The iPad 8th gen was my first ever Apple product, and I can say it is a great entry level device for someone trying to get into the Apple Ecosystem. Im using it as a supplement to my PC for note taking for school and online classes and it works great for those kinds of purposes. You cant go wrong with this iPad!
The standard iPad is my default recommendation for family members who want a tablet to reply to emails, browse the web and watch Netflix. It's a great value if you don't need a full laptop but want something that is easy to carry around and is better for browsing the internet than an iPhone.
the only thing i would warn people who think an ipad can complete replace their computers is if something happens to the ipad that needs to be factory restored, you NEED a computer to do it. there's currently no way to factory restore without a computer.

I got the 8th gen a month ago after sticking with the same since 2014. I was really debating getting the air 4 but knowing I wouldn’t get any expensive accessories it didn’t really feel necessary. The speakers are the only thing I am unhappy about so far but they are fine for the price, I am mostly using it for typing and doing other stuff for school. The headphone jack is really useful for me while creating music as well, getting a more expensive iPad and needing to buy an adapter for that seemed kinda wasteful. I also got a cheaper stylus from zagg that works great. Coming from a 5+ year old device, anything would probably be better but I am happy with my decision

I see the appeal for the iPad air but there's something that I just couldn't justify buying it especially as a laptop replacement. So the thing with the air is that if you get the base model, you're getting only 64GB and that doesn't necessarily help with the longevity of the device. And if you go for the 256GB model and add the price of an external keyboard and a pen, you're stepping into the MacBook air or even mac mini's territory. (Not to mention that you can get a good pc at that price point). If you need the air for drawing, yes it's still the best choice in my opinion( even though the 8th gen will most probably do good enough too), but if it's a replacement for your primary computer or even your school computer, you may wanna reconsider your decision. On the other hand if you get the iPad 8 (128GB) and again add the price of a keyboard and pen, you're still looking at a price point which makes enough sense to pull the trigger knowing that the kinda computer you can get for that price are mostly chromebooks and low end windows computers (aka E-waste). I went for the 8th gen myself but haven't received it yet. I was really baffled if I should've gone with the air but realistically the difference isn't huge other than the design.
@@tinabenny2432 unless you have no need/ desire to add any apps &/ or store anything on the device - photos, files, etc - if you’re at all able it’s definitely a better idea to get the 128GB. The 32gb ipad will come with nearly half of the storage used from the get go - operating system, pre-loaded apps, etc - and while there may be a few apps you want to delete, all in all the 32gb will very likely limit you unless you truly only plan to use it for web browsing & streaming. I have been using my ipad 8 32 gb for 4-5 months now and I can't agree with you more! My daily purpose is to watch Netflix ,make notes and play a few games and the 32 gb is sufficient enough for me , also the experience is great!
@@TechGearTalk I think it’s just perfect for school going children like under class 10 or so (high school). It’s the perfect bare minimum package. Others might prefer to go for higher end iPads.
@@raghadhammami5364 as a student who wants to take down notes and tons of pdf, will you go for processor or with storage... Samsung s6 lite is perfect for note taking and moderate work and occasional gaming.... spending 30K INR with 10K for pencil and getting 32 GB dtorage without expansion is not worth at all for a student...
Really good review here. I agree with all your points. iPad 8 is a solid value as long you dont need a decent camera. I have also found the internal mic preamps to be better on the iPad 8 over the 2018 iPad Pro. I hope the new iPad in 2021 will retain the headphone jack. For me the iPad 8 fits with what I do and coming from the iPad 6 I like the screen size better and what is good is that I don’t have to spend lots of money buying cables or buying a new Apple pencil and I like Touch ID a lot so it is the perfect iPad for me👍🏻
About the white vs. black bezel... This is not just an opinion, but a fact. A white bezel will trick your eyes into thinking the screen is not as bright. The black bezel will have the opposite effect. I chose an Apple iPad (my first Apple product) for the bright, vibrant screen in the first place. It would seem counterproductive to then choose a white bezel which makes the screen look not as bright.
Had this for almost 2 months now, It serves what I’m looking for. I just listened to you tube. Yes. A head phone jack. The speakers is good enough for me, I wish it was a tad bigger, Othrr than that great. I use my finger no pens
The iPad 8 has been my recommendation for relatives and friends who aren't so Tech savy. I owned the base model 32gb storage model for several months and it really handled everything smoothly. I've been borrowing my brother's Air 4 and comparing it to my iPad 8's usage. The iPad AIr 4 does everything slightly better, but the ipad 8 is no slouch right now on IOS 14. My batterylife on the iPad 8 is around 10-12 hours versus 8-10 hours on the Air 4, not sure if I just happen to be using too much processing power or on a brighter screen settings, Im not sure but regardless the iPad 8 seems to have better battery, while the Air 4 does everything else better. I think you can't go wrong with either device right now.
I’ve been using the iPad 8 with 1st gen apple pencil for 4 months now, and i’m really satisfied with my purchase. I totally prefer the black face plate since smudges can be avoided by a matte screen protector anyway. I’m a student so the budget is tight but so far I have been going totally paperless in school since I got the device. Although the Air 4 would have been nice, adding an Apple Pencil 2nd gen is waaay expensive for my savings. Anyway, great video!
I’m a literature student and I’ve ordered an iPad 8th gen because I know I’ll use it for just typing documents (Research papers etc), attending classes and using Netflix. iPad 8th gen is more affordable for me because I don’t have the use for a high end laptop. I currently have a cheaper laptop and it is really slow. And, watching your videos has really helped me with my decision. Thank you.
Fabulous review! After my 9.7 inch IPad Pro randomly stopped working and had quite a noticeable damaged screen, I decided to get this particular iPad. It’s still yet to come as I should be getting as late May, but I decided to get it because predominantly are use my laptop for any serious work, so I only wanted to get it for basic media consumption plus book reading. Also, I’m very happy just to stick with the lightning cables as pretty much everything that I have works with that system. When everything changes to USB-C, then obviously, I’ll change my iPad, but I’m sure this will do me absolutely fine.
I got the iPad 8 because I needed a “computer” but I don’t really needed much and paying for a MacBook seemed wasteful. I don’t regret it at all. I managed to fix my 2012 MacBook Pro, but I still use my iPad a lot. Mostly for how easy it is to carry around, even with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (I prefer mechanical keyboards but the Logitech K380 and the pebble, were a perfect portable choice). I do pay for iCloud, but is really not expensive. So everything that needs to be moved to an external HD can be taken from my MacBook anytime. I only need one charger at any given time, no more dongles needed.

