What blows my mind is that Forward Unto Dawn came out 15 years ago on a fraction of this budget and is exponentially better is almost every aspect of this show
If they wanted to add a Kwan character they could’ve just used Roselle from Oblivion. And made two episodes for that book and at the end of the episode we can see a young Chief without his armor being debriefed by the legendary Admiral Cole and why he respects him so much to set up a future ep. Then have the 2-3 next episodes from Silent Storm which tells you how John became the Master Chief as well as introduce Johnson and ODSTs as they embark on a mission together. Then one episode for Admiral Cole’s last stand showing the most bad ass UNSC space win in the series. Then go into the Fall of Reach etc.
If we do see Operation Torpedo in the show I imagine it'll be in the episode titled "Thermopylae", just seems fitting with the whole "300 Spartans on the suicide mission" vibe lol
Agreed. I've never seen this Joseph Morgan guy in anything but he steals every scene he's in. Apparently he is a fan of the games and claims to have played 1 - 4 in co op with his brother and told his agent to put it out there that he's interested in any roles in live action Halo movies/TV shows. He was also massively nervous during filming, which is pretty incredible considering his character oozes confidence from every pour.
Also, has anyone noticed how similar his voice is to the Prophet of Truth in Halo 2? I think they should get him to voice that character in any and all future adaptations of Halo. 🙂
The fact the show has the covenant on reach and no one is constantly talking about the covenant. Reach was the last stronghold before earth . Wasnt over half of humanity dead at this point? The idea we'd focus on petty side stuff rather than the extinction event at their doorstep blows my mind. This could work if we were in the early stages of the war. The covenant on reach was pretty close to the end.
War has been going on for a while and the season starts with outer colonies being destroyed with reach being the strong point of humanity it’s not showing that fact but it’s there
Close to the end? It practically was the end . What was it three weeks or so until the piller of autumn found halo then few weeks on halo , then operation first strike after that was beginning of halo two . We pretty much at the end of human covenant war . That's what I don't get though everyone knew about the covenant before reach . So there's a lot of missing Intel between seasons I sure hope they don't do a time stamp type thing were they go to events between episodes
The timeline is fucked in the show. The war’s be going on for decades, but large swaths of the UNSC empire is still oblivious to what’s going on. Even outer colonies like Madrigal didn’t fully appreciate that the covenant was real, until it was too late.
@@a_waff1es_0pinion76yeah but its stupid because the UNSC knew about the Covenant since Harvest in like 2525. Crazy how the character that had an entire novel written about his backstory and the introduction of the bad guys is the same guy nonexistent in the show. Idk why tf they made Keyes black instead of just having Keyes be the expositional character he is, and then having Black Johnson. The show blatantly ignores everything except for what it picks and chooses and thats the downfall of it
I said this Season so far is noticeably better than Season 1, but it's better in the sense that getting kicked in the baIIs is better than getting stabbed in the baIIs...
@@Groggyracer The Halo 3 grunt also said "Hey, Demon! The jerkstore called and they're all out of you! Poor you! Stolen at the age of 6 and conscripted into the military, wahh! Okay look! You let me live, I've got the Fist of Rukt! Look... I'll be at the bottom. I'll polish your boots. I'll polish your helmet! It's the gas! *nervous laugh* When I'm on the gas, I don't know what I'm doing half the time."
The Rubble arc looks and sounds like something that'd fit perfectly in the Expanse, but it looks like Kwan has gone to the MGS universe, been trained by Big Boss, and come back to this Halo universe. It sounds a bit better, but Chief needs to be Chief, and please showrunners, learn how militaries operate.
oh yeah it's 100% some expanse shit, I kind of get why they wanted to include such a timeline in halo for the casual viewer but no actual fan of the games wants that angle. the casuals probably enjoy it though.
