The clock analogy of counter-clockwise vs a clockwise “banking” motion is one of the best descriptions I’ve ever heard regarding weight shifting too far into toes. I’ve struggled with early extension my whole life. This tip is excellent
just went to the range after this and hit two long draws/hooks right away. A few changes in my grip and alignment from over compensating and I added 5-10 yards per club with better control of both fades and draws. Great video
Eric you are a real master!. The third drill for me is magic. I tend to come from outside and it is because I focus myself in moving the right feet. The key is trying to get both feet on the ground through the impact an the third drill helps enormously. Thanks Master!
WOW! Great tip! I will be working on this today. I know I am guilty at times of moving the knee in with counter rotation. I love you detail tips. I have never heard it explained that way. I like it. If I lived closer to you, I would love to make one of your camps.
I’ve heard so many times that trying to hold the right heal down during the downswing was bad. I get up on my right heal really early and always have since I was a junior - similar time justin Thomas. I’ve hit the ball really well when playing and thinking of holding the right heal down longer in the downswing. Nice to hear that’s not a bad thing.
Hi Eric... another great video and love the advice on how to stop the heel lifting too early in the downswing. Something I suffer with and can't wait to try these drills at the range and for a before and after comparison 👍
Great stuff. The first drill of gripping with your trail foot (for right hander...the right foot) and turning it clockwise is an awesome drill. But man, is that tough to do!!
This is a great drill and takes care of a few problems a person might have in one drill. I mean the right foot screwing in the ground to the right (clockwise) makes a great start for keeping the rear against the wall making way for the correct ground up swing sequence! Excellent work my man and keep it coming!
I wouldnt worry too much about lead food moving around, many good players doing that. Trail foot should generally be more structured in using the ground.
Man, couldn’t help stopping the video and comment: your first drill of foot gripping clockwise is something I had never heard before, and yet makes much sense! (Don’t have access to lessons with Chris Como, lol). I’m amazed how you always come up with something both practical and original. I’ve had some eye openings and eyebrow raisings since I’ve been following your channel. Now I’ll tap the play icon and watch the rest...
Tested it on the range today: GAME CHANGER. The simple thought of clockwise gripping with the back foot helped me hit flush, with a far better hip rotation (my cardinal sin) and a balanced finish on the front heel. I could not believe such a simple swing thought could change so much the way I hit the ball. Thanks Eric!
Haha! My pleasure...usually just passing along info I have learned from someone else and trying to communicate what I learn in something easy and actionable. I'm glad it helped!
Eric, have been watching your online material for a couple months. You're a great communicator. I downloaded the V1 app, recorded my swing and could see I have the issue you're taking about in this video. OMG. I need to chill out my right side push. I'm a 6 handicap, but hit foul balls right or try to save it at impact with wrist. I will try your drills. When playing good, have a baby draw. When not, too much compensation at impact. Thank you so much. Ran track many years ago. Leg oriented. Somehow, need to chill lower body. Also too much hip slide. In VA. Maybe I'll make a trip to see you. If you have more suggestions or video references, I regarding early extension, I would appreciate it. Should i just nail my back foot to the ground :) Regards, Brian
Hi Eric great video as usual. I suffer massively with this, I even move towards the target at the top of the backswing. What confuses me is that my hip moves towards the ball at the start of my downswing but I don't gain height. I'm not necessarily losing flex if you know what I mean. Keep up the great work
For sure! But you need to invest some money ($69)! www.cogornogolf.com is where we hang out and do all of our coaching. Would love to have you as part of our team!
I’ve never thought of it like that. When I would pitch in baseball I would feel that clockwise move against the mound. If it wasn’t raining I’d be out there today trying this. Thank you!
Regarding tip one, gripping the ground and clockwise foot turn. Are you speaking almost exclusively on downswing? Or is it equal going back as well as coming down, the pressure that is.
Great Video - especially re: the clockwise rotation of the right leg in the downswing. But, one question, does this direction of rotation work with the law of opposites for the back swing versus downswing i.e. should the right leg be internally rotated from address through the back swing and then automatically reverse at some point for the downswing?
Hi Eric, love your content. What do you think of the down under board to get the feeling of the foot gripping the ground and rotating clockwise? Seems like they would go well together? Also, that feeling/sensation I imagine is just at initial downswing from transition.? Thanks
So I tried this and I’m a little confused, on the first tip, as you take the club back do you want to feel the counter clockwise feeling on your trail foot during the downswing? To me it feels right and easier to execute the feel of gripping the ground counter clockwise as I take the club back..if you can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it because this is exactly where I’m struggling, I turn my knee inward and early extend and it causes numerous issues for me. Thanks and I look forward to your response Eric
I saw a drill where Faldo would keep his knees on the noodle(he was doing it with a couch) back and most the way through. Is that just for a control feeling?
Being too steep in the downswing is one common factor that CAUSES early extension. Early extension on its own actually shallows the club shaft and pushes the club path more in to out...which is why your brain has you early extend when you're TOO STEEP/OUT TO IN on the way down Hope this is helpful!
I am a relatively low handicapper (4) with a high handicapper ‘s footwork - it drives me nuts because I am convinced that my crappy footwork leads to a host of problems (eg., My body stalls out at impact which leads to a slight chicken wing , and lost distance ). I want to fire the right leg down the target line but I have hit so many balls with my crappy leg work ( my right knee shoots out towards the ball and then wants to go around my left knee). When I try to correct with these amazing drills, I end up stalling out even more so because i planting the heel too long or I am twisting my heal so fast ( like a little kid playing tee ball).. I know this is probably obvious to most but I am dead from waist down / if I do this in slow motion, what should I be feeling & when - should it feel like I am dragging my inside of my right foot towards the left side at first? should it feel like I am resisting the urge to turn the left foot for as long as possible ? ( I have seen where golf shoes wear on golfers with excellent footwork and what I am doing would never cause that kind of west )

Hi, I struggle with this I either lock my right leg out due to prob poor rotation so I try and counter by having my right knee cap flex towards my left knee any thoughts pls
Eric, What are your thoughts on Kelvin's marching move? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TWdad1CN23E.html JB Holmes raises the right knee but keeps depth with the right butt cheak back. What you are demonstrating here is more in line with what Cameron Champ does. Can you do the left leg in your next video g, how you get pressure in it and how it works through impact. Thanks
