Gomira dance is a rural dance form mainly practiced in the Dinajpur district of West Bengal. The dance is usually performed by the villagers to please the Almighty to welcome the ‘good forces’ and ward off the ‘evil forces’. These masks are made of Gamar Wood and then hand painted. Gomira dance is also called "Mukha khel" meaning the game of mask.
The word Gomira is originated from "Gram-Chandi", a female deity. The extract origin of this craft is very very old and some of the craftsmen claim, it is as old as the beginning of Kali Yuga.
This tradition goes on from generation to generation. The children are also joyfully involved in this practice. They learn it from their forefathers and the tradition goes on.
