I liked when he broke character…it shows the real man behind the actor. When he cracked up in the bed scene you got to see Frank Sutton, not Sgt. Carter…I liked that, no?
Say what you will, but Frank Sutton was the real star of this show. Without him, it wouldn't have enjoyed the success that it did. He was a great actor who was taken too soon.
They were both FIERCELY loyal to each other! When jim wanted to leave his own show gomer pyle, the network wouldnt let him break the contract..so sutton told them, hed leave the show, cause he didnt wanna play carter anymore! So they allowed the jim out of the contract...jim then went on to do the, Jim neighbors variety hour and hired Sutton as a cast member! After a few seasons, the network wanted variety hour to be all musical and no comedy, which wouldve meant firing Sutton..so Neighbors decided to cancel the show instead!
@@reneeschiavon9250: His sexuality was never a topic of the show's plot, so although his private life was what it was, there was never an indication of it in the show's comedy.
Are you so ignorant that you don't understand the difference between an actor and a show's character? That you're not smart enough to comprehend the difference between made up tv life and real life? The character of Gomer Pyle was a straight man with a girlfriend. It's called acting, and your bigoted ignorant homophobia is showing.
Frank Sutton what an underrated actor. Perfect comedic timing and straight man. Gomer Pyle would not have worked without him and Jim Nabors. True chemistry in the Laurel & Hardy, Sheriff Taylor & Deputy Fife partnerships.
Wondered how Frank Sutton, and the star of the show Jim Nabores learned how to match in formation that's a supposedly extremely difficult thing to do. Jim Nabores seems to have mastered it somewhere, Frank Sutton seems to be leading an extremely well drilled team. Where was this opening seen filmed. I thought they used a real Merian base! Do to the marching Sean's.
I saw an interview with Jim Nabors where he talked about the Marines that he was marching with (shown during the opening credits of each Gomer Pyle episode) were actual Marines, many of whom went to Vietnam and did not come back......God bless our veterans!
@@TWayneD1020 This has absolutely NOTHING to do with what's going on today. Shame on you for trying to make this a political post. You should be ashamed.
Frank Sutton was as talented, if not more so, than any actor I've ever seen. His prior roles were all serious, tough guy roles. Then he transferred seamlessly to a comedic role, and and actually blended the tough guy/comedic roles brilliantly! And those facial expressions, that laugh, and that very unique voice. Can anyone name an actor who could have matched it? I can't!
Leslie Nielsen. All sorts of TV and Movie Heavies and Leading Men heroes for awhile until he played a General on "MASH" in 1972. The great sitcom was produced by Gene Reynolds among others. He and Jim Nabors of course were part of the immensely talented "Andy Griffith Show" ensemble. Bringing it almost full circle, many years after Nielsen's breakthrough in 1980 with "Airplane" he played in a satire of James Bond movies. The "Supervillain"? Yep Andy Griffith!😂B.W.
The episode about the sick cat. When Gomer puts the helmet on. No Pyle put it on me. I have all five seasons of Gomer. Watch them over and over and laugh. These two men had a special chemistry like Andy and Barney. Several of the episodes were mirror like to TAGS. The one about Carter saving Gomer. Andy saved Gomer also.
Sgt. Carter was my favorite character. The meaner he tried to be the more lovable he was. I remember his and Gomer´s double dates, so hilarious. Lou Ann Poovie sure was a sweetheart too.
Frank Sutton was the best!!! Perfect for a Sargent!!!! I love this show.. I watch it every day.. It's so funny and fun!!! It calm's me down, from a busy day.... 👍👍👍... 🤣🤣🤣🤣....
@@bingovegas4867 so what that Frank Sutton died in 1974? That doesn't change the statement that dude made. They were best friends for the rest of their lives. Even if it was only until 1974. You are a jerk.
I went thru Marine boot camp down in San Diego in early 1974. I clearly remember standing in formation outside of the chow hall one afternoon.....when a seagull or a pigeon ....took a crap on the dude standing just ahead of me. Watched it roll down the back of his shirt.
I joined the Marines in August 1968 and told my family that if Gomer Pyle could be a Marine, then I could be one to. I lived in those quansit buildings in Boot Camp in San Diego, Calif.
@@scotmandel6699 Yes sir, a total of 31.5 months. You didn't wimp out, you made the best decision for you and made a career out of it. Thank you for your service.
What made Gomer Pyle so funny was that some of the writers were from the "Andy Griffith Show". Some of the writers that stood out in my mind were: BILL IDELSON AND SAM BOBRICK HARVEY BULLOCK Tony 59-year-old Air Force VET 🇺🇸
Bill Idelson acted on occasion too, most prominently on THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW as Sally's boyfriend & eventual husband, Herman Glimscher. He also both wrote for & acted in THE TWILIGHT ZONE. Sam Bobrick, who died not long ago, had a webpage which failed to mention his perhaps most famous creation, SAVED BY THE BELL.