I am a student, so my decision was mainly between the iPad 8 and Air 4, I went for the Air4 because it had an amazing discount for uni students as well as a free pair of Airpods with the air, so it became sort of a no brainer to go for it.
does the air gap bother you? I plan on buying the ipad Air 4 but I don’t want to pressure my parents so much even tho I add sum of my money I save up. Plan on getting the ipad 9th gen if it allows, is it good for drawing and editing?
I got the Ipad 8 in September 2020, and this has been the perfect upgrade to the windows laptop I had before (Ryzen 5, 8GB ram, Windows 10). It works really well in terms of MS office (cursor control now available), gaming, video editing (premiere rush), Media consumption, writing and taking notes, composing, and organizing emails etc. I got an otg connector (lightning to USB A female) so it seamlessly works with my optimal mouse and keyboard, external usb drives and external controllers as well. I'm in awe of the capability of this product when compared to the pricing point it comes at, will hopefully be using this for years to come!
I own the ipad 8 and I have worked as a recording engineer and Im surprised how well the speakers sound. I am listening to your video landscape mode and somehow the sound sounds great, it doesnt sound to one side only. The bass on the sound of your voice sounds nice and deep, and sounds even. better with a movie. I definitely love my ipad 8 and got it on sale for $7000 pesos in Mexico which is around $350 dollars in 6 monthly credit payments no interest. This is about 58 dollars per month.
Thanks mate ! You must be the only guy on RU-vid who's willing to to suggest that some of us can actually live with a 32gig model. I know that I won't be doing much more than web surfing, content consumption and emails, so I fully intend to get the base model.

@@lihkinaitahb I will get the 128 gb because 32 is too low since there's about 14 gb for the system only 18 gb will be left, If you are planning to use the ipad for several years I advice you to pay the extra cash and get the 128 gb.
As an ipad 128 gb user ( not drawer) Thing i like: long battery life, headphone jack, overall use and smoothness, accessories, Thinks i dont like: lighting port (wish for usb c), ipados restrictions (ipados is weak), screen could be reflective time to time Verdict: It’s a great device for that price. Other options are too expensive, you may prefer to choose m1 macs or high quality 2 in 1 pc.
@@TechGearTalk thx a lot. Some people may not like my perspective however in my country usd is expensive. 7-8 times expensive incomparion with our currency. I’m counting every penny. So which ipad is best for value. Answer is ipad 8, 128gb. No other cheap laptop or chrome book can provide that kind of overall consisteny and app variety. Not even chromebooks. But i really dont like ipad os and empty bars in youtube videos. Only videos about 80’s tv shows offer full screen experience on my ipad 8.

