Excellent advice I've heard, at 20+ handicap, whatever you think you can hit at the range, subtract 10-15 yards on the course. As you lower your handicap, subtract less. Another good piece of advice, use the back green distance number, not the middle.

distance control, the most underrated skill of all

Totally agree! Everyone wants to talk about distance.......... If folks want more then go to the gym! If you want to shoot lower scores and have more fun on the course then work on distance control.

Absolutely! I love this test because it makes you think outside of hitting every club 100% and getting locked into what they "should" go and find what you hit best and feel most comfortable with.

@@golfsciencelab I've been banging this drum on my channel too Cordie. I see so many folks playing golf by numbers. Playing 14 clubs doesn't help either in my opinion. Sadly common sense doesn't mean common practice.

The easy swing is the best swing. Ego gets you hurt.

would this strategy (hitting 80%) also affect the shaft flex to be used? for example, a 100 mph swing speed generally means a stiff flex and a 90 mph swing means using a regular flex shaft

I’m watching this video and looking in the background and said to myself, “this looks so much like the course I grew up playing, I’m getting some Cherry Island vibes!” Is this indeed Cherry Island Golf Course in Eleverta, Sacramento, California

Keep in mind his Wedge is probably a 41 deg, which is the8 iron in old money.

I think it really depend on the distance - you guys would not say that about a club for an 80 yard shot …because it’s not a long distance… 125 and below are money distances… dispersion should be covered by a blanket!! 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Just a question for anyone here. I'm getting to know my distances accurately now off the fairway with my irons. But what I'm wondering is on average how much longer do you guys hit it off the tee on a par 3 in compared to a fairway into green shot?
@doug2993
@doug2993 3 года назад
excellent question, I THINK I remember Phil M saying it's about 5 yards more off a tee.

Don't know how this works but at 23 years old my 5 iron is my 150 club and my next would be my 4 irom and my 5 wood to go for that distance, but I can't hit these clubs to save my life so I guess im never gonna get there huh

@@finbar481 6 iron is the 150 club. Don't know how to gain distance. I work out and nothing. I add manufactured shaft lean, nothing. I am gaining strength but not swing speed and I don't know how that doesn't correlate. I am scoring mediocre for my short game, but I can never reach a green in reg due to distance.

@@aceofdimonds6902 hey you got back to me, nice one. Golf is not all about strength it's rhythm and timing, ball strike, the hinge etc. Maybe take a couple of lessons with a pro and find that missing gem that could help you gain distance. Mind you there's a lot to be said for knowing your yardages for each iron especially if you can repeat it. Maybe try playing shorter courses. I always steer clear of courses with anything over 400yds for a par 4. And par 3's that require a driver off the tee🤦‍♂️ I play for fun and there's no fun in that. Good luck with your game buddy.

@@aceofdimonds6902it all comes down to how efficiently you strike the ball, i.e. how well you contact the ball with the club and where on the club face you do so. This is why you will see players, like for instance, Davis Love III, David Toms (showing my age) or for the younger crowd Joaquin Niemann. These are guys who are smaller in stature, and by just watching the smoothness and fluidity of their swing, ones you wouldn’t say are swinging outta their shoes or are totally crushing the ball. But, if you stop and take a look at their numbers, these smaller, thinner guys are able to keep up with, and many times surpass some of the longer hitters on tour. They are able to do this by being so efficient in the way they strike the golf ball. It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but it’s all in the way the dog strikes the ball. Learn to use your position, motion, body, hands, and head putting them in better positions and sequences in you golf swing to find that nice, smooth, effortless golf swing that in return produces what they refer to as “sneaky power”.

But... but... what about my ego? I'd rather have my friends say _150 PW ooooh he so STRONG if I was gay I'd hook up with HIM because he'd be a good provider,_ than shoot low scores! Of course they'll see me come up short with the PW but for that half second there they were IMPRESSED.