@@jehobden Thank you Jon, for that valuable information. 😃 I loved, "Save by the Bell" reruns early Sunday mornings, on MeTv. 😃 But unfortunately, MeTv took it off their schedule. 😥
The opening scene of this outtake with Carol Burnett and Frank Sutton, looks like it could be a sketch from, "The Carol Burnett Show". She usually breaks into laughter on her show. Tony 59-year-old Black US Air Force VET ✈️🇺🇸
this show came out when I was a very small child and when your are that young everything is real to you. To see them laughing at each other on these cracked up outtakes makes you realize and give evident confirmation that it was all make believe.
Notice in the opening the right weapon was the M14 which he is carrying in the opening but thru out the show M1 Grande is used which was discontinued in 1958 from service for the M14
Huge fan of the old days, before I was born by about 20 years, but ya its awsome and classics! Thank all of the OLD hollywood and not the new hollywoke and mcarthyisim
Just found out: Don Knotts and Leslie Nielsen were both in the movie "The Reluctant Astronaut" circa 1967. Including Knotts himself, ELEVEN different "AGS" Cast Members are part of the movie!😂B.W.
@@besttimes3248 Yep your right..had to go look it up...He was a Sergeant in the Army, during WWII, Pacific Theater. Decorated too, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Wow, so playing a Sergeant wasnt too much of a stretch for him! Lol
If you will look on his uniform where his ribbons are there is the Purple Heart. He passed way to soon..just think what great things he could have done. Great Actor.
I love to watch Sgt Carter run. My favorite episode is the one that has Gomer eating what I think is Welsh rabbit that causes him to sleepwalk into Sgt Carter's sleeping quarters, whereupon he Pyle tells Carter off.
Yes that’s Welsh rabbit (I had to google it and it’s called rab it? I know I read they changed the name bc the dish lacks “rabbit”. They could have come up with a nicer name after all it’s just toast, maple syrup and cheese.
Do you have any outtakes With Elizabeth MacRae Lou Ann Poovie Roy Stuart Cpl Boyle Tommy Leonetti Cpl Nick Cuccinelli Forrest Compton Colonel Gray Allan Melvin Sgt Hacker Barbara Stuart Bunny - Harper -Olsen Mark Slade Private Eddie Peters and Ted BESSELL Frankie Lombai all from GP Also any outtakes from: The Andy Griffith Show Happy Days The Adventures of OZZIE and Harriet and Green Acres and Petticoat Junction????.
If you fine anymore outtakes, please post them. I loved them. Put "Gomer Pyle. USMC" on Blu-ray or DVD and add a Disc with all outtakes from all seasons 1-5. That would be great
Frank Sutton was a true bad ass. He served in the Army as a Sergeant and won a Bronze and Purple Heart and took part in 14 assault landings in the South Pacific in WWII.
Well Richard McC... I believe the Standard fare of the seagul's meals was: small live animals,. Bugs, Clams, and Discarded French fries from the previous graduation ceremony- celebrations.
In the first set of bloopers with Carol Burnett, Frank Sutton looks annoyed with Carol's continual flubs. Also, the last segment where Gomer throws the football isn't an outtake. That's the way that scene appeared in the show.
From what I understand, There was about 650, or more, middle-aged- women LOVED To watch the show in the mid 1960's, Because the companies of men ,who were Marching for "Pass And Review" ( As shown in the opening credits) were shipped off Immediately to Vietnam, due to LBJ's (the president's, emergency order at that time (1964 +/-). For many wives girlfriends, and mothers, it was the last time they saw their loved one, Alive! ... That is why the re-runs lasted for so many years, After the series was no longer-' prime time- TV .!
Carter made the show! Without him it would not of lasted one season. Loved Gomer too but hey, you have to agree that Carter was fun to watch and was just a crack up!! How he did not win an Emmy is a crime!
In the scene where a black bird was on top of Pyle's head pooping, was that the director removing the bird? And if so, who was that director in that scene at 3:13? Tony 59-year-old Air Force VET 🇺🇸
That was most likely the animal trainer dealing with the bird. As for the director of that episode, if you have the series on DVD, it would be easy to check out the credits.
Sutton was an old pro who had little tolerance for the forced "break-ups" that Burnett would ruin otherwise useable scenes with, requiring additional takes to fix. You could see how annoyed he was at her unprofessional B.S.
Just keep looking you will eventually find some more. I also have a few more suggestions.. Gilligans island the Munsters and The Andy Griffith show plus I love Lucy bloopers and out takes
