@@ernestbuckley8671 your so right. Pauls mix was good, but the fixed mix just felt so much more vulnerable and open by getting rid of the unwanted energy. It fit the mood and lyrics really well.

The "kick tick" is a revolution to me. I've been using it for a while since I've seen Ian Kirkpatrick's use of it, although he actually separates the transient from the low in the kick and rides that "smack/tick" higher in busier sections, but it all boils down to the same. It's quite similar to using a transient shaper BUT with more, or rather easier, control as to which bits have more of it or less of, AND leaving the lower frequencies out of it and hi-passing it as you wish
@rome8180
@rome8180 11 месяцев назад
How does Ian Kirkpatrick do it? Does he isolate the frequency of the transient? I really want to employ this trick now.

THIS WAS AMAZING!! Where can we find more "Fix my mix"(es)? This might be one of the best ways to get pros to teach mixing, as it is done on "Semi-pro" production and shows the build up from fully raw to processed (no steps missed)! Overly pre-mixed/processed tracks that end up barely getting touched 'cause they sound so good already *ie just moving faders* is my biggest issue with mix with the masters style videos; in the real world most mixes we're getting aren't from top of the line producers who know what they're doing mixing wise, and I sure as hell don't have an assistant yet! So thank you, and please more!!

a more detailed explanation on how the tracks are flowing into the back bus plus how much it is compressed would have been nice. did he use the same drum sub groups or individual tracks? what's the main difference on the back bus? more limiting / saturation?

I am bummed we didn't get to hear him go over the changes to the guitars. Getting the middle unclogged during the chorus and spreading out the stereo field is probably the biggest change in the entire fixed mix.
@tomawad
@tomawad Год назад
We didn't get to see his magic fix for shifting cymbal frequencies, either -He mentioned early on that he did something different than just subtractive EQ. I was assuming he was going to use a dynamic eq to solve those problems, but they seemed to skip over that...

So, what is the "magic" cymbal thing he did to deal with the shifting frequencies -He mentioned he had a trick that he did instead of just making static cuts... I assumed it was gonna be dynamic eq, but they seemed to skip that part...

For some reason "The Rear Buss" techniques(for those who worked on SSL like Chycki said, and I know Scheps uses this technique as well)I don't get! I need a graph or something on how to route things!!!! Any chance someone can do a video on that...cause the ones out there make absolutely no sense to my ADD brain! I just don't get The Rear Buss and how it's all routed! I guess the routing is really just flipping my brain into a WTH WAS THAT?
@J_Costa15
@J_Costa15 3 года назад
So every DAW should be able to do this but here’s basically how you’d do it: You would create a sub group that you’ll send everything to- not the master output of your DAW but a separate bus- and that will now be your “master bus”. Then from that sub group you will create a send to ANOTHER bus and that is where you do your parallel compression. So those 2 busses will each be going to your stereo output
@assshakerstudios549
@assshakerstudios549 3 года назад
@@J_Costa15 Great so I use (call it A Mix Bus) a Mix Bus that everything goes to. And I will usually have a compressor on it at about 2db of compression, maybe a tape sim on it, etc. So a rear bus will be to add another bus that sidechaines to the Mix Bus?