@ArgentWolf95 true, but Clarissa Mao has those augments in her body that can allow her to kill a room full of men in a second. Afaik Kwan doesn't have that
@@atomicspartan131 yeah, so I don't mind her. I even found her likeable and her redemption is a good story. It helps that Amos's own character development went from amoral killer to a guy who learned to be good. Bobbie Draper does do some stuff I think is nonsense though I like her. She's practically an ODST.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who audibly sighs at the Kwan/Rubble scenes. God forbid this show gets renewed for season 3, can you imagine how it will be tie in? We'll be landing on the beach to search for the Silent Cartographer, then the scenes change to Kwan's reclaimer storyline, then it will cut back to the beach with all covvies dead instead of actually showing us the battle
Kwan: an untrained teenage delinquent whose trying to play hero commando kills a bunch of experienced armed pirates (who were slower to react than jul m’damas bodyguards)with a kitchen knife My mind: The force is strong with this one
If there is 1 single moment i hope we see at somepoint It is as the Pillar of Autumn is leaving Reach we pan down to a Single Spartan watching the ship leave That spartan being Noble Six That in my eyes would be the best ending for the Season
As much as I wanna see Six in live action, I don’t think Noble will fit into the story, unless during the invasion Halsey breaks out and somehow orders noble team to extract Cortana out of fleetcom or wherever Ackerson has her to deliver to the autumn, somewhat similar to the games.
Too bad the Halo Universe refuses to acknowledge any existence of N6 whatsoever in any way outside of Halo Reach and toys. They completely ignore Noble 6 and killed the Rookie off in a book
To me, it seems like the show runners sort of want to turn Kwan into like an Aria from GOT type to character with her becoming ruthless but I’m still not convinced it has a place in this show.
It has no place in Halo. In the grand scheme of things, if the Covenant went specifically into fighting, they would have wiped out humanity. The humans were so on the ropes that nobody gave a freak about all this GOT stolen subplot. If you were a human in this war, you’d be willing to hug your mother’s murderer, is how bad the humans were losing.
@reddishcarp1237 if I hadn't played the games and read the books, and haven't been doing so from the age of four to twenty, I'd agree, if it was just science fiction 101 I'd agree, but it's not, it's halo, and only by title and character names is it halo, everything else is just loosely based. Calling this show halo is like calling cocaine bear a documentary, very loosely based on the source material.😂
@reddishcarp1237 this isn't Halo, its *extremely generic* sci-fi with a Halo skin slaped on, and the show writers are directly hostile towsrds any who point it out.
Hidden Xperia, you are Halo now. You’re all we have left. Honestly, I turned on the first Episode and I was shocked at how much I didn’t care. I wasn’t mad, I just turned it off half way through the show. It now isn’t even worth being interesting background noise. It’s a really bad show. However, seeing you guys react to it makes my day. Keep up the good work man!
@@jakespacepiratee3740 I agree. Somewhat but still not enough for me to watch it. I have nothing but love everyone involved, but I can’t get into it. 😔
That was my reaction when the show was first announced. I just went "eh" and carried on with my life. Still can't quite believe that people are still banging on about it. I get why HiddenXperia is, he needs Halo content for his Halo channel, but from any regular non-RU-vidr it's bizarre. Are you all truly that hooked and addicted to IPs and social media outrage? Can you not see that when something is shit you stop engaging with it? Not stay and hope against hope that it's gonna get better? Good lord...
It sounds like the new director is steadily changing course of the show rather than doing a sharp change, to prevent confusion of those who have not played the games and read the books.
Yeah this episode feels like they're clearing up the last of the BS from last season and onto the new direction. I'm OK with that. Would have been OK with all that happening in the first episode.
@@TheSenatorSamI disagree. The people who have played the games and read the books have those mediums to experience the show. For them, those were their introduction. Adapting Halo into a tv show is literally a way to introduce Halo to a new audience who wouldn’t or couldn’t have experienced it before
Ive been a fan since halo 1 helped me repair my relationship with my dad, and i have thoroughly enjoyed both seasons. I went in with the expectation that the show was going to be different and i haven't been disappointed yet
Why do I get the feeling from after reading your comment that you sound a lot like Butter’s from South Park. After he went to see Indiana Jones the crystal skull while everybody saw Indiana Jones getting raped he was the only one that didn’t seem to pay attention adding on that he thought the movie was pretty good.
I'm glad the show is actually making the Covenant actually seem like a threat. I hear the next episode is supposed to be exactly what we want, but we'll see. Seriously, a lot of fans would easily let some of the story problems slide if the show gave just a single episode that was just Spartans and Marines fighting Covenant. Marines giving their banter, Spartans working together, Grunts showing their flamboyant attitudes, Elites trying to keep the Grunts in line. No Rubble, no UNSC corruption. Just give them some MacGuffin that they have to get through hordes of Covenant to retrieve. It would solve so much of the backlash.
