I used to be a member of the Gong household in 1975/6. This stuff used to go on all the time in rehearsals at La Maison du Gong in Witney. Very very psychedelic.
@@royferguson3909 Yep! Still happy and healthy. Had so many great times with Gong in the 1970's back in the UK. Seems like another age now. Bumped into Daevid again unexpectedly back in the 1990's when he was busking at Paddington Markets in Sydney, during hard times career - wise!! Then he reconnected with the Gong family and had some renewed success before retiring back here.Spoke to Daevid a few times here in Oz before he passed.
I take my hat off to you ,I' m 54 and Gong have been my favourite band since I was 15/16 discovered psychedelic s .Last time I was Gong was in 2013 in Brighton and Gilly was really getting frail & had to sit down ...Steve Hillage & Daevid were just buzzing off each other..beautiful human beings us Gong/ Canterbury set folks..I just found this guy doing this solo and thought you might enjoym.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHKGY0V4CIo.html
@@sophiew1967 GREAT COVER - HAS THE HILLAGE PEDAL DOWN NICE. (caps off now). At leadt you saw them - magic combination that stays with you for ever! Peacex
Ace wasn't it ! You should share some of your memoirs of that time online ,I.know there's a site just dedicated to.old stories about the whole Canterbury Set..This video probably has been one one my most watched one's ever ,there's an extended documentary with English subtitles made for 1973 French tv..you might see yourself on it !.peace & love to you xx
Just a fun band, have so many of their old vinyl. Talented, not a care in the world, fun, jamming, out of control and totally cohesive at the same time. What a great band. All is one and one is Gong.
I can't believe I'm today's years old (52)& just finding this wonderful shit.. I'm an old hawkwind fan too.. I never heard any of my buds mention gong!!
"I left my body on my bed, and flew away inside my head, to dive right through the moon and find, a perfect world inside my mind". Gong helped me get through some difficult times in my youth. Supreme respect to you Mr Allen and co. RIP.
Ditto! My roommate and I shared an extended quote from You Never Blow Yr Trip Forever in our college yearbook. Daevid Allen and the band members are gods in my eyes.
Congratulations on the fair and tempting description o' thy wonderful journey. But wot hath happened tae the sweet a-savin' madness that used tae help us endure this materialistic world ? I attended two Gong concerts in South o' France in 1972 and 73.
Oui, tu as raison. Sache qu'à mon âge, cette folie ne m'a jamais quittée. Donc, je n'ai pas à la retrouver. * * * Yes, you're right. Know that at my age, 74 years yongë, this madness hath ne'er left me. Sae, I dinnae hath tae find it.@themaidofmiddleearth
I helped put on a few of their shows and spent many days with them as they all came back to the states in the 90s . They were FRIENDS not rock stars. LONG HOURS in a van listening to Daevids stories ...GREATEST MEMORIES EVER ! Lovely And Talented is a great way to describe them !
gil wood Saw the show at Tramps in NYC in 1996. They were beyond phenomenal. With Pip Pyle on drums, subbing for Pierre, and Steffi on lead guitar, I believe. Daevid, Gilli, Didier, Mike Howlett, & Tim Blake all returned from the Angel's Egg/You band lineup of 1973-74. It really was something special, you could feel it in the room as Daevid & Gilli worked their magic.
Me too. Just played Guru Guru's Hinten for the first time in awhile and experienced several flashback type goose bumps/shivers. As I quit taking acid and other psychedelics years ago, it was the next best thing. Great feeling! Great music!
I got into Gong when Tommy Vance played Oily way on the friday night rock show about 40 years ago. They’ll always hold a special place in my heart. RIP Daevid and Gilli.
used to listen to this over and over again in the '70's - one of my favourite Gong albums... RIP Daevid, blessings and ultimate peace in the profundity of bliss...
I discovered Gong when I met Gilli 4 years ago. She told me to look up Gong on RU-vid and smiled. WOW, how did I not know of Gong, I lived in Europe for 4 years in 70s, love Pink Floyd...I guess that I wasn't ready for Gong. Watched How to Stay Alive video.... WOW..DMT stuff, colours, s.p.a.c.e., the big pyrimid in s.p.a.c.e, all the graphics going into the space part with busy patterns moving in harmony, the colours.. the mathematical stuff..Gilli said we would meet in next life. That blew me away, I must be a honerable pixie
@@margaretmcrae5642 I actually first heard them in 94 when I was 20 and heard the song Oily way and thought it was some Frank Zappa shit. See that was in them cassette days when I listened to College radio on Thursday and Friday nights. 07 my boss put me down with Gong. And the record store I hung out in used to have all their albums. They played Angels egg and that was when I found out that was them on that black tape the whole time.
Have seen the band name Gong for years but had no idea of the music. Then this video came up in the right hand column, I was "WTF is THAT on the thumbnail?" I decided to watch, and I have become a convert based upon this one video and the groove & performance contained therein. Immediately sought out Angel's Egg, and then started backward towards Magick Brother. Thus far I've heard em up to & including "You". Camembert Electrique is I think my favorite, blown away by the alternate reality, the musicianship, the humor, the otherworldliness. Daevid, Gilli & crew really created something special and I look forward to discovering more as I go - call this video the 'gateway drug to Gong'! Bravissimo & RIP Daevid & Gilli...
