FULL STUDIO CITYPOP VERSION of Good Luck, Babe! IS OUT NOW!! Link in the description!! 💖 I got a live band for it and everything, you'll love it!! (pls go listen to that one instead it’s so much better 😭)
Did i just spend an hour painstakingly copying the hiragana into a translator so I could see the differences in the lyrics... Yes, yes I did. The "自分のせいでしよう" at the end means "it's your own fault", right? That just hits different.
@@RyanRobertJ “Ganbatte” (gan-bah-teh) means “good luck” fits the syllable beat of saying “good luck, babe” which is the key phrase of the song! Simple enough but an effective transliteration.
I’m obsessed with how you’ve communicated the English meanings in a way that feels so so natural to an 80s Japanese-sounding song while being so faithful to the original Idk why I expected ‘good luck babe’ to be in English while the rest was translated to Japanese, but when がんばって appeared I was like ahhhh ofc ofc. It sounds smoother to a Japanese/Japanese-speaking listener, while keeping within the original’s emphasis of beat using the ‘guh/gah’ sound . Just . awesome, I love good translation, linguistics and lyricism 🗣️🗣️
I don't mean to be rude, but I respectfully disagree. It doesn't sound smooth, and it doesn't make much sense, because on its own ganbatte doesn't convey the sarcasm that makes the phrase work in the original song. That's just not how Japanese works, and the same can be said for the rest of the song, it's definitely not how Japanese lyrics would be written naturally. I respect the effort though.
@@ofishallydone I'm not really sure what you're getting at. I just shared my opinion because I disagreed with some of the things said. If it's not a bother could you clarify what I'm doing wrong?
@@desuno2609well, whatever u say bro 🤷 I’m ultimately not a native speaker, barely N3 fluent . I just found it rly clever to use ‘がんばって’ given the lack of options. ‘Do your best’ in place of ‘good luck’ is a cultural difference I forget sometimes so it was a pleasant surprise here lol Thank u for the insight tho 🫡 I’m always learning, so I’ll look into how fully-native speakers translate the song first b4 saying anything in future edit: just came back from the official Warner Brothers Japan translation . I think I take back everything I just wrote bc guess whose chorus translates to 頑張って 😶🌫️
My Japanese isn’t the best (had to use a dictionary a lot), but here you go: it’s fine, so/ the one who doesn’t believe the truth is you/ made a fool (of me)/ why did you make me feel that way?/ I want to go out with you but/ you won’t give me a confession/ actually, you want to keep the distance but/ 100 men in bars/ even if you kiss you can’t escape/ (combined translates to: you can’t escape even if you kiss 100 men in bars) even if you make new excuses/ you can’t stop those feelings/ good luck!/ well, good luck!/ unless you stop the world it’ll still continue/ good luck!/ well, good luck!/ unless you stop the world it’ll still continue/ anyhow, it’s okay/ it doesn’t matter when you flirt/ (or ‘the times you flirt have nothing to do with me’) miserable life if (we/I) keep (our/my) distance (I) might be able to breathe/ (wasn’t sure who the lyrics were referring to) even though I thought it was love/ A real girlfriend/ doesn’t run away from dating/ 100 men in bars/ even if you kiss you can’t escape/ even if you make new excuses/ you can’t stop those feelings/ good luck!/ well, good luck!/ unless you stop the world it’ll still continue/ good luck!/ well, good luck!/ unless you stop the world it’ll still continue/ next to him/ if you wake then cry/ not even a dog will eat this marital quarrel/ (a saying that means ‘one should not get involved in a marital quarrel’, so they’re saying she won’t get involved) the me from however many years ago/ if you remember her/ your regret is your own fault/ I don’t want to say it, but it’s your own fault, isn’t it?/ I don’t want to say it, but it’s your own fault/ 100 men in bars/ even if you kiss you can’t escape/ even if you make new excuses/ you can’t stop those feelings/ good luck!/ well, good luck!/ unless you stop the world it’ll still continue/ as you can see, some things got cut out because they take longer to say in Japanese, and Japanese has a very different sentence structure, so some sentences sound odd in English when separated between two lines. I didn’t need to translate as literally as I did, but I wanted you to know what the words really meant as much as possible.

@@lalovegiselle lol no dumbass it's not just bc it's japanese. i know ure trying to be edgy and all but you'd have to never have listened to ado to deny that this vocal tone and style isn't similar to ado AT ALL
This actually made me burst into tears, which is rare for me when it comes to this sort of upbeat sounding pop style… the sheer emotion in the way you delivered these vocals just sent the message straight to my soul - I really felt the lyrics even though I have yet to learn Japanese. 500/10, absolutely beautiful.
tried my best to translate it: It's okay You are the one who doesn't believe in the truth I made a fool of myself Why did you make me feel that way? I want to date But you won't make me blush Actually, I want to keep my distance 100 guys in bars I can't run away even if I kiss you Even if I make a new excuse That feeling won't stop Keep at it Well, Good luck If the world doesn't stop, it will continue Keep at it Well, Good luck If the world doesn't stop, it will continue Anyway... Okay It doesn't matter when we flirt Miserable life If we keep our distance, maybe we can breathe Even if you think it's love Her true girlfriend I won't run away from dating 100 guys in bars I can't run away even if I kiss you Even if I make a new excuse That feeling won't stop Keep at it Well, Good luck If the world doesn't stop, it will continue Keep at it Well, Good luck If the world doesn't stop, it will continue Next to him If you wake up and cry Even the dog wont involve itself in this couple's fight Every year When you remember 'It's probably my fault that I regret it' I don't want to say it, but it's your own fault I don't want to say it but it's your own fault 100 guys in bars I can't run away even if I kiss you Even if I make a new excuse That feeling won't stop Keep at it Well, Good luck If the world doesn't stop, it will continue Keep at it Well, Good luck If the world doesn't stop, it will continue If the world doesn't stop, it will continue
@@imthebossmermaid3648 it's a saying "even dogs do not eat marital quarrels". Its came from dogs not being fussy about what they gobble down, but even they do not “eat” (or get involved in) fights of married couples. So in the song translation she just essentially says she won't get involved.
i love how you made the song lyrics all fit together with a good rhyme and rhythm! and how instead of translating everything literally and exactly, you rewrote some lines to be slightly different but still conveying the original song's messages
Eng translation by me (in like 20 mins sorry if it isn't perfect 😭) whatever, it's fine the one who doesn't believe the truth is you I was made the fool why did (you) make me feel that way? I wanna be with you but you won't admit you love me in truth you just wanna distance yourself but even if you kiss 100 boys in bars you can't run away even if you make a new excuse that feeling won't stop good luck! well, good luck! unless the world stops it'll continue on good luck! well, good luck! unless the world stops it'll continue on anyway... it's fine it doesn't matter when we're making out, right? what a miserable life maybe if I got some distance I could breathe even if you think it's love a real girlfriend wouldn't run from being together (chorus repeat) when you wake up next to him again and cry no one cares about a couple's quarrel when you think of me from all those years ago it's your own fault you have regrets, isn't it? I don't wanna say it but it's your own fault I don't wanna say it but it's your own~~ (chorus repeats) theres a couple typos in the japanese text while the romaji is correct the whole time just for ppl using google translate 🙏