What a wasted storyline. She was all hyped about learning that she is to be the protector of Madrigal at the end of Season 1, then at the start of Season 2, it's just noted in passing that Madrigal was glassed. Sounds like they really wanted to just throw that storyline away, but they were forced to keep Kwan's character.
That's what I think, her combat abilities are not a problem for me cause she must have been trained at some point by the mystics on Madrigal or by Soren, it's the entire storyline that's so fucking boring and out of place, Sorens too
@@UndeadReikon she did, she was back on her home planet where she joined witches (cause you know halo has these) and they had a Monitor that came out of a well. But the planet was mentionned as glassed so guess we’ll have some flashback about that or boring dialogue explaination, anyway. Already calling it she is going to become either the pirate queen or the spartan 4 commander and either way I just wish they glass her ass Reach style before any of that happens
It would be very interesting to see a graph of people like halo that watched season 1amd are also watching season 2. What’s the drop rate of the actual fans? I love HiddenX, but I’m not watching season 2.
I will at most watch 30 second clips of cool visuals but ain't no way I'm watching this season at all. Shit I stopped watching season 1 after episode 2
whats weird is there are small channels giving positive reviews and if you leave a comment questioning any of the bad writing or inconsistencies they attack you and don't counter any of your arguments.
I know this won’t happen for a long time, but I have a dream to make an cinematic adaptation of the Forerunner Trilogy. I consider it Halos LOTR Story, and it won’t be a non-canon spinoff in the Silver Timeline, it will be in what I call the *“Platinum Timeline”* also known as the *Canon Timeline.* my only worry is that general audiences might not be interested in a series of Halo movies without Master Chief, which disappoints me as Halo is so much bigger than just John. I’d also probably have to add a bunch of action scenes as audiences might also get bored during the long conversation scenes. I’d explain the minor differences between the books and the movies as the memories of 343 Guilty Spark being slightly inaccurate to his preferred narrative, like Johnny Silverhands memories in Cyberpunk 2077
@@kylerbryant3772 well yes of course it wouldn’t be exactly the same, that’s the nature of all book adaptations. But I do want to be very faithful to the source material so it can feel like it fits in canon. I’d probably have to add some action scenes as that is what audiences would like and expect when it comes to Halo. I’d imagine it would start on the final battle of Charum-Hakkor and the end of the Human Empire, then a time jump forward to Bornestellar.

“ You are on of our treasured most instruments, long have you lead your fleet with honor and distinction, but your inability.. to safeguard Halo.. was a colossal failure. “ “ Nay! It was Heresy!
The whole “it’s a soft reboot” was a straight up lie to get us to watch again. Nothings changed. It’s still focused on random characters and plot lines with Spartans that don’t act like Spartans.
I’ve just started listening to audio telling of Halo the flood and I‘m really enjoy it it’s interesting getting more story from Halo 1 then after that I’ll start first strike
I really think as we get closer to the fall of reach and the Pillar of Autumn jumping out the writers are trying to get closer to the lore that most know and thats from Halo CE. If thats the case then I’m all here for it. Episode 3 was surprisingly very well written.
I enjoyed this episode more than the entirety of Halo 5's story. And I covered that game for a LIVING. The Alzheimer's hit home. What an emotional format of storytelling I did not expect.
@@antonycharnock2993yeah but then saying he only cared about moving up kinda conflicts with him being a caring person as he was shown. But still it makes him complex which I like.
The rubble stuff actually wasn't bad this episode, clearly they're dropping it because they're all heading away to reach potentially. As for chief they're clearly trying to build his character to be more of what he's known for in the games, he's evolving more to that with each episode I think and in the armour he appears to actually behave like chief much more.
At this point, idc that kwan has unexplainable skills. What matters is that they've changed her character. Hopefully its for the better, but well have to see
Did I miss any reference to Chief considering Reach his home? Also does it bother anyone else that there is a severe lack of space ships( naval power) in this show?
