrists working together.
@maeu59
@maeu59 3 года назад
I see you have no shaft lean at impact if there’s shaft lean wouldn’t that leave the club wide open
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 3 года назад
There is shaft lean at impact on irons. that is the only way to strike the ball correctly. The club is not open.

I'm excited to get started. Did online club fitting. Is there anything I can do to get started or will it be detrimental to practice with poorly fitted clubs? (Irons are up 1.5* and 1 1/2" longer)
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 3 года назад
It depends on how poorly fitted especially lie angle. Lie angle is very important for the Single Plane address to impact.

@@ToddGravesGolf Can I practice with driver only until irons are made?
@scottarchuleta3951

@toddgraves would you agree that if you have a great address and grip that the rest of the swing kind of takes care of itself?
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 3 года назад
No. I don't agree with that. The motion of the goal swing is learned and trained. For example the pelvis stability, as you rotate in the backswing, is a trained phenomenon. It doesn't jut happen because you have a good address position.

@@ToddGravesGolf thanks Todd. I’m about four months into my change from a conventional swing to a single plane swing. There have definitely been a lot of growing pains during that time. But, I’m finally starting to feel like I’m building some new motor patterns. Right now I’m pretty good on the range but I haven’t been able to consistently take it to the course yet. It will come though. Before I started this I was a scratch to 2 handicap. Right now I’m a 4. But I’m confident that in a year from now I’ll be a plus handicap. Love the content. I refer to your videos just about every single day.