@@MrPloopi Listened to Camembert Electrique again last night, it is fast becoming an alltime favorite album (over 50+ yrs of listening to music)...Strong and streamin' mate....
Welcome..the Gong family is universal and we welcome all friendly faces :) I.kind of envy you discovering all this stuff ,wish I.could get in my teapot & fly off to being 16 again in 1983 & being blown by them on acid for the first time..lol.Have you listened to his early stuff with Soft Machine/ Robert Wyatt & Kevin Ayers??you're in for a treatm.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0ebVTQ5nIHI.html&start_radio=1
Daevid Allen, I just want to say thank you so much for making a huge change in many of our lives. Not only did you add coloring to this world with music, but also with your amazing humour. We are heartbroken by the news that the time has come, It sucks that most of us (including myself) never got the chance to meet you in person, but regardless, you will always be in our hearts, and we wish you the safest most peaceful remaining six months that life have given you to enjoy. Indeed, enjoy those six months and live it to it's fullest, like there's no tomorrow. You have given us so much that you deserve more than that amount of time for yourself and your family. Eventually we will see you again in Planet Gong, and you will forever have our love and support. Farewell. Best Wishes, Kevin
una pequeña demostracion de la alucinacion de semejante he increible banda que bien hizo David Allen(voz)de separarse d soft machine y regalarnos con su "desbordante" música
i found the crystal machine appealing, but i was introduced to this album coming on to a tab (weak, last one i've had in teh dacades) and realising the two dudes hanging out were using this to invite me for a threesome :p just had to watch to try and lose that. the bathtub didn't help.
I've always thought that as well!, pity he doesn't reproduce it so faithfully here, another underappreciated solo is by Charlie Whitney of Family, from the allbum Bandstand, listen to the song 'Glove'...
I'm so happy that I got to meet him at a festival in my own village in Kent with my three week old daughter. He was super nice and went out of his way to find a pen so he could sign my ticket and draw a pot head pixie on it. Magickal Daze!
Goodbye Daevid, and thanks for all the cups of tea. O, and the mushrooms. This is a great reminder of all that was good in the psychedelic days. And before I forget, thank you to Señor Sharpstrings for keeping so many people happy at Stonehenge in '76 🍄
every time i think ive done too much acid, i find a video like such and it reminds me that i have merely pegged the rabbit hole that our forefathers have dug for us
Rest in Peace, my Magick Brother. The world is a better place for you having been here, and I am a better human being for having gotten to speak, be with, and sing with you. Your music will live in my heart, mind, and immortal soul for all time.
Those hats! I'll never forget tripping on mushrooms 3 feet in front of this freak on Halloween night at Berbati's Pan (Portland OR) 1996.! The stage was only up to my shin. Best concert EVER! The show was billed (literally printed on the tickets) A Psychedelic St Paddy's Day with The Legendary Gong.
first time I heard gong was when I was 14 dropping my first acid, this music made for the most memorable experience, I will never forget , flying teapot took me to a place that is imprinted on my mind forever!!!
It was Crimson for my first acid voyage, but I caught up quickly to Gong, I don't like to say it, but man oh man music was truly better back in those days
I had the privilege to see that band at Québec City, in 1997. It was simply magic!!! The crowd was hysterical! From memory, I have rarely seen so many recall requests.
@@3lullabies That would be certainly well out there and a lot to get one's head around. Les is about as quirky as they come and a very imaginative, innovative artist. Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, The Residents and Zappa too.
Fanastic video! Whatever other music I've been into over the years, the magic of Gong has always been with me. Great musicianship, fun, spirituality, positive vibes and originality all in one unique package :-) Eccentric he may be by traditional standards, but Daevid is one of the most wise and together people I have ever had the fortune to come across in this mad world!
Divided Alien got out of this world through a hole in space. We'll meet sometime again, hopefully on the flying teapot in the future or past. Can't tell.
An English friend introduced me to Gong around '96 or '97, with the Gong "You" remixed CD. I liked it a lot, so he then introduced me to the original work. Oh, the fun times we had in Hong Kong in those days! Still love Gong.
Used to go on camping trips in the late 80s we used to go meet our man for a fresh strip of strawberries 🍓 then onto the camp fire with our ghetto blaster with all our gong cds at the ready ☮️✊🏽
I heard YOU in 93 and listened to that record alone for at least a year solid and I still find it a extremely rewarding listen everytime,so much i haven't listened to any other complete album by GONG yet
Think I MAY have mentioned this before? But I was SO lucky as a 15 year old to see Gong with Camel at the Stadium Liverpool . . . . .AND with the blessed Clare Murphy . . . .WOW, eh? .... HAAAAAAAAA
The ultimative best Band that ever existet. Long live the Planet Gong! I loved Punk, I adored Metal, I digged deep in Industrial Sounds, but nothing could hold the Candle to GONG!
You gave so much & took so little, your presance upon the earth was a joy for all who were open to receiving your wisdom. Glide forever Vale Daevid Allen RIP
The classic lineup. Wish they were around during the video age to capture the color and weirdness of their shows. But we still have brilliant music. RIP Daevid Allen, brilliant genius.