Allow me to explain your frustration and confusion with this series. You expect this show's, or any other show's, writing to be logical and rules-based. Current TV/streaming series writers don't care about any of that--not just Halo, but any content mill streaming service show. Game of Thrones taught the current crop of scribes to write thematically, not logically. Consistency of character is less important than advancing the interplay of selected themes. For example, note the various types of object banging in this episode (finger tapping, door trying to close, knife tapping on rail, etc.) This is a clumsy implementation of the theme of the war drum, with the entire episode being a slow build up of war drums leading to the events of the ending. Note also who either starts the banging sound or hears the banging sound; Kwan performed the banging sound and killed the pirate crew, Perez heard (did not make) the banging sound and is being chased by war, and Pablo Chief heard (did not make) the banging sound and is being chased by ONI soldiers. I guarantee the entire writing team thought this was incredible and they were writing really good stuff, because this is how they think and how they approach their work. You, and most others, want logically built up plots with rewarding payoffs; the writers want thematic plots that contrast different characters in different situations to explore said themes. The former is good for the viewers; the latter is good for the writers' careers. Guess which matters more. Go into episodes pretending that you're watching the distant future of the Game of Thrones universe. It'll hurt less and make more sense.
I'm literally thinking that Quan and all the mystic shamans have something to do with forerunners, like Quan is gonna be one of the humans that have a forerunner stored inside them. It's unfortunate but I think it's where they are going with it. Reclaimers or something
Which is a bunch of BS if that happens. Because when Bungie made Halo they admitted themselves how very detailed the entire story is and how all humans are reclaimers literally as an entire species reclaiming the mantle
@@Wuunderboy you're absolutely right but they don't seem to wanna take the established lore without twisting it all around to make the first season make sense. But I agree, Bungie laid this all out for them and they still got it wrong somehow.
@flaw117 Bungie even made the 3 original books the fall of reach, first strike and the flood to go even deeper in case you played the games but wanted to know more. These people being hired to make Halo today are purposely being chosen under the qualification of "if they hate halo."
Can we talk about the fact that there have now been two episodes featuring Parangosky doing shady stuff and xperia hasnt talked about it at all? Does Xperia secretly work for ONI?
Why does it impress you that they’re using hand signals? They have personal in helmet coms. These are talked about all the time in the books. Halo fans are becoming the new Star Wars fan, just making endless excuses to try to like a show that is very obviously bad and not researched.
I love kwan whole story line it’s peak cinema. She deserves her own show! She should be first in like to be a spartan 4. Her power buff was so needed. She is the diversity the show needs! She should even take the chiefs armor and just focus on her story arc! She is the STAR
Im pretty sure the showrunner/writers are trying to reboot or refresh kwans character and start as new as they can. Wiped her planet and the stupid magic well that leads to halo or something so now she has no purpose (which in an ideal world would be the end of her character) & now they see it as an opportunity to rewrite her story instead of cutting out completely. Just hoping they get her to reach or something and get her killed off in some big battle. Fingers crossed by end of season they trim the filler cast ready for halo
I grew up with Halo and have always loved it, but man, it's so sad how jaded I've become. I haven't played in over a year, and I only ever watched the first episode of the first season. It was just so terrible, it was the final straw for me. it makes me almost depressed thinking about how a bunch of soulless executives have taken my favorite franchise and made me lose interest in it completely. I don't even watch videos about Halo anymore, this sucks so much.
Bummer, so you lost interest in all of Halo because you watched 1 episode of Halo and didn't like it? That's a pretty dumb reason. There are some parts of the show I disliked, but that doesn't make me lose complete interest in Halo. I love Halo and will never lose interest in it since it's pretty much a pinnacle of my childhood. Hope you find something that'll gain your interest, dude
@@noob7220 The 1 episode was the final straw, going back to my comment I literally said that word for word, so idk, maybe read the whole comment next time?
