When considering hair transplant surgery, a patient should be well-informed about certain pre-conditions that have to be satisfied, since hair transplants are not the proper solution for every hair loss sufferer.
Patients that are good candidates for hair transplants are in many cases also suitable for FUE surgery, once they have satisfied the following requirements;
• Good Health: if you are currently experiencing any kind of health problem, please notify Dr. Torgerson so that he can make the right decision for your health.
• Adequate Donor Density: due to the limited amount of hair that can be used for transplants taken from the back and sides of the scalp, the donor area density & extent are of vital importance.
• Proper Age: hair transplants should be avoided in very young ages. Men & women at a young age are advised to follow a hair loss treatment in order to combat hair loss and also invigorate & strengthen their hair. (Such as Propecia or Rogaine) Hair transplantation can become a future option, at the right timing and under the proper indications.
• Stabilized Hair Loss: men who have suffered many years from hair loss and now they have ended up with a certain hair loss pattern
• Male & Female Pattern Baldness: if a man is dealing with Androgenetic Alopecia (Male Pattern Baldness) or a woman with Female Pattern Baldness they are potential candidates (in contrast to cases of Diffuse Hair Loss or Alopecia Areata-when the hair falls out in round patches, also see Glossary for more information)
• Scar Revision: scars on the scalp (due to trauma, accidents, burns, etc.) could be possibly covered & repaired through FUE
• Proper Hair Type & Texture: if your hair type is normal or thick and your texture straight or slightly curly you are an ideal candidate for FUE
• Norwood Class of 7 or less (Norwood Scale): extended balding areas are difficult to be covered through FUE due to the limited donor area.
