The relationship between Genny and Ciro was so deep and complicated. Genny idolized him and loved him and hated him all at once lol He told Patri that Ciro means more to him then family then 2 episodes later he tells Ciro to his face he’s never hated someone so much like he hates him haha.

Gomorrah is in a league of its own. Forget Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad etc, they're tame. When this hits its like a baseball bat in the face.

Roberto Saviano, who penned the book 'Gomorrah', on which the television series and feature film were based, has been under 24 hour armed police protection for the last decade. Saviano claimed that when the book was first released that gang members passed it around as gifts, but as it grew in popularity his life became under imminent threat.

Series is light years ahead of the Sopranos. Outstanding photography, brilliant acting. A new prospective of Naples and suburbs. English dubbing was right one. Series was a brilliant achievement.

If Breaking Bad and the Sopranos had a child in some dark alleyway in Napoli, this show would be it …. Amazing work of art

I do live very close to this place - my city is called Salerno, like 50 klm from Naples : in this area we do have this kind of slang you can ear - i can assure the first scene, with this slang on, it's very powerfull and also scary, like hit you in the stomach - Neapoletan is like a language apart, indeed is considered to be the second spoken language in Italy. Do no think Naples or Salerno are all criminal like this : this is the story of a district basically, not all the city is like this, not at all - yes , it's not the most safe place in the world, but you can visit as tourist, no problem, you will love it : this is the real Italy, trust me - The problem is : since early 1900 the south part of Italy was left economically behind, and that's a price we still pay today . unemployment rate is high, and i mean, high - we're talking about the European Detroit here if make sense, but not that criminal i think ( i hope so ) - here is a war between a particular kind of mafia gangs called ' camorra ' - they basically fight to control the drugs market - sometimes there is a truce and nothing happen - sometimes is war - last very big fight was in 2004, i was working abroad in Dublin and on the newspapers i could read all the terrible news - it was like many many dead and injured people - this series basically tell the story of that fight in those years - ok, hope you like this small story - ciao - i do have my small crime channel but is all in Italian, perhaps one day i will make a video in english explaining the story behind this series that i can see is becoming very popular abroad -

Genny was the brother on Fargo.

First two series were excellent. Mainly because they were so gritty and believable. After that it got silly. They turned Ciro into a virtually invincible super hero. Spent half my time rolling my eyes.

This series is highly criticized in the south italy.. mainly by those who take this production as an offence. They say it just motivate kids to repeat the same actions.. they even got angry at roberto saviano for this... a lot of families get their "advantage" or "easy life" by helping the clans.. others just bury their heads in the sand and try to ignore all this. But there's has been a war going on for the last 60 years, with thousands of casualties, both criminals and innocents. I think it's a good thing to show the world the dirty side of the medal: the clean side this way will shine even more in the light. Plus, the actors are really amazing... thanks for your time. If you come to naples you'll eat the best food of your life :)

Fyi i'm an italian citizen fron Rome, just 250 km away from Naples, but i had to watch the show with italian subtitles to fully understand every word. Accents across Italy vary so much region by region and Neapolitan does not except. We really can't understand each other in Italy if someone speaks only his accent and not formal italian.

As an Italian, I love this series and I must say that it is one of the best, as well as one of the few, that talks about the mafia (in this case, Neapolitan mafia) But let me tell you this is the small fishes mafia. First of all, there are 3 very different types of mafia: Cosa Nostra (Sicilian mafia), Camorra (Neapolitan mafia) 'Ndrangheta (Calabrian Mafia, currently the most powerful in the world, present in many states outside Italy). The Neapolitan mafia is that of Gomorrah, but in my opinion they are small fish who are fighting each other for some district of Naples. Cosa Nostra was the bloodiest and most powerful mafia from the 1960s to 2000, killing heads of state, ministers, magistrates, policemen, innocent civilians. They were on the verge of terrorism, with attacks and bombs for a war of power against the Italian State. He had woven relations with politics to the point of having a mafia President of the Republic (Andreotti) and President of the Council (Berlusconi). Relationships so dangerous and high-level that they never ended and continue today, that they have profoundly marked Italy. Cosa Nostra has always won against the Italian state. They had on their side ministers in charge, the P2 (Masonic lodge), presidents, deviant secret services and even today many old mafia men are still fugitives and command Italy through the corrupt politicians we have (almost all of them). In my opinion, the Cosa Nostra is the most interesting mafia of all and the one that has reached the top. There is a TV series called "Corleone" which talks about Totò Riina, the boss of the bosses, the boss of the Cosa Nostra. I recommend it. The 'Ndrangheta, on the other hand, is today the most powerful because it controls world drug trafficking, has contacts with Mexican cartels and with unsuspected men of power. Little is known about them, and this is their strength. They do not have a single leader, but their organization is more similar to that of the terrorist cells. That is why it is difficult to stop it. Now it is present all over the world, it is no longer just Italian. There is a TV series from the same creators of Gomorrah that talks about it, it's called ZeroZeroZero. As you can understand, as beautiful as Gomorrah The series is, this is the mafia of small fishes, bordering on crime. So you non-Italians, don't believe this is the real mafia. This is the Mafia of Naples, and of all, it is the weakest and most disorganized.

It is a great drama. Italians are really nice with that kind of drama I have seen Roma criminale and they are pretty good. They should keep on filming that kind of series. Are there any like those I have mentioned?