Been an iPhone user for ages and this is my first time venturing into their tablet, your video helped me a lot. Decided to buy ipad8 since it’s gonna be my first apple tablet. Atm there’s no urgency for me to grab either the air 4 or pro.
I picked up a 32GB 8th gen but promptly took it back and ordered the 128GB (which arrives today - YAY!). I should have followed my own rule which is to purchase a device based on the storage of my other devices. In this case, I have a 128GB iPhone 11 so I automatically should have gotten the same or larger storage on the iPad. Didn't consider this until I was part ways through setup and realized using my iPhone's backup to set up the iPad was a fool's errand. In any case, I would have liked the get the iPad Pro 11" but my budget changed to I got the 8th gen. Other than the storage faux pas, I enjoyed before I swapped for the larger storage option; I will no doubt enjoy the 128GB as well. Thanks for the review; keep 'em coming!
You know what happens with technology (not teck, lol) and how fast it's going. I got my ipad pro which I think it's great and I actually use it for different things than my iPhone, my MacBookPro and now my iMac..., but as I was saying, the model what came right after had USB-C, which was a killer for me, cause at that time I was doing some filming for a couple of companies and I had to bring my laptop in order to storage the footage. With the usb-c I could've just put it straight to the iPad...., I actually love the new design because it's square on the edges, like the new iPhone. I just got the iPad 8 recently (late-jan), using it as my laptop replacement for senior year in high school at just 32gb because I only need it for basic apps I guess (docs, slides, sheets, classroom etc) and I think it works fine. The only thing that really bugs me is the small screen, especially when it’s on split.
From ipad Pro 12.9 2020 to ipad 8th Gen..The battery life is superb.Im amazed!!And the performance wise is not a big issue for me bcoz im not really into pro users..The most important is a battery life is really good👍
I'm getting the iPad 8th for two things, Procreate & cheap. I have a drawing tablet for my PC but they use plastic as a drawing surface and I really notice the scratches that it creates. The iPad 8th uses glass and will not scratch. Furthermore if you crack the 8th gen, it is cheap to replace the glass. If you crack the iPad Air, your going to spend a lot of money to replace it because it is laminated. I have no intention of doing video or photo editing on the iPad 8 because I have a powerful PC computer that I built. The only thing I will use the iPad 8 is for Procreate since they don't have a PC version.
I’m trying to like the iPad 8 and I prefer the 128 gb...but the design and the display of the air 4 are so good that 3 months have past and I still haven’t chosen one...
The iPad Air 3 might be a good comprise between the 8 and the air 4 especially if you go for the 256gb one! Still has the head phone jack too if you care about that like me. I just use it for music apps and surfing the web.
@@floki2964 i have the 128 gb model, if you plan to only use some apps and browse the internet, stream content, and have some books on it 32 gb is ok, but remember that its actually like 26 gb or less available. With 128 gb i dont have to worry about that
Yayyyyyyy sagi 💯💯 best video I actually have the air 4 and 8 gen ipads with me, air with 64 gigs and 8 gen with 128 gigs. Actually I am quite happy with both. The 8 gen is great for everything one wants to do but as you said if there is a specific task related to drawing and a lot of precision work then only one should spend the extra 140 $ as none are cheap and I also prefer the ipad pro 2018 over the 2020 pro. The pro users should wait for the new pro 2021 that would be a beast.
@@TechGearTalk they share the same chipset sagi that is the A12x and we all know that only a few users require the lidar and the ultrawide camera that the pro 2020 gives rest you get everything same on the 2018 model . So if one can get a refurbished 2018 or a new 2018 pro it will be a great deal

In India apple products are generally really expensive and considered a luxury I got one for 320 dollars and it is so smooth I have a phone with 120 HZ but still ipad feels smoother and powerful I have edited a 4K video with a lot of effects and use GarageBand for my music creation I mean I can not think of any thing this versitile
I also want it to take notes in med school, but my primary use for the iPad is drawing, and I still think iPad 8 (128gb or more) is a way better option because of the price. I don't really care about "which one looks better", and the iPad 8 is more than enough for what I need, even the air would work better for drawing, it's too much of a price difference for me 😅
