Good Morning Vietnam | The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews #29 

My grandfather was a frogman and he loved this movie I miss watching this movie with him. I bought it for him for father's day or his birthday I was young so don't remember witch but I got it for him when it first came out on VHS

This is Robin Williams full-on funny with still the great wit and grit that would be "calmed down" somewhat in some of his later roles in the 90s and 2000's and so on. Not a family film, that is. This is the film that showcased his acting ability, followed a few years later 100 percent in Dead Poets Society. It's no wonder he was brought in and kicked ass as Sean in Good Will Hunting. There are so many great roles in between and after (such as Miss Doubtfire, etc.) but these (IMO) are the three best roles. He was always a good actor (just look at that one episode of Mork & Mindy when he befriends a robot at the museum....Seriously.), but these three roles showcased the best of what this genius was about: Living wholly through truth and understanding of fellow human with love and forgiveness. I forgot to mention The Fisher King as #4 (at least for now) in my list of fave's. Anyway....thanx for posting this. Take care.

You really should put that "Friend like me" tribute at the end as a separate video. I would watch that over and over again.

I got to meet him a few years before this came out in Cannes when the festival was going on. He was on the promenade and was the nicest guy in the world. The scene when he was talking to the guys in the trucks brought back memories. Except he wasn't acting.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its fantastic. Watching your video i had to buy the 25th anniversary blue ray.

While I make it no secret that I loathe this movie for it's fabrications, I felt that this was overall a great episode. I'm glad you pointed out the inaccurascies but were still able ot say why it was you liked the film. And of course, as a fan myself, the ending montage brought a happy tear to my eye. Great work here!

I guess I still don't understand the caution of making this film about Vietnam (with humour and/or drama) when MASH had been made for 11 years not soon before under the guise of the Korean war (Conflict).

Number 30 is going to be great, hopefully it's just in time for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice!