As someone who skipped season 1, and just went straight into season 2 I couldn’t be more impressed with what they achieved! Of course it’s too late for a vast majority of people to do what I did, but going into it blind as basically a clean slate makes the show far more compelling. Naturally I started watching knowing that in all essence this is an alternate version of the story compared to the game, but the bones of halo are there. Not knowing what came before leaves so many interesting questions that frankly don’t need to be answered, and are better left unanswered! The only comparable scenario is the fact that I didn’t watch the first two seasons of Picard, and just went straight into season 3 (which much like this show had different showrunners who actually respected the history of the franchise that came before). Of course with Picard there were some continuity problems that those directors, producers, and writers were saddled with which they had to work around, but good writers like the ones who are currently working this season of Halo can find ways to enhance the story regardless of the previous seasons short comings. Naturally now that Steven Spielberg is working on the show makes it leaps and bounds better than it was! How the hell they got him to do this I have no clue, but I couldn’t be happier as his fingerprints are all over the resurrection of this once waste of a show. If you’ve read this far please give this season a chance; if it fails it’s highly unlikely a big studio will ever touch the Halo franchise again, and there are so many worthwhile stories to be told… so many alternate takes (like this season) that deserve a chance to flesh out their story. Speaking as an unbiased Halo fan of 20 years whose life was changed by this franchise I’m so glad that we have a chance to see a new take on the story we all know and love!
Master Chief: "I'm gonna go rogue and disobey orders. The UNSC will accuse me of treason and ONI will try to have me arrested". Silver Team: "Noooo! How could you?!" Blue Time: "Whoooo! Let's fucking go!"
The only reason to watch the show is to get answers as to see where "blue team" ends up during the fall of reach, and how chief ends up on the Pillar of autumn. The rest feels like nails on the board. One thing i want to see is maybe a side jig introducing noble 6 be for he joins noble team. All they need to do is fill in the missing gaps!
Ill never understand why they didnt keep chief always in the armor and use the original voice actors voice, just get a super tal jacked guy to play him in the armor and then dub it would be so much better, didnt they do the exact same thing for Vader anyway? So its been succesfully down before.
Ngl going into this season with the mindset that it can't be worse than S1 is massively helping me enjoy the new season so far. I just have to constantly remind myself that it's not canon, Chief is allowed to remove his helmet, and that they are attempting to recover from S1. Alsp, Pablo is 45 and that is insane to me.
Spartans using hand signals is the dumbest thing ever. It may look cool, but they have radios. In a vacuum sealed chunk of titanium. The unly reason sounds get out is because of an intercom
the "everyone thinks they're NUTS!" trope is so damn frustrating. it always delays the inevitable (actual progression of the story) and spawns a ton of useless filler. i feel like it was a good start followed by 45 mins of b plot idc about and everyone ignoring the main character. i don't think it needs to be so convoluted. good intro build up -> cobalt got smoked -> scary aliens are here reveal would've been so much more satisfying, and imo far more impactful than the final scene. still a ton of room to work in ONI foreknowledge + minor character development. i thought it was a very tedious watch.
So Ackerson is strongly following the arc of Operation: RED FLAG for Reach in his convo with Keyes. If we’re gonna sit through lots of dialogue before the battle for Reach, then at least make it intriguing, engaging, gut-wrenching considerations about using Reach for Red Flag like the actual lore. That would evoke emotion from the viewers and humanize the characters way more than the Spartan IIs acting like impulsive teenagers who defy their commander.
2:51, I will say, having their 'visors' just be covered in shadow, and when the light is shone on them, they're just pitch black, is a really damn cool visual. It works especially well as a parallel / mirror to the golden / orange visors of the Spartans. The idea is lost a little because Silver Team already have that black / grey military aesthetic, but still. It's nice.
Its absolute torture for me to see Master Chief being this emotional garbage lacking selfcontrol and where everyone doubts him and has 0 loyalty from his team and he even lies to them. Thats complete opposite what Master Chief is and his relationship with his team.
Correction:: Ackerson does NOT want to evac Reach. He wants to secretly move valuable assets (people and property) off the planet without the Covenant knowing they know they are on Reach. He seems to have zero concern for the people on Reach he doesn't consider valuable in this effort. Of course, conveniently, he is one of the valued assets.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they're gonna make Qwan into a Spartan candidate at this point lmao.. Just the vibes I'm getting from whatever her characters subplot even is and I really hope that isn't the case lol.
Kwan is an expert at parkour. And she is the greatest martial artist that has ever existed. She also has magic powers in that cave where she was doing magical cave art. Also, why didn't that bad women shoot them with the gun? How did kwan manage to stab the bad women before she could pull the trigger of her gun?
